@xKarly Bengals are a hybrid between a wild cat (The Asian Leopard Cat to be exact.) and a domestic house cat whereas Servals are pure wild cat I believe.
@SephCrescent i know your trying to be good with defending wild animals like these but if u think about it u should be saying stop buying every kind of pet all together afterall all animals in the world at one point in time were wild. hey were animals too and we can be wild a lot of the time just like wild animals so if u think about it even more humans who kill animal or keep them as pets means that animals are killing animals and animals are keeping animals as pets ha
@SebisTheCat I'll back up DJxKILLERBOY117 on this. Siamese can be pretty damn evil. I've met a few that are downright malevolent. But they can also be very loving, even clingy. There just doesn't seem to be much in-between... Plus, they sound like they're dying or throwing up. Seriously, their meow sounds like their deathly ill.
@nightsniperking while I agree you should never get a Serval because of it's wild look, there are still reasons why they make good pets if under the proper owners. They are intelligent, tame, and their loyalty goes unchallenged by any domesticated animal. These things form an enormous bond with their owners, which is why you should still make sure you are ready for such a long-term commitment (they can live 20+ years, and do not handle switching owners well at all.)
A serval is cute but it's not a pet ... He's not where he belongs, i just hope he's happy anyway
"not quite so gentle anymore" Are you surprised ? If one day you have any trouble with him and doesn't want to live with him anymore, don't let him in the street or anywhere contact big cat rescue, and i would advise you to do it before he kills one of your pets. :s He's beautiful and your bengal too !!!
@MrBologna12345 hopefully you feel better about yourself...you have just won a major victory in the battle for spelling versus properly...nice job, mom should be proud
Servals reside on a fine line in that regard. These are the gods of Egypt and they've been kept as pets since those ancient times as well. Heck some American domestics are descended from them.
On that note, I still hate the fact that they are bought and sold as exotic pets. I wish they could be treated as domestics by law, as they are no more dangerous than a large dog and are some of the easier large cats to tame. Heck it may actually help with the declining population.
@Vicalliose@xXWowzers2708Xx They're both a breed of wild cat that a majority of the time don't get the proper nutrition they need from domestic homes, nor do the environments they're given meets their needs. The lack of nutrition causes a painful stunted growth, and deformed tails in servals.
While having one may mean there are more in existence it doesn't in any way help restore the healthy ones to the wild to help the ecosystem restore itself. T_T;
@AnnAmewable and you are stupid. captive bred animals dont have enough instincts to be 'wild' animals. 'wild' animals are scared and/or violent tawords humans.
The simple fact is that this is a wild cat being kept as a pet. It is not a domesticated bread and is not treated as such. Not all wild animals are scared or violent towards people, sure some are...some don't care about us at all.
While most captive bred animals will not to well if released cats need very little assistance to fend for them selves.
okay so whats the problem of keeping it then? if its obviously happy, healthy, doesnt know life any other way? it would probably be scared shitless if it were released into the wild.
oh + a bengal isnt a wild animal. their distant relatives are wild but they are not. theyve been bred domestically since 1980s or before.
and they dont say how pure this serval is. i hardly doubt its been plucked out of the wild, it could even be a savanah version.
Either it's a serval or it isn't. If it's a serval then it's a wild cat. Bengals have nothing at all to do with what I said and neither does anything else you waffle on about in this comment.
Part of the problem is that taking these animals into private ownership prevents those from being used in breeding programs trying to help this endangered animal. The genetic heritage of private animals is difficult to ascertain and their are dangers of inbreeding and cross breeding.
I must ask, why did you feel the need to say that? It makes you look very silly and makes any valid point you may have had seem like the ramblings of an idiot.
If you try to keep discussions civil, then your point seems far more reasoned. even if it is incorrect.
@Pook365 hang on; youre the one that commented on this in the first place. did you not expect people to comment back? you obviously didnt know what you were talking about espicialy if you thought a bengal was a wild animal. so why comment?
@AnnAmewable ya um ur an idiot so ur saying if a Serval is raised in captivity for all it's kitten life we should dump it in the wild, sadly theres going to be people breeding these guys, sadly they are going to be pets but you know what i think that the people who have them in zoos those are the heroes because alot of animals go extinct in the wild and with zoos and such hey we bring them back
omg!!! i want a really big house.. lot of money... and like... 500 of thosee!!! how beautiful!!! well at least 100 of them and the other 400 could be any breed !! or not breed at all :P I LOVE cats!
@mihailimitless Well, they're not necessarily mean... but they are a little more skittish than other cats. They'll pick a person they like, and hide the rest of the time. It can be a devil to find one if it doesn't wanna see you!
@crazymangas: I agreed with you. It disturbs me that these animals, whose natural habitat is the plains of Africa where they serve an important ecological purpose, are being sold for profit as household pets. Anyone, with no qualification other than money, can purchase one. When such a self-centered person tires of it, or it bursts free, what then? wow do you mind if i ask you around how much you paid for one? i simply love my bengals but later on down the road i would like to get a serval... or two.
lol that looks like my 8 yr old cat whos fat trying to play while laying down with my other cat whos 7 has 1 blind eye a broken tail he doest grow longer (possibly cuz his tail/part of his spine is broken and wont ever heal cuz he was mistreated when he was young by uhh idk but mean people)so hes almost as fat as my other kitty i want a serval or a savannah or bengal
Right now he is 9 weeks old and he eats a LOT, 4 times a day, I feed him ground turkey, baby rice cereal and his formula. A grown Serval will eat a chicken quarter a day. He is a ton of work, but so worth it. Just know that most servals are NOT cuddly. They can be sweet, with head butts and purring, but they are also very hissy and unpredictable :-) Not at all for a home with small children. I waited years to have a serval and wouldnt want to be without him now. Hes a ton of fun!
