This sort of reinforces my opinion that pickups are the most important variable in electric guitar tone. Here you have a butcher block body with a bolt-on neck, and you're getting a killer tone--it runs counter to the gibson purists that talk about "deep neck tenons," and correct tonewoods.
@TheF86Sabre No, im pretty sure they were pissed because this was the second time Ibanez was making a “Gibson” without Gibson’s permission, which is against the law.
@PBANDSNOW Gibson guitars from the 70's are crap, that 5 piece of wood sandwich crap is not a Gibson, nor is the 3 piece neck that went with it. They only really started making Gibsons once they got rid of that crap!
@PBANDSNOW Why ask Page? He doesn't play guitars from the 70's I bet he wouldn't be caught playing pancakes! You should do a little more research on his guitars, they are from the late 50's.
@PBANDSNOW Jimmy's EDS-1275, the mahogany 6- and 12-string necks are outfitted with rosewood fingerboards. The body's period-correct mahogany is finished in a meticulously weathered dark cherry and done up with chrome hardware and strap locks, a period-correct 5-ply pickguard, four Page pickups, and two volume and tone control knobs. There is no pan cake in a solid body ! the 1275 is just a bigger SG, it may have 2 pieces of mahogany glued together, thats not pancake!
@PBANDSNOW You are the only one then, anyone "in the know" would not consider 70's les pauls as authentic proper les pauls, you like them great. As for them being heavier wtf they are heavy enough, my R'58 weighs 8.75 pounds, play that for 2hours you will see how heavy it is. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, however it doesn't take away the fact that 70's les pauls are not very desirable in the vintage market.
chances are that it had some john birch pickups in at some point. they are slightly bigger than a p-90 but smaller than a humbucker so it would explain the roughness around the pickups.
he did like to add his mark to guitars that he worked on
@motlencore89 That's probably the reason it's a "lawsuit" guitar.LOL! Likely a non-Gibson knockoff with their name illegally used on the headstock. Doesn't mean it's a bad guitar though, plenty of knock-offs are as good or better than the real thing. On this one, the bolt-on neck really bothers me, not correct for an LP. The pickup "cutout" for the neck pickup looks bad. No matter, it sounds pretty damn good. Lots of rotten looking guitars (even namebrand) are still great players.
beutiful sound i love my gold top i think its interesting to take the pick guard off i was thinking about doing that but does it leave lots of wholes in your guitar message me someone
I looking for similar guitar once owned has "IC" on headstock, band logo The Gremlins stencil on black tolex guitar case has gold lining. These guitar originally have chrome humbucker you can see pickup ring corner screws on this guitar top. Somebody put P90 and fuck up headstock fake logos, too bad.
sorry it mite be me but can't see what all the fuss is about, Lawsuit means a an attempt to forge or steel the same speck, this guitar is a mid prised copy the binding isn't carved to the end of the fret, the neck is a bolt on, the inlays are cheap plain plastic, the body was made of ply wood, the gibson deluxe did not have p 90s, its as far from a lawsuit as you can get. oh and by the way John Birch didn't engrave his name on guitars, He had a transfair he put on the truss rod cover.
@mrfishh this one is lower quality. they had lower quality vs higher qualit copys as well. but the high end copies were better than the gibsons, thats what the fuss is about. the les paul copies arent what got them *almost* sewed. it was the korina explorer copy that got them. it was exact in every way, but because they were a small company, they put way more time and quality into the guitars and they were better than the gibsons
@deathcore1239 Very nice to see some who knows their stuff! I have several Fujigen guitars and my Greco super real is probably the nicest guitar I have ever played! (including the three Gibson LP's I own). The Ibanez 'sly and family stone' issue is also a real corker!
There are a lot of people that put guitars down that have bolt on necks. I like bolt ons and set necks to me they sound just as good with bolt on necks.
Nice sound. I'm thinking of getting some Tonerider pickups. Are the Tonerider pickups on this guitar the "Vintage" set with Alnico II magnets, or the "Hot" set with Alnico V magnets? They sound very classic. Thanks.
Hey, did you buy this guitar from Rockbottom in Croydon?!?! I swear I remember this guitar - I have an identical CSL as well, and always loved the look of it..
I had one of these, its a CSL guitar. It had mini humbuckers just like yours, and the same long headstock and volute at the back. It was nice to look at but that was it no sustain and the usual 70s copy bolt on neck. Its ok but I'm glad those days are gone, better copies are made no than in the 70s - 80s.
I have almost the same guitar , but with white pick guard and chrome covered pickups. Mine is the Antoria (a sister company owned by Ibanez that distributed these primarily in the UK in the early 70s. they dont come up often in the US ,but I did manage to buy one from the ebay UK, and they shipped it here to the states. I have the original hard case , it is pretty cool, with gold velvet lining, and has a couple of cool vintage 70 stickers on the top of the case old coca cola sticker )
Where is a dealer that sells Ibenez les paul electric guitar's? i've been on ebay all day and tryin to find local dealers to no avail. Can anyone forward me a website or provide a dealer website? Thanks in advance.
I have had one of these, black with bolted neck and humbuckers for 30 years now. Have you tried looking between the pancake body and the top ? What should be a solid maple top is just air and a plywood constructoion like a boat. Mine is heavy though, and on yours i see why.Lots of glue for this pancake- construction. Mine has very little sustain.
you know that John Birch was a guy who built guitars??? nottingham UK i recon, he built SG's for Sabbath, Slade and the like back in the day.. and modded many other guitars too...he may have worked on that one you have????
Hello . I have A 1974 Gibson Les Paul Deluxe . The Word ``Deluxe`` is Inprinted on the badge above the nut , Not painted on the headstock . Are you sure this is an authentic 1975 . There are two way`s to know for sure . No.1 Check by the serial No. No.2 , The date should be imprinted beneath the pickup cavities .
Please get back on this as there are a lot of misconseptions on authentic items on the net .
it sounds very good, but I dont get it..how much money could Ibanez save by not making the guitar w/set neck..even the cheapest guitar companies now make their guitar set neck..oh well
i can tell jsut by lookign at it its a lawsuit copy. you can see where the head was sanded and the gibson waterslide being ptu over the ibanez name. also where the holes are drill to mount the pickguard are a wee bit off also o.o
Wat is pickups??
