The band was originally named Pantera's Metal Magic and consisted of Vinnie Paul Abbott on drums, Dimebag Darrell Abbott (called Diamond Darrell at that time) on guitar, Donnie Hart on vocals, Terry Glaze on guitar, and Tommy Bradford on bass.
Pantera does some of the best Sabbath covers I've ever heard. Electric Funeral and Planet Caravan are just as good, if not better than, the originals. They know how to take a song and add their own personal touch to it without taking anything away from the original. Not an easy feat to accomplish when doing covers. Long live Pantera and Sabbath!!
PANTERA RULES!!!! Phil sounds just like Ozzy on this!!!! Dimebag does a great job playing guitar on this great cover of this Black Sabbath Classic!!!!!
Is every one as excited as I am that Black Sabbath will be reunited for the first time in 33 years to record a new album and go on a world tour??!!!?!

Not bad. I agree with a lot of the comments about Phil's voice. It's too bad he didn't give it more range. Like deeper vocals to make it more grim. He also missed out on some nice places to scream, such as "pyre" at the end of the second verse, not to mention all the "electric funeral" parts at the end of the that middle section. Everything else was great. All in all it was a good Pantera song.
man this rocks u know you invented metal when someone can come along 20 some odd years later with a completely different tone and gear and such and it sounds just as good timeless stuff timeless
@xXThePhilosopherXx yeah, but in fairness its very hard to get close to ozzy and if he was trying to sound like ozzy he hit the nail on the fuckin head
@xXThePhilosopherXx he gave a much more aggressive voice to hole in the sky. this one they kept it close to the original, but dime added some heaviness, especially at the end.
It is a doom song, aggressive vocals would have ruined it. He is not angry, he is giving a doom filled warning for the future, it is morn full and serious not aggressive.
@xXThePhilosopherXx I think he did a good job with the song, but he just prolly didn't want to try to hard and make it sound that way. But, I love this version.
@Markoh2020 Musically, yes..but he was a super alcoholic. I wouldn't have started playing guitar if it wasn't for him, but that's the damn truth. Hell, look at Rex now, pancreatitis, surgery, and he still won't lay off of the bottle, so he's not in Down anymore. :/
@dime133 Seriously, booze and drugs are the biggest enemy of good singers, whether in metal or rock. Chris Cornell managed to kick off drugs and booze early in his career, which is why hes still singing like a beast and still has an awesome range. Phil Anselmo destroyed his vocals undoubtedly with the dope, smokes and booze. a little bit here and there is alright, but honestly speaking, the music should be enough, fuck drugs, doobie now and again is ok, but not at the expense of screwin ur vocals
@Acecard1984 what about (no more skin left) they are a good band or even (the marble head johnsons) they are a good band, or even (your next door neighbors are sunworshiping slaves) or (the anty spanner hand shakes). or (billly and the bollox) all good bands check them out

Phil alselmo talks about loving the dio/sabbath era and about Neon knight being the first metal song he performed on stage when he was 13, then why do a sabbath tribute with several songs of ozzy era?
it would be neat if dime threw in one his wicked solos .. but then again , it wouldn't suit the song , or else tony iommi would have done it long back .
@METALFREAK0101 It's on "Nativity In Black II: A Tribute To Black Sabbath" which was released in 2000 and features various artists performing Black Sabbath classics.

holy shit what a cover! i personally dont give a shit about the dislikes people leave on videos but i cant see no reason anyone should dislike this. it stays loyal to the original version while still adding some cool elements on the process.
