I can't recall ever reading a scripture that conveyed God's approval or rape or murder. The Old Testament is much more primitive than the New Testament - no doubt.
I think the true evil is when religion is in the hand's of man. Faith is an easy tool of manipulation as evidenced by the Catholic Church.
