@1761Charlie Why can't we love them both for their individual talents? Why do we have to hate all of today's music just b/c we believe we had the best there ever was back then? I love them both...and I would bet you, they love each others' music. Oh, and just for the record...that wasn't French.
musically, this is everything a love song should be.....smooth sympathetic background instruments and heart felt vocals. Her smokey style voice is the iceing on the cake
FYTI: The rhythm tracks were recorded @ Muscle Shoals Sound Studio in Sheffield, Alabama, USA in August/September, 1969, by the then unknown musicians the Swampers and Duane Allman. Lulu was only the second major artist to record there (Cher was the 1st).
@tomthefunky Memphis, England was a joke although I didnt know she recorded an album in Memphis, Tenn. LuLu has a great voice and presence. I love her music no matter where it was produced ! Go LuLu !!
@2010metsfan LOL.....Seasons in the sun.......that has to be in the top 5 worst songs ever written. Right up there with "you light up my life". Funny you mention that exact song......I always turn the station the instant that comes on
The best of her work. Barely scraped the top 50 in the UK. Sometimes the British record buying public has no taste. Forget "Boom Bang A Bang" and "I'm A Tiger", this is the real deal.
@funkycandycool Totally agree. One of the things about girl singers of the 60s is that they often recorded stuff that wasn't necessarily their own choice or what they did best. Lulu, Dusty and Sandie are all cases in point. This was for me by far her best work of the 60s and 70s, and shows off her fine voice to great effect.
@SouthCoastMackem You're so right & what a shame. Who knows how many more wonderful songs she could have done. Her 3 best to this day are To Sir With Love, Oh Me Oh My, & Best of Both Worlds. I can really appreciate what a superb job she did on these songs & with absolutely NO harmonies. Simply amazing. I just love her use of the melismatic technique. Did you happen to catch her on American Idol a few years ago? She still has the magic. I'd love to see her live somewhere.
@funkycandycool I also like "I Could Never Miss You" a lot. I live in the UK, so I didn't see her on American Idol. However, my wife and I saw her live in Bournemouth in 2003 about the time she brought out a "Greatest Hits" album, with both "Oh Me Oh My" and "To Sir With Love" on it, although not "Best Of Both Worlds". She gave an excellent performance. Keep on loving good music!
@SouthCoastMackem Lucky you! There must be plenty of opportunities to see her there. I love good music & I'm afraid I must continue to live in the past since there has been nothing even resembling it for the last 25 years or so. I'm so thankful I can still enjoy all the great tunes from the 60s & 70s. Long may they live, or should I say longer!!! The song you mentioned is yet another good one.
@funkycandycool We are both blessed in that we love great music from great times. We can look back and appreciate quality, unlike most of today's modern music, which is drivel. :-)
Still, the most beautiful song I ever heard. Used to have this wonderful album by the incomparable Lulu. If you can, boswell, please post the other songs. Miss this album so much.
