  • Semper Fi! Sgt. Holt R Louque, 3rd MarDiv, 4th Marine Regt., Scout/Sniper Platoon, Viet Nam '67, '68, '69.

  • America will destroy itself. Incestuous christian scumbags.

    HAIL EUROPA!

  • damn it. Now I have to find @NASNIPmangco0l comment.

  • this march sounds so much better when played at a marching level. slower than this. this is one bad ass march.

  • God Bless our Troops! all over the world...

  • @smokescreen There is no god. Die american troops!

  • God Bless John Philip Sousa for giving the Euphoniums an amazing part =)

  • nice music but no bless to America

  • Run from the marines if you can america DOMINATES

  • HOOAH!

  • Musica Maravilhosa. Excelente

  • My band is playing this at Disneyland in January. So excited!

  • SMPER FI......!!!!!!!

  • just out of curiosity but did the motto come from the song or did the song come from the motto (i dont know this given my young age)

  • @9598dad ... the motto is Latin for Always Faithful , dunno but i think it would have been motto 1st.

  • @9598dad The motto came first. It's been in use for centuries by other nations. The motto was adopted by the Marine Corps in the early 1880's. The March was composed in 1888/89 by J.P. Sousa.

  • I'm not in the slightest bit militaristic, nor am I American, but I do love this Sousa march.

  • MCRD Parris Island, H Co. Plt 2074

  • USMC San Diego feb 1979 2nd Batalion Platoon 2028

  • I never tire of playing this song! Although, a trombone player never really tires of playing marches. At least I dont :).

  • Portuguese blood through its veins! :D

  • John Phillip Sousa was half Portuguese and half German....My last name is Basque, but I have probably only 1/16 Basque blood..Because his name was Sousa doesn't mean he was Portuguese. By the way if you really know anything about him??? He was born in Washington D.C. and raised as an American. His Father was a U.S. Marine..Eres igula que los Españoles, siempre diciendo estupideces sobre los raices de gente famosa solo para dar un poco de valor a vuestras vidas de mierda.

  • Who can't like this?

  • Makes me want to get out my trombone and play right now!

  • @boneclub24 haha same here! :D

  • to ticktockjoe

    Eat crap and die

  • when the shit hits the fan, send in the marines

  • I'm not as fond of this arrangement, which repeats the original melody after the trio is complete. I think it's better when the end of the trio is the end. Still, it's one of my favorite Sousa marches.

  • Fameux!

  • Complementi Per America saluti

  • God Bless you Sausa, you sure made a difference in military music

  • @ctraver Then I stand corrected, but that doesn't mean that his marches are something to brushed away, not that I'm saying you implied that. I just think Sousa's great, that's all I wanted to get across.

  • @icanmakemusic ...There are several premier march composers, Cark Teike, Julius Fucik, Ludwig van Beethoven, Frederic Joseph Ricketts.......but Sousa stands right with them, in fact probably wrote more GOOD marches than anyone else. If you like martial music, I recommend a Polish march to you.....look for "Marsz Rzeczpospolita" and no I can't pronounce it but it's one of the best I've heard....I have NO idea who wrote it. I believe it is "March Republic" in English.

  • To my good friend and shipmate Dan Sadowski JR. 28 year Navy vet. Passed just last week.. too soon. Not a Marine, just an old Navy plane fixer like me.... sigh... this song does remind me of you old friend. You are on Eternal watch now over us all. I feel safe at night. Join you soon.

  • Semper Fi Brothers and Sisters!

    God Bless America !

    USMC 62-68 Sgt.

  • @FlakVest Semper FI Yes! American needs God more than ever.

  • @FlakVest MURDERER!

  • @FlakVest First in, last out-- MARINES! OO RAH!

  • @FlakVest what is semper fi?

  • @360PATCH it is the USMC'S motto and means Always Faithful

  • @FlakVest God bless America? There is no god. There is no America. Die!

  • Well, whatever.... still great to listen to this today, 4 July, 2011. My "shadow box" (yes I'm retired Navy, 30 years) has a flag flown over NAS Lemoore California 4 years ago today. I requested that. Many ask for flags from their state capitol or DC, I asked for a flag from the base I spent 20 years of my service in the greatest Navy squadrons in history on my country's birthday....yes, I will listen to this and remember all my shipmates.

  • @ Wolverine - you're just another right-winger who thinks that freedom means the freedom to do what *you* want. US fighting men and women fought and died for a greater range of freedom than you seem inclined to grant.

  • @srg2457 stay away from my freedom you commie fag

  • @ramonnie007 I wouldn't call him simple, his marches are awesome, if they weren't then they wouldn't be so renown. And the Marine Corps band is incredible.

  • This IS the Greatest country in the world made by God. Every fighting man and woman who serves to protect what God has made lays their lives down for FREEDOM! No socialists nor liberals, nor radicals will take OUR country away from you or me.

  • our marching band plays this song (a watered down version) for every parade that were in(: i especially love playing this for the fact that there are veterans watching us play and i feel very proud to be honoring them through music

  • American patriotism. Fuck that.

  • @BathorysGraveland

    faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaccccccccck yoooooooooooooooooou

  • @BathorysGraveland ....goe suck your camels ass....!

  • @alolivas I live in Australia, so that could be rather difficult.

  • @BathorysGraveland Suck your own unpatriotic ass.....!

  • @alolivas Yes because patriotism is such a nice thing. Fucking prick.

  • @alolivas= I've seen his page. Koala Boy is obviously a virgin who lives with his parents. And his ex-girlfriend left him for a French surfer because he has a small weiner. Now he lives with a rubber woman. Ha ha ha.

  • Mr Sousa's songs make me feel very patriotic!

  • Only dumbasses believe Osama Bin Laden is dead, stupid capitalistic, naive people.

  • its one of hise greatest how can you not see this

  • Top 5 Sousa's Greatest Marches (IMO):

    5. The Thunderer

    4. El Capitan

    3. The Washington Post

    2. Semper Fidelis

    1. The Stars and Striped Forever

All of Sousa's works are amazing! One of the best American composers.

  • @NASNIPmangco0l,

I think Sousa did not write even one march that can compeed with European marches. All of his marches sound the same and are pretty boring.

  • @ramonnie007 Are you kidding me?!?! Sousa is the founder of the Marine Corps band!! He's basically the reason why marches exist! Have some appreciation,it's JOHN PHILLIP SOUSA for cryin out loud!!!!!!

    female poolee-future marine! :D

  • @icanmakemusic,

What has that to do with the type of music he wrote. There are a lot more composers who wrote a lot more and better marches then Sousa, so he is NOT the reason marches excist. He was just a simple composer who founded the Marine Corps Band, not a musical genius!

  • @icanmakemusic Sousa was born in 1854, several decades after the founding of the Marine band in 1801.

  • @NASNIPmangco0l NO Sousa IS the BEST American composer, period.

  • i wish i was in this ensemble! i only get too play one march a year, and they play a lot!...

  • i was here because of spongebob

  • Anyone who loves music should like this. ANY band OR orchestra player should know JPS.

  • I hope we got that fucker. I'm not convinced.

  • first time i played this was in 9th grade, and i had NEVER seen 6/8 in my life. scared the heck out of me until i realized it was basically 2/4, and i kind of got it. this is an excellent march, though. pretty yucky for an inexperienced 9th grade band, however. i pity our parents during that concert

  • @mrcadencecat 9th was the first time I played it too!! :D

  • Di curam nobis quia sunt com vincere erant dederit

  • so much better then the star spangled banner...

  • National anthem right there ^^^

  • @matthmatthmatth hey dick, i play trombone, also your not a man your a troll. good day

  • @TheNintendinator You've made me a troll by responding to me .. how stupid can you get??

    FUCK OFF RICK!

  • @matthmatthmatth i said you where a troll because i was just making a comment when someone who had a worse day then me says "stop bragging about yourself when no one asked". i didnt ask to be responded to negatively, but once again a dick had to comment. now as for me being stupid... hahaha. go get a life

  • @TheNintendinator I don't want to hear about your piss poor life, Super Nintendo. Go super suck yourself off. FUCK OFF RICK!

  • "To Chesty Puller, wherever you are"!

  • No better friend and no worse enemy than the US Marines. I feel better knowing they're out there.

  • @SpeedyNeutrino43 Yes, US marines are awesome, but nothing can stop the KOREAN MARINES! except obama lol

  • 'A Few Good Men' is such a good film

  • viva la libertad. Gracias Infantes de Marina SEMPER FI

  • Thumbs up=an Oorah.

  • @wulfshelmut01

You're an idiot. Now go prance around in front of a mirror in your replica SS outfit listening to the Horst Wessel Lied.

  • @unpantsable Oh yes we have made so many great accomplishments. /sarcasm Sure we have did some good stuff. But most of what we have done has been fucked up. The biggest is not securing our country and relying on foreign oil.

  • @wulfshelmut01 if you dont like it leave!

  • It still stands we have the worst marches ever. Nothing that inspires fear.

  • @wulfshelmut01

"Under the Double Eagle" will forever be associated with Conrad Pooh's dancing teeth. So shut up.

  • Comment removed

  • @wulfshelmut01 the purpose of these marches aren't to instill fear, but a feeling of pride and loyalty to your country.

  • Germans had way better marches. Iam an American and I know this.

  • @wulfshelmut01 ..what a puerile, pubescent comment.

  • @SpeedyNeutrino43 Ass. There was nothing wrong with that comment. Its not my fault we have bad military music.

  • @wulfshelmut01 then move to Germany, you sir, suck.

  • @wulfshelmut01

The Krauts need to win a world war- then you, a fucking Jerry-lover, can pop off. Asshole,

  • @TickTockJoe I guess you like knowing the fact that when ever the US marines or army show up any where people that have heard this music will expect clowns and a whole circus with mini clown car?

  • @wulfshelmut01

I will admit: Koniggratzer March is pretty damn catchy.

But I still prefer American marches.

  • @wulfshelmut01 opinions

  • I love this march. It's up there with the Stars and Stripes Forever and The Washington Post March.

  • Genius. The main theme is pure pop. If you can't appreciate this tune, then you're brain-dead.

  • I love to play the tuba part in this song, especially at the Trio. My favorite song to play.

  • EYES... RIGHT! (snap sir)

  • JPS KING OF MARCHING SONGS . Semper Fidelis is my favorite

  • Comment removed

  • Seventy Six Trombones was NOT written by JFS...I was written by Meredith Wilson as the finale to "The Music Man" decades after JFS's death.

  • you got the composer right!

  • God bless the marines.

May the road rise to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face. May the rains fall softly upon your fields. Until we meet again, may God hold you in the hollow of His hand.

  • If any composer can bring pleasure to a listener, than that composer is a worthy one. I like Gershwin (I have problems with Ives) but I find Sousa had a remarkable facility for melodic line in his marches plus a sense of fun. His orchestration shows that. In Stars and Stripes Forever, the use of the piccolo player as a counterpoint to the rest of the band is unexpected and wonderful.

  • @LePrince1890

I mean I really do respect your answer, but for me, Ives was more of an Art composer, and Sousa was a pop composer. For me, I do like Charles Ives more than sousa, but thats just on my composition standpoint. You are very right about his use of a melodic line. Truly genious!

  • @musicalone56 Your division of Sousa as an "Pop composer" and Ives as an "Art composer" is a good one. Gershwin sort of fit both groups, being the Broadway composer and art composer of Rhapsody in Blue and Porgy and Bess. Victor Herbert tried to do both, but his attempts at opera (Natoma) are long forgotten. Sousa felt secure in being the popular composer of Marches and operettas and (arguably) the world's foremost band leader.

  • @LePrince1890 Completely agree with you. He really is the forerunner to the American March, and I greatly respect him for that. I also believe that Sondheim goes before Gershwin in my opinion. What are your thoughts on his music?

  • Another great song for graduation. :P

Thanks JPS for alll the wonderful memories :D

  • Maybe Gershwin or Ives is our greatest composer, but for my money Sousa is as memorable as Gershwin, and his orchestrations are the best of any major American composer.

  • @LePrince1890 To me he's better than Gershwin. I know it might be blasphemy but I've never cared for Gershwins music.

  • @LePrince1890

EVERYBODY IS FORGETTING COPLAND AND BERNSTEIN AND SONHEIM!

  • My favorite march! I marched with pride to this piece in my Marine Corps days, 1996 - 2000. Semper Fidelis to all my fellow Marines out there!

  • I have to play this on 4th of July for a Big Parade. Im really scared because It will be my first time ever marching as a part of the Marching band!

  • @AjaneeBeauty ...Go for it! Just remember all your training and practice. Follow your drum major and keep in step. Good luck you you!

  • We use to march around a Queensland school ground to these Sousa marches. You've no idea the anxiety I felt trying to remember which way to turn and when. Nevertheless I absolutely love these wonderful Sousa marches.

  • i miss playing my clarinet...

  • @auo0505408 dude i play clarinet too! we played this song for our spring concert and we play it for graduation too

  • @auo0505408 I still miss playing in the band too even though I've grown old. I played the saxophone, mostly tenor and clarinet if I had to fill in for a missing band member.

  • @SpeedyNeutrino43 You can always join your local community band. They're known for cranking out tunes like these at summer or patriot day concerts.

  • great piece! my band played this for our spring program.(: I love John Philip Sousa's music!

  • i did this in 7th grade we were o k ;)

  • Ahhh!! I plaed this song a year ago. I loved it. 1st trumpet part is so BA.

  • OOH RAH!

  • Great trombone/bass part after the beginning of the Trio. Gotta love Sousa

  • @hargath1 - this march is from 1888! I've got playlists for every year from today back into the 1880s and added this to the 1888 playlist. Sousa was one of the first 'pop' musicians of his age!

My channel is an 8000 song (so far) archive of 120 years of pop music from around the world. 250 playlists for artists from nearly 30 countries. Hope you'll take a look. Chuck

  • Little King's Story!

  • Zzahier, you got this one right! It actually is a Sousa march.

  • This would have to be my favorite Sousa march.

  • Amazing performance, just perfect! May I ask what´s the band´s name in this record?

  • What are you talking about?

  • Steelers suck. John Phillip Sousa rules.

  • Cavs are only 3rd best team in the East. Stay away from this post. It has nothing to do with sports dude.

  • Come on now, I'm a Clevelander and even I know the Cavs suck. Trying to defend them by saying they're the _third_ best team in a specific region is ridiculous.

  • The Steelers are bitches. Actually thier okay, it's just thier fans that have problems.

    JOHN PHILLIP SOUSA, Hoorah!

  • YEAH CALVES! MMM VEAL . YUM!
