  • Back whenever the horror guys actually knew what they were doing, 90% of it sux nowadays

  • The one person who dislikes is actually Chuck Norris. Because Chuck Norris doesn't read books, he tears them apart!

  • Epic ... dunno why, but it always sounds to me like Bikermice theme XD

  • Lost Highway was stupid, this movie rules!

  • seriously if i could get the tabs to this song my life would be complete so if theres...anyone...out there...who knows or could make tabs to this song...p-please...HELP ME!

  • This film is better than "Lost Highway".

  • You can just feel the Old Ones coming for you in the beat of the guitar riff and in the credits it works GREAT to the rhythm of the printing press for the book itself.

  • Haha. John Carpenter sounded like the new Metallica, bevor Metallica.

  • Do you read Sutter Cane?

  • great theme this movie creeped me out when i was young , carpenter with another quality tune and film

  • Hello, is there anyone here who knows where i could guitar tabs for this song?

  • In Mother Russia, Sutter Cane read you

  • I would like to know how to play this on guitar does anyone know how???

  • One Person spent too much Time in Hobb's End

  • Metallica unreleased track ;-)

  • 1 person read all of Sutter Cane's novels

  • Comment removed

  • Masterpiece.

  • Sounds like Metallica and AC/DC combined. Well, John Carpenter IS a big fan of both bands...

  • Epic music for epic film !

  • @Waruna1301 Do you read Sutter Cane?

  • I can hear!

  • @Coelacanth1938 i can SEE!

  • ok, explain to me how this song IS NOT a ripoff of Metallica's ENTER SANDMAN???!!!

  • @sandiismyname in the way that it doesn't sound like it?

Okay I'll grant you that some of the same instruments are used, but that's it.

  • @sandiismyname Well, I thought it sounded an awful lot like Don't Fear the Reaper and Gobiln's track Lesbo, from the film Tenebre, but I still love it in it's own right.

  • I LOVE this! Rock and Roll Apocalyptica!!!

  • Carpenter will always be THE king of horror and the offbeat genre picture. I mean fuck: Assault On Precinct 13, Halloween, The Fog, The Thing, Escape From New York, They Live, Big Trouble In Little China, Christine, Starman, In the Mouth of Madness, Prince of Darkness, Vampires......Either all are considered genuine classics or have a devout cult following. The man is a damn legend.

  • Best theme EVER.

  • Temazo!

  • This movIe ROCKS! CRITICS DON'T KNOW SHEEYIT....YEAH...SOME OF IT WAS CLICHE'D...BUT SAM NEILL WAS GREAT, AND CINEMATOGRAPHY WAS EXCELLENT..I FEEL BAD FOR CARPENTER..SUCH A GREAT DIRECTOR..SHAME HIS FILMS HAVE RELEASING PROBS....THIS FILM WAS ONE OF HIS BEST...I got the opportunity to visit the Escape from LA set, he took time out to talk ..was so nice and supportive of my career.. Rock on, John Trent!

  • 1 dislike?... Trent is that you?

  • Did i ever tell my favrite color is Blue?

  • This may be inspired by Enter Sandman.

  • @Delorian82 Or Don't Fear the Reaper.

  • looks like 1 person is in the ass of madness

  • I remember seeing the movie for the first time and I found this rock & roll theme so strange for a horror movie...

  • I Love the Movie.. It's so scary :o

  • The person who disliked this video doesn't read Sutter Cane.

  • This is one of my prefer horror music theme

    Down my Wikingo's List...

    1) PROFONDO ROSSO music by GOBLIN

    2) CANDYMAN music by PHILIP GLASS

    3) IN THE MOUTH OF MADNESS music by JIM LANG & JOHN CARPENTER

    4) INFERNO music by KEITH EMERSON

    5) E TU VIVRAI NEL TERRORE L'ALDILA'/THE BEYOUND music by FABIO FRIZZI

    What do you think????

    Wik

  • mmmh rember me don't fear the reaper....

    ....i'm joking....

  • YEAY!

  • Somebody knows the guitar tabs of this song?

  • one person has a free ticket to ride with madness.

  • rawrerewsrg!!!!!!!

  • "Now Tell me, "Do you read Sutter Cane?"

He didn't say 'now tell me'.

  • First thought when I heared this piece was "hey, hasn't metallica done this yet?"

    Good rockin' music though.

  • lived a good book today?

  • Face-Melting Guitar....Dave Davies did something better that Kinks' "You Really Got Me"...!

  • Along with "The thing" this are the best movies ever made by Carpenter.

  • @foreverland100 I agree, but we musn't forget Halloween, Escape From New York and Big Trouble in Little China though.

  • @TheAltair4 No I don't, "Big Trouble in Little China" is one of my favourite movies but for sentimental reasons. In terms of cinematic value "The thing" and "In the mounth of madness" are the most acomplised works of Carpenter.

  • @foreverland100 I'm certainly with you on that. The Thing and Mouth of Madness are my personal favorites as well.

  • @TheAltair4

It is a fantastic movie, quite underrated but a brilliant work of horror-fantasy inspired by Lovecraft. Saw it in theaters at 13 and loved it, Carpenter has been one of my faves.

  • @Johnlindsey289 I loved it from the humid horrible cloudy-skied apocalyptic day I saw it's limited London release in 1995. After leaving the theatre, I had terrible headaches and an interest in H.P. Lovecraft over my academic or career interests. Depression and madness really set in. Blue really was, is and will be my favourite colour.

  • A true homage to Lovecraft. Or the movie is at least. The song is just pure awesome.

  • One user disliked this - the 'old ones' will be paying them a visit, I'm sure.

  • Me and Sutter Cane have a lot in common.... We both like the color blue <3

  • I may upload the rest of the OST from my CD that got scratched-up by some mad people LOL

Did you know that Dave Davies of The Kinks partly did this track. It rocks!

  • At 3:30 it reminds me of the Starcraft music.

  • a greek mc called Detro has maden an LP called mouth of madness

  • Is there any way download this for my iPod or something?

  • Love his music. Great composer :-)

  • @bum4862 Did you know that this track is similiar to Goblin's music for the Dario Argento movie, Tenebrae?

  • @wandererlain I don´t know the movie. However, I found it on Youtube and yes, it is similar. I think this composition is not as good as Halloween Prince of Darkness or They Live theme.

  • Yes I agree, the beginning shares similar tune to Dario Argento's Tenebrae, the track Lesbos. The reason for this I'm sure is even noted by John Carpenter that Argento's films have absolutely contributed to his work. I imagine he loved the tune and reworked it, i love this track!

  • @FilmPropsInc I love it, too. You even find a similiar riff in Blue Oyster Cult's Don't Fear the Reaper.

  • Great theme for a great and truly underrated movie.

  • This would be a great walk-in song for a relief pitcher.

  • @CrozetBob Or a wrestler. Named Sutter Cane.

  • "in the mouth of madness, down in the darkness, im demon speeding , no more tomorrow, down in a hollow" -"demon speeding" by rob zombie. btw Any body know if this movie in vid was really worth watching?

  • Metallica's "Enter Sandman" seems far less impressive now.

  • @gimpyguitarist if you were impressed by enter sandman you have very low guitar standards buddy

  • @gimpyguitarist at 0:20 I recalled about this song. It's like 4 notes from the intro or something very familiar just before the fast guitar playing at 0:24

  • @gimpyguitarist Lol, I love MetallicA though.

  • @gimpyguitarist

This theme sounds like "John Carpenter and Dave Mustaine jamming"...back when Mustaine was still a badass and not some whining christian...

  • @RealKull a whining christian? Mustaine? Yeah...sure.

  • john carpenter is a kick ass composer and song writer and soundtrack composer, etc.

  • Kick ass song! :D

  • I love this movie! Thumbs up.

  • I liked the movie :) Most horror films have nothing interesting, but this was nice.

However the church where SC lives is not Byzantine. It is clearly northern slavic.

  • one of the best theme songs ever

  • this song rocks

  • who is the 1 dumbshit who voted down on this? the movie and music are amazingly awesome! john carpenter, sam neil, lovecraftian themes, how can you go wrong? and the music omg...

  • @bearthepoet26 Well said!

  • @bearthepoet26 a representative of all the fucking critics who hate the master of horror! >:(

  • best song

  • I just saw the movie - whoa!!!! And this track here, I really like it.

  • \m/

  • Das lied ist genau so geil wie der film.....guter alter rock...und sam neill ist einer meiner lieblingsschauspieler!!

  • john carpenter macht zu allen seinen movies die soundtracks selbst.

bester ost (big trouble in little china),kurt russell.

  • I just watched the films commentary.

    Hell, I love this theme!

  • This is actually John Carpenter playing the guitar.

  • cool theme

  • one of the best films around! easily on my top 10 list. It's so Lovecraftian.

say, where can I find this theme in mp3 - I've been looking forever

  • see my response to philmental

  • Does anyone know where i can download this, ive tried limewire/frostwire etc but it just fails

  • jusr use the free "youtube mp3 dowloader", its a site where you put in the page URL and it tears the mp3 from the video and lets you downlaod it, i use it all the time! ;D

  • It's also safe; I have dead basic anti-virus software, so I should know.

  • Best. Theme. Ever.

  • Indeed. I've really come to dig what Carpenter's music adds to his movies.

"The world's ending. Let's rock out."

  • @StridentLobster "The world's ending. Let's rock out."

So true about this film. It adds so much to the horror of the final scene

  • @wandererlain I **cking love Carpenter's "Apocalypse-triology"

  • @ACruelPicture Hell, yes!

  • If anyone has this on CD, does it say on the liner notes, if there are any, which instruments were used?

John Carpenter usually uses synths, etc, but the rhythm lead on this sounds too 'real'.?

  • Hi Mark, the guitars sound real because they actually are. Dave Davies from The Kinks collaborated with Carpenter on the score, as well as playing guitar on it.

  • "Did I ever tell you my favorite color is blue?"

  • i got this movie after seeing it a few weeks back..honestly the best movie i've seen in years..and that music kicks ass..great upload!

  • ye great movie inspired by Lovercraft writting but dont forget DAGON by Stuart Gordon

  • Best Cthulhu movie ever :D

Great opening track. Remember when horror movies had memorable themes?

  • fucking great theme tune, a proper rock classic imo

  • Now Tell me, "Do you read Sutter Cane?

  • @juggalojeff what did you mean by this question?

  • @LucaTurilli89

Is that sarcasm? It's from the movie...

  • @juggalojeff I know but what is the problem buying popcorns? I don't get it :D. Explain to me why did you asked why he buyed them?

  • great movie, the music is fantastic, i love it , bellissimo film e musica fantastica

  • Great movie, great soundtrack. I remember this when it came out, Carpenters best. Brill !!!

  • Sounds like a mix between message in a bottle and enter sandman...

  • ahah..i thought the same

  • WTB a guitar pro tab for this song :(

  • jim lang plays the guitar

  • love the theme music! Love the movie!

    my favourite cult movie!

  • This sounds like 92-96 era Megadeth.

  • I just watched this movie and I liked it very much. I love this kind of horror movies (true classics) without too serious story. It must have good acting, music, pictures but deeper emotions and stories are reserved for horror books, this is how I regard books and movies !

    Excellent music ! Thanks :)

  • In my opinion John Carpenter doesnt scare you with the movie itself but with what your thinking of while your watching the movie :P

  • true true...You know , same thing with horror games for example (it's based on story also, music is very important but graphic have nothing to do!). If we look at the ending and what happened to John, we got really scary thoughts - and that's great ;)

  • What an excellent movie! Superb acting, a haunting story, a classic, unsettling atmosphere. This is a true horror film.

It's too bad not many movies today can live to these standards.

Thanks for posting this theme song. :)

  • Thats because John Carpenter is a one of a kind. His style of making movies is his own.

  • this rocks!

  • one of the best movies ever!

    pure classic and many meanings.

  • An under-rated classic as well. Most people don't even understand that it serves as social commentary with the premise of people turning into monsters from reading books.

  • this movie was truly a well made work of art

  • The final issue is the heavy metal group Circus Maximus.

  • This movie is a big terror classic, the history is amazing, John Carpeter Rules,

  • I Love that movie, and all the movies of John Carpenter, and the Soundtrack is Awesome !

  • Great Sam Neil. Great movie. Great soundtrack!!!

  • Sutter Cane

  • Yes Spike9904 well put. I'm a bit shocked how many people actually think this movie is pathetic or unlogical. In my opinion it's a true horror classic.

  • Godamn he beats the living shit of the gitarr...

    I love it !!!!!!

  • ffs got the film cant find the song any1 help me out?

    id be eternaly grateful

  • This IS reality

  • View this movie with the knowledge of memes (memetics), symbology, information theory, game theory, and ancestor theory - and it becomes a far more frightening film than it already is.

John Carpenter himself once remarked that he used campiness to veil the true profundity of this film, to hide its real horrors behind veils of cartoonish allusions,..

I watch this every new year, about the first week of January - and it just keeps becoming more and more scary, and the metaphors more real,..

  • How so, just out of curiosity?

  • well, the metaphors become "more real" if your mind convinces yourself that they are...

  • Where can I download this?

  • E-MULE

  • I could swear John Carpenter got into movie making just so he could write the soundtrack too! :P

  • great tune

  • Carpenter INVENTED horror

  • He is the modern master of horror.

  • One of the most under rated and under appreciated horror movies ever!

  • I love this film Ive seen it o many times lol. "do you read sutter cain"

  • Carpenter is the best !

  • Yes,it does sound like Metallica at the begining. But i can`t find this song anywhere.Great movie.

  • the drums at the start sound like metalica enter sandman!

  • this movie is off yhe hook 4 real and eye did read it and he wont let me out!!! 318 2cs

  • This theme is the best, heavy metal music is the best. But who is this?

  • carpenter wrote and performed it himself, probably with his friends

  • What band plays this tune?

  • I really like this song. Carpenter's movies had some of the best music. I think this particular track was played over video of a book being published.

  • X-cellent !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Awesome movie. Awesome theme.

  • +1 Carpenter is king.
