As a controls engineer I can tell you that Vista is useless to me. A lot of the software that I use for Programmable Logic Controllers will not work with Vista. I also do a lot of Robot programming simulations, and Vista is just not the answer. When I purchased my new laptop I wiped Vista. This software takes 1 gig of ram just to run!! XP only takes 256meg. No thanks I will stick to XP
Vista is not all just a lot of eye candy, lots of old stuff has either been rewritten or updated, lots of it's hidden in things like kernel and tcpip stack, but also on the outside when you really start looking beyond the looks. They have made changes to programs that haven't been changed in almost 10 years. I'm still an XP fan,but you need to give credit where credit is due.
And as for lack of drivers and support; Microsoft has done that and manufacturers had 4 1/2 years to be prepared! I tried Vista and went back because the company who wrote my Anti Spamware was still after a year working on a Vista version and I know tons of examples like that. I wouldn't call that Microsoft's fault. Is it Microsoft's fault that Nvidia had the most terrible drives when Vista was released? What could MS have done to improve this?
Independent research has shown that over 30% of all Vista problems in the beginning were related to Nvidia's video drivers, look it up with Google:
NVIDIA drivers responsible for nearly 30% of Vista crashes in 2007 Sorry, but if a company like Nvidia isn't ready after 4 ½, then when ARE they going to be ready?? It took Nvidia an extra year after the release of Vista to fix most of their problems.
On the other hand I do think that Vista was rushed, but they did fix the most important issues in SP1, so yes, that's an area in which they HAVE failed, but Vista itself is an excellent OS, it just has a terrible windows explorer...yuck...reason why they bought out the Adobe developer who developed Lightroom to fix that problem.
vista sucks cock

Btw, I continue to use XP because it's like they say "Don't fix it if it ain't broken".
I did run Vista 64 bit for 6 months, just out of curiousity.
