Yes I have killed about 12 fish so far, fish I caught from a lake, but as I understand it, this is normal. As you said fishless cycling is much better, but who can wait :-)

I used construction grade plastic and it cracked from heat. So that idea failed..however I learned so much that I feel it was worth it.
This year I am fired up to use bluegill or pan fish and a larger aquaponic system in the yard..some place in the yard maybe in the house? No no wife has limits to this madness....HA HA!
no only the de-nitriding bacteria go into the beds and yes it multiplies naturally. it needs to stay wet with short periods of air (drain) time but never let it dry.
the EM, you'll want to use any brand sold for humans that contains the probiotics for good intestinal health. i soak it into their feed pellets. they must consume it.

I plan to have some vids up soon of my aquaponics setup so i can join you and others with the revolution of aquaponics. Check up on my vids from time to time. I'm hoping to have some vids up by the end of this week. I've got to buy a few more fish and some EM. I've got 4 fish. Need a few more tho. much thanks tho, man.

Also, did you add the EM bacteria to the beds, or did it grow all naturally just with the water running through it periodically?
