As a software developer and avid stargate fan, it's pretty depressing to see some of the more detailed shots there. A lot of hard work went into this product that will probably never release and almost certainly never see its potential.

@naziroli88 Sorry to tell you that this game is permanently on hold for production due to a lack of funding. The developer filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy in February of 2010.
I mean, if you find a similar thing like a ZPM there.... so it makes the whole scenery different, like you could explore another galaxy if the people on your server found a zpm somewhere

I think they CAN make this game work, but this vid shows their shooting too high. Start off the game with just a couple worlds, like 5 or so, and slowly start adding them once your done making a world. Don't release it in one big bundle.

This game is DEAD they didn't just slow their work, thats wishful thinking. As of this month they have until the end of April to clear out of the office buildings. They are totally bankrupt and all investors have pulled out.
I think I spoke out of line akimccc, there is always a chance for a good online game for any good sci-fi show. So in a way I spoke too soon.
What I should have said was that it would be possible to make a good online game for Stargate like WOW, however whoever was in charge of making it would have to do a really good job on it. Meaning players could play as the Tau'ri (humans),The Jaffa, and a couple of other species. Plus the option for Space ships. Do that and it could be great.
I spoke a little out of turn there smack, it could be possible for a online stargate game to work. Having said that the developers would have to do a awesome job on it if it was too have any success. It couldn't be a pointless shooter. You'd have to have distinct classes and skills for each class. Levels of some kind that would develop your character, and ships to fly as a group to make it a game to rival WOW. That's unlikely to happen though so I'd rather see a decent MassEffect knockoff...
@Mcstooger Imagine the lag of having 10s of thousands of players starting at the SGC! I hope it's not like StarTrek Online, where they deviated from canon so much that I didn't want to even buy the game. (Bridges were huge and 3 screened.) I don't know, perhaps MMOs aren't my thing, but I don't think it would work either.

Personally a Stargate game would do best to be based off the series where you are sent to numerous planets for more than just fighting. I mean the Startrek online looked ok but I dont like massive online games because not everyone wants to use tactics they just want to "run and gun" like idiots.

this is never going to come out,was sposed to be out last year then it was moved to june 2009,the december 2009 now its current release date is september 2010,its not going to come out.
it was sposed to be released in 2007 though and since 2008 no new advances or news has been made of it and the last post on there actual website was june 2008 i would say the projects pretty much abandoned..
eehum no it is not. The last post was august 2009 implying that they are still working on it. The closed beta is up and running and the open are up for release. It is scheduled for release in 2010 but that might be hoping too much. The global economy problems just halted the project.
It's obvious that they're refining the game. If it takes them a little longer to work on a game and make it better, than so be it. Atleast they're not pulling an SOE move and making sure the release date is met even if the game is broken.
Stargate SG-1 Alliance was cancelled, now this. At least i have the old game for the Genesis, but still :(

I don't know, perhaps MMOs aren't my thing, but I don't think it would work either.

@Chewytube1, I agree I would prefer a single player game with the option of online play or maybe co-op play.
Personally a Stargate game would do best to be based off the series where you are sent to numerous planets for more than just fighting. I mean the Startrek online looked ok but I dont like massive online games because not everyone wants to use tactics they just want to "run and gun" like idiots.

@Milner62 hmm,i would also love to see a first person shooter RPG style game.Have you ever played Mount&Blade? Imagine a game based on SG1 through SGU where you can raise an army and fight in the battles as a main player,flying ships witha real live crew or going to battle agianst real humans who can hire NPC as soldiers. i thik something like this is out of reach in our time though ahha.:)

When i play games like this or Mount&Blade war band online its rare that i get a company of players who band together as a unit to fight the opposing army,its usually peolple go there own way and who ever swings the sword first wins,bow men hardly stand for more then 3 mins :(

@pettdog78 why would it not work, i think, and maybe i'm not the only one, that the Stargate universe has much more potential than warcraft ever will(which btw, it's getting it's original and amazing lore butchered day by day by incompetents just to keep their playerbase stable, that's one thing I hate about mmo's, it's not about the game, the lore anymore, it's about numbers, money and players)...it just takes the right people and right, again, sum of money to make it work

@pettdog78 Actually, the whole idea works better than wow. 1) Shooter, so simplier. 2) already a backstory and lore 3) gates = port to other servers / content. Open worlds, plural, instead of just 2. PvP based? Take over a planet and use it as your base of operations with people all over the world taking shifts guarding the gate. How could that not be fun?

haha I want this game, but I just think it's funny, we got Star Trek Online in a little over a year, how long has this game been in production? we'll likely get SWTOR before this, but it better be like the most epic awesome science fiction MMO I have every set eyes upon or there will be hell to pay! not really, and I don't expect it to be the most epic awesome, I'd just like them to you know, release it at some point, or release an open beta, something.

if u think about the fact that this game is suposed to be bigger than world of warcraft. so if it is true there is a limit to how good u can make ur graphics good since if there is too much textures you gpu/cpu whatever the gaming rig ull have would ramm like shit

this is never going to come out,was sposed to be out last year then it was moved to june 2009,the december 2009 now its current release date is september 2010,its not going to come out.

it was sposed to be released in 2007 though and since 2008 no new advances or news has been made of it and the last post on there actual website was june 2008 i would say the projects pretty much abandoned..

eehum no it is not. The last post was august 2009 implying that they are still working on it. The closed beta is up and running and the open are up for release. It is scheduled for release in 2010 but that might be hoping too much. The global economy problems just halted the project.

It's obvious that they're refining the game. If it takes them a little longer to work on a game and make it better, than so be it. Atleast they're not pulling an SOE move and making sure the release date is met even if the game is broken.
