@LeGiiTuhMate :) Not quite, though it felt like it at times. Actual built time was approx 5 months but I was able to spend more time than normal as I was 'between jobs' at the time :)
What colors did you use for the deck? I'm working on a 1:400 musashi (motorized but the kit's old and the decks are 1/4" wider than the hull so they have to be wedged into place, making a removable [POP goes the superstructure about five feet in the air] deck unfeasible) and I used almond for the deck (really nice) but I'm interested in weathering it a little so I'm curious as to which collors you used!
@TheShipyardModeler The decks were sprayed in Tamiya grey (forget the actual shade number) and then planked with strips of real wood - very thin (maple I think) veneer that I had left over from a wooden model of the Endeavour I made. I think you can pick the strips up fairly easily from any well-stocked model shop. The planks were simply stuck to the deck with PVA glue and trimmed and shaped and given a light brushing over with some fine black pastel dust to highlight the joins.
i am now working on the revell bismarck but how did you painted the waterline on the back of the ship? i use airbrush and tape the parts of but it is hard at the back...
@xVoltage21 Much the same way you're trying - masking tape and (in my case a can of aerosol spray paint). Getting the waterline right around the model took more than one attempt, but not much more scientific than 'that looks about right'.
I have this same model on the shelf.I had always wanted to do the Nichimo.I can see it right now as I type.It took months for me to build....and mine doesn't look half as good as yours here! Fantastic job sir!
i've seen one of these when I was in Japan but it was mad expensive, I settled for a 1/350 scale from tamiya which i'm currently converting to r/c. that's a nice looking ship btw, great job on it.
@pleomax420 The kit's by a company called Nichimo - try ebay or googling model shops and see what comes up. I had this one shipped to the UK from Hong Kong.
@pwnedunoob890 I doubt it. I bet America would make The Japanese scrap it after the war. The yamato is cool. But the Iowas are going to last for a long time.
The inclination triple time of the bridge, the chimney, and mast is recognized as a new design of the ship.
The purpose of this is to lower the center of gravity of the ship.
In the first main armament tower, the second main armament tower, and the first sub-turret, it became a smart design like the fast backing type a rising front deck as it was diagonal since the bridge by the lowered thing.
i really want to buy boat and do this. btu i cant find any events to go to. or even any sellers. of whole boats, i dont really wanna get parts from all these differrent places, i just wanna buy a boat all and all!
And mabey i think if i could go to one of theses things i could buy one from somebody. so does anybody know any public events in north carolina?
@spikemahoon very nice scale model sir! i suggest you try building a Tamiya 1/350 scale model too...its sure is bigger and has more details in it. i built one myself and i really had fun. although i haven't installed it's motors yet.. i just had it displayed in our home.
You need to divide it by (200*200*200) to get an accurate scale weight for a three-dimensional 1/200 scale model. Scale-accurate weight for this model would be 9 kilo's.
No mate, a scale model refers to its dimensions NOT its weight!! Yamato was made of metal and had all equipment (engines, boilers, armament, ammunition), but the model is made of plastic!
Common sense really!
I have loads of 1/72 scale aircraft. A B17 weighs around 15422 kg, but that does NOT mean that a model of it will weigh 15422kg divided by 72, i.e. 214kg!! Thats one heavy model aircraft!!
I was well aware of that. I was making a joke when I put the original comment. I just wanted to see how many people would catch on. So far you and fnglert are the only ones who past my little "test"
@martijntini no the displacement of the hull is not in scale. the length of the model depends on the length of the ship i.e a 1/200th scale destroyer that was 200 feet long in real life would be 1 foot long as a model
@martijntini no read above mate, it does NOT refer to its weight, only its dimensions.
After all its built from different materials for a start, ie plastic weighs a lot less than steel.
I have a 1/350 scale model of RMS Lusitania on a shelf in my house. Lusitania weighed around 32,000 tons, so by your logic my model should weigh 32,000 divided by 350, yes!! That comes to just over 91 tons mate!! My model is not that heavy, i assure you!!!
Indeed and too badly broken up to be worth the effort. There is a very impressive 1/10th scale replica of the Yamato in a Japanese museum - sorry I forget where - however.
It would be nice to have Yamato to be sitting in Kure Bay as a floating museum now...such a shame the IJN decided to sacrifice her on a pointless voyage.
I found it amusing :) Also you hit on one of the main reasons for the Yamato's demise - with the Japanese air force decimated at the time, she had little or no effective air cover and so the US's squadrons of bombers and torpedo planes had nothing but the Yamato's own AA to oppose them. Which just wasn't enough, as it turned out.
Wait it is missing 3 Armoured Type 96 25mm Triple guns. Ever since the Yamato was produced at the Kure Docks its blue prints had 12 Armoured Type 96 25mm Triple guns on eac side (Including the Crane section of the ship A.K.A. Back side also) You sure this is the Yamato because the Musashi had the exact same Armoured Type 96 25mm Triple gun (Musashi was armed with less Armour Type 96 25mm Triple guns on both sides of the ship.) emplacements as your model right there.

You're correct, it is a very nice kit. Too bad you couldn't show them the incredible quality 4:1 double-reduction, cadmium-plated gearbox with brass gears, spring-loaded torque couplings on each of the four propellers and main motor output, and separate mini-motor main gun and fire director slewing system..... Yep it's a gorgeous kit, and it will be no longer available as of 1/2009.
Hahas! Great to talk with fellow hobbyists! I just bought the Hornet Aircraft Carrier, Missouri and New Jersey Iowa Class! Getting my American Fleet ready to fight Japan! YEAH!
Thank you Barney. There's an awful lot of ballast in there to get her down to that level - about 6lb of mixed mortar in various bags that are then distributed thoughout her hull to keep her level and even. She weighs a lot!

Ok, even I know that doesnt sound right.
