We need a more sane view of the Crusades nowadays. On the one hand we get hypocritical condemnation by those who praise others who've done far worse. A Muslim bringing up the Crusades is like a Nazi bringing up Dresden or a communist bringing up My Lai. All ignore far worse tragedies for ideological gain.

But you must admit that it's one of the most fascinating episodes of history, and that's exactly why I'm interested; because I'm fascinated. What irritates me is when people (Christians & Muslims) often talk about it today as if their family members took part in, and get all too heated up about it. Even WWII has become ancient history, but not the crusades. That's childish!

We need a more sane view of the Crusades nowadays. On the one hand we get hypocritical condemnation by those who praise others who've done far worse. A Muslim bringing up the Crusades is like a Nazi bringing up Dresden or a communist bringing up My Lai. All ignore far worse tragedies for ideological gain.

If you study the old Jewish laws and legal codes, you'll find practices no less cruel. As a matter of fact, Islam adopted most of the Jewish laws regarding domestic, social and legal issues. Just like Christianity, Islam too is a variant of Judaism.

But you must admit that it's one of the most fascinating episodes of history, and that's exactly why I'm interested; because I'm fascinated. What irritates me is when people (Christians & Muslims) often talk about it today as if their family members took part in, and get all too heated up about it. Even WWII has become ancient history, but not the crusades. That's childish!

it doesn't make it better, it is the language we use to discribe it like "terrorism" which i think is not acurate. i think civil war would be a better term to use in regards to the muslim vs muslim conflicts. they are not quite the same as the terrorism in europe for example, they are actuall political parties that are supported by large parts of the population. the problem is in the militia laws of the region, most of the governments allow for any group that can support one to maintain it.

Of course not everyone realises this point so they take many opinions to be fact. I use "crusade" because the Christian crusades are so widely reviled in our popular culture. They are used as an example of the evils of Christianity. Everyone understands what a crusade is.
