I'm planning on buying this phone unlocked from a retailer in China (I don't live in the US) which presumably uses this method to unlock the phone, it comes with android 2.1 Eclair, if I update to 2.2 Froyo will it break the unlock? and if so can I unlock it again? And if I install cyanogenmod 7.1 will it break the unlock too? and again if it's the case could I unlock it again?

have Galaxy S Fascinate (canadian Telus carrier).

updated firmware to 2.3.3. Driver is installed.

My vista workstation recognizes the Fascinate.

Problem is when I set the Facinate USB in debug mode,

the Samsung Kies does not recognize the android.

When I run the Generate Code batch file, it returns an error (failed to copy nv_data.bin to nv_data.bin. Permission denied)

The error message continues (Error: unable to find file nv_data.bin Could Not Find..) any suggestions

The unlock code should be free esoecially if you own the phone. Here is my way I will go to a website give the IMEI code get the code cancel the charge(dispute it) since I own the phone and its my right to unlock it free.

I did this on a stock android 2.1 update 1 phone (release jf6). It worked like a charm for me. Please make sure you have adb working. Try installing adb and setting a environment variable path so that it will work from any directory. Thanks a lot guys. This really helped!

A few things... 1. Read everything about this process, EVERYTHING. 2. Back up your EFS folder. 3. This isnt a hack, you wont get free phone service, free auto insurance or a college degree. Only use this if you are comfortable with modding your phone. A lot of serious damage (easily fixed) can occur to your system files. You will need to edit your APN settings afterwards... if switching carriers.
