I've always thought Red Ingle was the backbone of the early Spike Jones band. Apparently, he thought so too, and left the band when he didn't get the pay raise he wanted. He formed a similar band he called the Natural Seven and had a big hit with Timtayshun, a hillbilliy version of Temptation, with vocals by Red and Cinderella Q. Stump. Years later, he was a guest on Cinderella's TV show and they played it again. It's on youtube.
my grandmother isn't exactly adept at using the internet but i found this for her and seeing the smile on her face as all the memories came flooding back into that sweet, blue rinsed wrinkley head of hers was just amazing. thanks for thje upload. its made her day
My father used to play this record for me as a kid. I still find myself saying "who was it? he didn't say!" and chuckling to myself. Not many people get my reference, unfortunately.
Hello there, I'm glad to hear from you again. I am also glad for you tube. I recently got my computer and i'm amazed what i found so far. Its like i'm going back in time, a kinder and gentler time and i'm loving it, not to mention its making the winter go by a lot faster. Before i retired I wouldn't have had time to do this, now I have a lot of time on my hands and i'm really loving looking up these old treasures. Thanks for writing and take care
Hello again, and I did listen to cocktails for two. Believe it or not we had just about all of the Spike Jones 78's but Lord knows what happened to them t,hroughout the years. When I looked up this site I was surprised to see people here. Somehow I felt alone wanting to take a nostalgic trip down memory lane. LOL giving my age away for sure. Take care
My dad did too!! brings back so many memories. Thank God for these precious memories. And I just got done listening to Pink Floyd..LOL Music of all kinds is good for everyone!!!
I get to play this in my school band am I the one that sings.."CHLOEEEEEEE" "CHLOEEEEE" "someones callin" "no replyyyyyyyyy" "nightshades are fallin" lol and i play the oboe so its going to be interesting
This is just fabulous. I've been looking for this for months. I think this is funnier than "Cocktails for Two". What a great singer too and of course the jazz is great as always. Many thanks

@ishouldntbeyoutubing : Cinderella G. Stump, not 'Q' - and of course it was Jo Stafford.
As a kid, in the war years, I used to get a Spike Jones record every Christmas - 'Chloe' featuring Red 'Swamphead' Ingle was one of the great ones.

The great cartoon-maker for MGM, Tex Avery, borrowed the "You Don't Say" joke for one of his Screwy Squirrel cartoons.

Pure, unbridled insanity the likes of which have long since disappeared from the entertainment world. Spike Jones, you are sorely missed. :)

I think pink floyd used alot of elements from this song in their album 'the wall'.

My name is Chloe, and I always though Chloe was a gender neutral name because of this song, as I thought the voice of Chloe was a boy.
Also, my dad tells me I was named after this song.......
Yay? :P
