  • Earnhardt, Rudd, Schrader, Marlin, Wallace, Labontes, Jarrett, Elliot. Back in the day when 40 year old men dominated the sport and there was almost nobody that you didn't like.

  • @MurphyMonster

    Good times.

  • It's so weird during the red flg that they talk about how safe the cars was and they had dale earnhardts car for the example. R.I.P. Dale we miss you every race.

  • When the replay from Stewart's rear bumper gets shown (2:16:00), the voice over the radio sounds like Ken Schrader (I need 4 tires; I made it through! I flat-spotted the tires; I made it through.) At 2:21:00 (behind Steve Park), you'll see him lock up the tires, narrowly avoid Burton & Stewart, and cut to the inside to miss Martin & Robby Gordon.

Or maybe Tony just got knocked silly. But the voice didn't sound like him.

  • did anyone notice that Kyle Petty after his interview proceeded to put on hit HANS device? I'm sure he was convinced about it's usefulness after the tragedy that happened to his son. If only Dale had done the same :\

  • U want to know a cool fact on lap 85 Earnhardt sr gave Kurt busch the finger and Dale said Kurt your number one good old Dale Earnhardt

  • Lucky enough to be there hard to believe it's been 11 years. Race for the ages until the last 35 laps.

  • U almost feel like u don't want this race to start

  • Didnt think Id get emotional watching this video, but whenever your favorite sport loses a star, you cant help but get emotional.

  • I very much appreciate this upload. I had only seen the crash (over & over). It was an amazing race minus the crash at the end. Even knowing the outcome, I still teared up when Sr & Kenny collided. I agree Kenny had a feeling Dale sr was gone. You could hear it in his voice & see it in his face.

  • am i the only one who thinks schrader knew something was wrong?

  • Is it ironic that jeff hammonds cut away car is an earnhardt car and he was talking about how safe the cars are?

  • @MrBurney12 Where do they go over the cut-away car.

  • @CombatArmsMaster2009 It was during the red flag after the big one not sure what time it was

  • @MrBurney12 The time was 2:28:00 to be exact, but you helped to narrow it down alot.

  • Sad that at the beginning of this race we mourned the death of Adam Petty and at the end we was mourning the death of the greatest ever Dale Earnhardt. I miss my hero.

  • from a fan that hated dale earrnhardt with a passion as an 8 year old for always wrecking my favorite drivers, since this race ive gained a ton of respect for the ol number 3 and he has become one of my all time favorite drivers, still get imense chills everytime i see the cutscene of the field in turn three, then larry mac, then the two cars in the wall....still too powerful of a sight, r.i.p. dale 3

  • We love u Dale!!

  • Too bad Earnhardt isnt around to smack the shit out of Kurt and Kyle

  • Ahhh... back when real racing was done

  • This Is The Day That NASCAR Changed Forever. REST IN PEACE DALE!!!!!

  • I feel so bad for Michael Waltrip. What should have been the best day of his life became the worst. He finally wins, but he loses his best friend in the process. That just isn't fair at all.

  • @kharvrules29

I liken Michael Waltrip's two Daytona 500 wins to the two Indianapolis 500s that Gordon Johncock won, since he never really got to celebrate either of them. Waltrip's great win in the 2001 race was overshadowed by the worst crash in the history of the event and later the crash that killed Earnhardt, and his win in 2003 will always be tainted by the fact that rain shortened the race to just 109 laps.

  • @cjs3872 Wow. I did not know any of that. That is all terrible. Note to Johncock. Never win the Indy 500. You will suffer for it.

In all seriousness, that really is terrible and I feel bad for that guy

  • @kharvrules29

Of course, Johncock's first Indy win in 1973 is forever tainted by all the terrible things that happened, the 12-car crash on the first attempt to start the race that badly injured Salt Walther, Swede Savage's crash that eventually led to his death, and the pit road accident that killed a crewman on the car of Graham McRae, not to mention all the rain that also plagued that race, stretching it to three days, and shortening it even then. That race is on my channel.

  • @kharvrules29

But Johncock didn't get to celebrate his thrilling 1982 win over Rick Mears in what is considered by many to be the greatest Indianapolis 500 in history for very long, either. That's because his mother died on the night of the victory banquet, so Johncock, in his day, much like Michael Waltrip in the last decade, never really got to celebrate his two greatest victories.

  • hey you are the Man !!! great videos ....!!

  • I have never been a Robby Gordon fan

  • Mikey Waltrip getting squeezed in the middle

  • What an awesome broadcast......its shame fox is just crap now

  • @Xxhollywoodundead101 there not crap in comparison to everyone else but compered to this, yea they are...

  • @Xxhollywoodundead101

Fox is way better than ESPN, I miss old Fox and old TNT

  • three words: THE BIG ONE!!

  • The 2001 Daytona 500 that was a exciting race that turned into the worst saddest day in racing

  • how many cars crash 18?

  • 5:23 just gives me the chills

  • NASCAR, look at this racing. FIX THIS 2-Car Shit....

  • @dolphinmagic24fan I think they got rid of it

  • sound ironic when Jeff Hammond say the Nascar are the safe race car in the world.

  • @lonchi95

NASCAR cars have always been the safest in motorsports. The fact that Tony Stewart wasn't seriously injured in his wild rollover crash on lap 174 of this race is proof of that. Actually, go back to the 1976 Daytona 500 broadcast, Jackie Stewart of ABC Sports applauded the safety of the NASCAR machines back then as the safest in motorsports. Some of that safety feature was also used in the 1978 Daytona 500 telecast, because of the hard crashes that took place in that race.

  • @cjs3872 I would argue that the "turn of century" Champ Cars were the safest racecars. Remember Zanardi's crash? He probably should have died, given his injuries (he survived on one PINT of blood while Dr. Terry Trammell and crew worked medical wonders on him). Aside from CART's top-rate medical staff, the reason Alex survived was the integrity of the car (improved over the years with input from Dr's Trammell and Olvey).

  • @UberAntisocialist

First, Zanardi surviving that crash had nothing to do with the safety of those Indy-type cars, though they were safer than their predecessors. First, that race should never have been held. Remember when it was held, just four and a half days after the 9/11 attacks, so you just had a feeling that nothing good would happen, and Zanardi's crash was the proof. As for the safety of the NASCAR cars, they've been the safest for decades, and continue to be.

  • @UberAntisocialist

One of the reasons that the stock cars have always been the safest in any form of racing, especially the ones in NASCAR's top series, is the fact that there's a roof over the driver's head. Also, there has been protection in the side area with steel bars for reinforcement, and now with the current Cup cars, a big foam block between the shet metal and roll cage that gives even greater protection than ever.

  • damn the bump drafting was use in 2001

  • This is the day Nascar died. It started with FOX ruining how Nascar was covered and it ended with Dale's passing. I blame FOX. They pushed the race back an hour from it's past traditional noon start. Had the race started at noon like always it would of been totally different circumstances. I hate FOX and all of the other twenty-first century broadcasters coverage of Nascar. ESPN, TBS, TNN, ABC and CBS in the 80's & 90's were the best.

  • @ciccone39 Different circumstances? Whatever dude

  • 2 17 30 #5 bobby labontie fail

  • That was a classic Earnhardt pass at 33:21

  • Thank you so much for uploading the full race, from a UK NASCAR fan i have nothing but respect for all US race fans

  • to see that video at 00:30, kills me just knowing he has 3 hours to live.

  • A Day That Will Live in Infamy. Ralph Dale Earnhardt, Sr R.I.P, Sir. We Miss You.

  • i always recall what i said on my way home from my brothers after watching this race...i was 10 at the time and kept saying "this was the most exciting race i've ever watched". Unfortunately it turned into the most tragic but you have to admit....this aero package was insane

  • Its amazing how that fateful day started off so glorious and this was shaping up to be arguably one of the greatest days/races in NASCAR history. Thats what strikes me now looking back on this day. How everything changed in the blink of an eye. In one moment the greatest high NASCAR could have ever imagined and the next moment, Its all changed forever

  • i can tell you all right now i was crying after here he was dead after that i was hope in he walk away just like he all ways did have a wreck he walked away form all the other ones he was in

  • Do re mine me of that part of of u and the 8 baby u in the 8

  • Nothing beats DW's reaction...

  • 2:52:37

"You and the eight, baby, you and the eight."

And then we all lost the legend, Dale Earnhardt.

  • best daytona and sadest daytona RIP dale sr :,(

  • Anyone else besides me really think the national anthem during this race was one of the best in Daytona history? Idk it just sounds so good and all their voices singing is really nice I think!

  • hey guys dale wold what us to be happy for him in what he did for the sport of Nascar so i know everyone misses the man in black but be happy he change the

sport in the last 10 years for his death

  • Comment removed

  • actually most of the drivers in this race are no longer nascar drivers

  • so many of these drivers that had a role in the end of this race arent even racing anymore

  • Triumph & tragedy. RIP Dale. You have got to feel sorry for Michael, wins his first race and never got a chance to celebrate. You have to wonder why circumstances like this happen.

  • A very great yet depressing race. Rest in peace Dale, your always the best driver in NASCAR history.

  • @TheHoodedCreature x2. The whole thing was pretty ironic as well... Michael winning, Dale JR 2nd, Sr 3rd, last lap.... I REALLY miss Dale

  • thank you for uploading this.

  • Thank you for uploading this whole race. If Dale Earnhardt wouldnt of died, this would be the best Daytona 500 ever. If i could ask you to never delete this video. I love this type of racing, side by side, and the lead changes. Thank you for uploading this video.

  • @sharpe263 Now at Daytona and Talladega its that shitty 2 car draft. This is real racing.

  • @grassman9622 I agree.

  • this makes me cry just as much as it did 10 years ago. RIP DALE <3

  • @Brian211978 i cant blame him, i would not have wanted to be the person to tell the world that Dale Earnhardt was dead

  • Schrader new what he seen. Just couldn't get the strength to say what he seen!

  • Even though my hero died during this race, we also saw some of the best racing of all time during the race, so sad, RIP Dale

  • Thanks for uploading this race, and you I believe are the first person to upload the entire thing for people without having them switch parts 19 times.

  • R I P dale earnhart,ur the greatest

  • "i hope dale's okay, i guess he's alright isn't he?" :( sad

  • 2:52:38 R.I.P Dale Earnhardt Sr.
