  • Was Al Kooper thrown out from this great band for David boom boom Clayton. I hated that move .. BS&T first record was right on time.

  • Best song on Nuggets.

Either that or "My World Fell Down".

  • @RandomFlashFilms No, this song by a long shot is best. The Shadows of Knight - Oh Yeah would be 2nd best on Nuggets

  • One of my favorites from the memorable Nuggets era. Hopefully a live performance of the band performing this song from back in the day surfaces here soon.

  • which album of theirs was this track on?

i got it, i'd just like to know what album it was on. discogs says "Projections" was their debut album, but it sounds too clean. I want the raw side of blues project.

I got the nuggets comp with this track.

  • @wallymeldrum no it wasnt on projections it was on live at town hall which was actually a compilation of 2 concerts they did in the same day witht 2 sets of equipment town hall and hunter college with murry the k as MC

  • Actually one place sold ice cream and friends worked there it was only going to the park that you found untrustworthy people if not trippers.

  • Good sound but back then everyone was tripp'n in the park.

  • Amor Psicodelico y Paz de colores

  • Al Kooper produced many bands. He matured much after this LP doing "Al Kooper" solo.Shows the top half of the Statue of Liberty & Al's head imposed!Al played organ to Paul Butterfield's electric guitar when Bob Dylan shocked the Folk music crowd electric in "Blonde on Blonde"LP 1965(?).He played around 1968,69 with Steven Stills

  • @RasMajnouni it was mike bloomfields guitar on like a rolling stone al wanted to play guitar on the date but couldnt keep up with bloomfield so dylan let him play organ

  • @spacepatrolman Thanks. I was listening to the radio yesterday & they played "I am a rock"by Simon & Garfunkle" 1963(?) & they had background music which had to be Al Kooper (probably at their producer's insistence)! Thanks

  • @RasMajnouni sounds like al kooper on organ there he also played on the album changes by jim and jean [another folk/folk rock duo ] .

  • @RasMajnouni they backed dylan in the newport folk festival pete seager sat in his car and put his hands over his ears david peele performed on the lawn in front of the newport jazz festival he called it the newport fuck festival they wouldnt let him in

  • @spacepatrolman I find it amazing what you wrote about Pete Seeger putting his hands over his ears.Today I came to the 48 year late observation that Pete Seeger was Holier-Than-Thou, always singing with his kneck up and extended like some gander.Well we are human all.

  • @RasMajnouni I wouldnt say he is hollier than thou i heard he is nice he just wasnt into rock music and couldnt take the volumn

  • Electric Blues Groove At His Best ...

  • A very underrated band that made some great music. Besides Al Kooper they also had traditional blues guitarist Danny Kalb, and bassist Andy Kulberg (RIP), later of Seatrain.

  • @RoyFive david soul was in the blues project danny kalb accompanied him on the merv griffin show i have a seatrain song book that my father found he never heard of them but he thought i would like it same thing with the hardcover book on the blues project .

  • @spacepatrolman i made a mistake it was andy kulberg on the merve griffin show i cant type and drink beer at the same time

  • this cats are groovie as fuck.:)

  • This came out during my final year in high school, '67.

It has a sound like no other record, then or now.

It was the last 45 I bought before leaving New Haven for Manhattan.

    I took this with me.

    Of course

  • Al Kooper was pretty key figure in the sixties. He played on Dylan's Highway 61 Revisited and without his organ work, "Like a Rolling Stone" would never have been great song it was/is. No version of the song without Al Kooper has the same sound as original. (SAVE AMERICA, CLOSE FUTENMA)

  • A nugget for sure.

  • Thanks to the Nuggets compilation this choice morsel of 60's psychedelia came to my attention and along with early Blood, Sweat, and Tears this is Al Kooper at his best.

  • One of their best songs.

    Also liked the collage.

  • an awesome share enlighten421 !!!

    endless stars ******** !!

a classic for my favs.... :)

  • Its a awesome song ************* thanks to mission507 and garageband66

  • I havent heard this song for years....it truly is classic and is 5 out of five stars. Al Kooper is a genious. Ps heard Als added keyboards to Name of the game from Badfinger. It was part of an acetate.

  • coooooool and groovy xx!!!!!babs

  • Such a great sound, Al Kooper did great things with this band. Also, he did a lost 3 rd version of Name of the game from Badfinger, including familiar keyboard trademark sound. (Go check out Brennans Badfinger library for a piece of that )thanks goes out to garyco762 & garageband66 ......regards from Ian.

  • Super, a lost classic ! * * * * * 5/5 stars

  • Really Coool Song!!! 5*s Thank You....Anita...

  • The Blues Project did a show for channel 13 in New York. Anyone have that?

  • No wonder Dylan wanted Kooper, the organ is marvelous. One of the best Organists of the Sixties.

  • Wow, very cool vid, gb66, thanks for posting it! The Blues Project was really an amazing band, they made the 3 Ks (Kalb, Katz, Kooper) a good memory.

  • @alsantosmusic The 3 k's Dog,cat & iron worker(or) Native of Kaliv,Holy Priest,Iron Worker. The Yidden were forced to take family names so "Kalb" means a nativ of Kaliv,Polandor "dog" in Hebrew.Katz sounds like cats but every male Katz is a Cohen (Priest -Kohen Zedek) Kooper is a metal worker which hides the "Kippur" like in Yom Kippur(Atonement). All J names."Rahmim Emmanuel" (Rahmim is "forgiveness".Emmanuel is "with G-D")

  • @RasMajnouni Thanks for that enlightenment. I have already studied some languages, and I want to study some non-indo-european ones next year, like Hebrew, Japanese, Tagalog or Thai. Cheers.

  • Al Kooper sings really good, especially in this song.

  • Al was an under-appreciated talent.

  • Too bad he only made one album with Blood, Sweat and Tears. I never realized he was the same guy that sang both this song and I Can't Quit her.

  • The very same.

  • @Stacela they still used his songs even though he wasnt in the group anymore just as pink floyd relied on syd barrett for material everyone looks back and releazies what is the groups best album even if it wasnt the biggest sellar a saucer full of secrets is the best and child is fartherto the man is the best .

  • @Stacela They pushed him out of the group murry the k used to play this song

  • the same al kooper that discovered and produced lynyryrd skynyryd?

  • I believe so.

  • @garageband66 Right. That was definitely him.

  • @saltwaterebel yeah, the same one .... one of the most under-appreciated muscians of the past 50 years ...

  • @saltwaterebel And the same Al Kooper that discovered and lobbied for release of The Zombies' Odessey and Oracle! Yes, a very influential person in music history, in many ways.

  • *****

  • No time like the right time.... to light a spliff!

  • I have their 3 original albums on vinyl

  • Hang on to them.

  • Is Steve kats singing this?

  • I'm thinking Al Kooper being as it was his choice to record it on the album "Projections".

  • it is Al but it wasnt on projections it was on live at town hall which was really live at town hall and hunter college they did two concerts in the same day with two sets of equipment

  • Supposedly, there was a studio version of it slated for that album. It never made the cut because of the success of the live version according to some research I found online, but you know how that goes.

  • Comment removed

  • @garageband66 Sorry to bring this up after a year, but that story doesn't sound right at all. No Time Like The Right Time was a single that was written and recorded after Projections was released. The version on Town Hall is the single with applause added.

  • @garageband66 murry the k played this on worfm he was an mc at some of their concerts

[there is an interesting undercurrent with this because some people think the first folf rock record is I aint marching anymore by phil ochs backed by the blues project only available on a sound sheet and murry the k played that too ] .

  • I'd buy the "Best Of Blues Project" album seen at 1:15 if it were in print. Ah well it's the record company's loss!

  • You might find it through Amazon or Sundazed or another dealer! There are some good used copies somewhere.

  • Wow, I've never seen a video of them performing this song.

  • Steve's song. I want Steve's Song.

  • you want the MP3 of Steve's Song?

  • Yes please!

  • I would have chosen another tune...Caress me baby or Two Trains Running but a nice montage nonetheless. In my humbe opinion Steve Katz was one of the least talented, Kooper, Kulberg & Kalb were the heart and soul of the Band and Blumenfeld picked up the bottom.

  • Ladies and Gentlemen, The Blues Project... Steve Latz introducting the Band on their album Best of the Blues Project. Great music always

    remembered

  • this band was far and away the most underrated band of the time...awesome doesnt even begin to decribe them...they had it all fabulous voices, harmonies and the musicianship..almost unparralled....

  • They were up there on my list too!

  • Projections and Child is Father to the Man are my 2 desert island discs. Maybe Beethoven's Fifth as my third.

    Al Kooper 4ever !

  • Should have been a bigger hit than it was.

  • awesome
