@Starfyre05: The "dubbed" version in the film is of the YOUNG Baby Jane Hudson, played by a child star who could not sing Bette DID sing THIS version.
Whats this woman been smoking that would make her think she could really make a comeback, who in thier right mind would actually pay money to listen to this,I think the man would be better off just playing his piano without her.
I haven't seen this since I was around 9, just watched it again last week and now I love it again. I was home from school this weekend and I started singing this song. Then my sister Emily came in and said "Jeez Nell, you're not gonna make me Blanche are you? Seriously, that is scary good." Then I ran into my room, came out and told her to close her eyes and hold out her hand. I said "I don't have any rats but I do have this, enjoy." Then when she dropped it I said "No, not my rubber roachie!"
This is movie gold right here...the song is kinda creepy though...but it doesnt get any better than Joan Crawford and Bette Davis...talk about a sibling rivalry!
omg,i read the credits and the voice was dubbed ,that was not bettie singing, damn, after all these years thinking it was hers, lipsynicing is everywhere, she could act for ass off,the song is not that hard for to do,the singer who did it sounded like davis, would sound if she did it on her own,oh snap
Buono is indeed masterful with facial expressions and Bette is at her maniacal best here. She wales like a howling tomcat you would through a boot at and I know that my gut will hurt at :46 every time.
Seriously,I don't get scared when watching gory movies like Saw or that girl coming from the well stuff. I just watch this and it gives me the creeps. This never fails to scare the shit outta me. My favorite movie <3 I love Bette Davis
I always found this segment rather distasteful a woman who is obviously seriously mentally ill and nobody tries to help her. I know its just a movie just really offended me.
Only the greatest actress of all time, Bette Davis, could make an absolutely mesmerizing performance out of such a grotesque character. No actress will ever equal her talent.
@DiabolicalAngel BD always had very nice legs and according to Jack Warner, a nice set of "bulbs". I read she gained weight for this film because her character needed to be heavier than she was in real life but she knew she had to dance in the film and she wouldn't be able to do it well if she was padded so she gained weight. The weight went to her waist not her legs. Look up her "This is your Life" episode which was done a few years after this and she is definitely thinner.
Ms Bette Davis in her finest, even out of key, she was fantastic, aided in this classical miscue by Victor Buono, and looking on in horror, Ms Joan Crawford; when I first heard the big cheese was gonna' put this movie on, I thought it was impossible, shows you what I know, correct. Thank you withlotsabutta for posting this classic.

By far, one of the creepiest saddest flicks ever put onto celluloid. Both ladies were magnificent, scary, brilliant and emotional. What a film. This song still strikes the fear of god in me!
@darthsentinel I could have sworn I saw this very woman working in the business class section on an american airlines flight from Los Angeles to New York last week.
I gotta tell you - I absolutely love this movie and both Davis and Crawford were marvelous, but Victor Buono nearly steals the film. He was sensational!
This gripping psychological thriller from 1962, I saw many years ago.
Jane is a spoiled brat. Her father met her every wish. There is even a "Baby Jane" doll. With her jealous sister Blanche problems arise.
In the living room, she sings her signature song from when she was a little girl, “I’ve Written a Letter to Daddy.” But when she gets a look at herself in the mirror and sees what time and age has done to her, she screams
As wonderful as Bette is in this sequence, credit must also be given to the guy playing the pianist. The combo of his fake sycophancy and the sickened looks he gives when playing the song speak volumes. The scene wouldn't be half as great if not punctuated by his extraordinary facial expressions.
Lol im a teen and i love Bette Davis ,Me and my friends had a sleepover last night and we were watching this movie ,we went through being scared, laughing and being sad. and whoever is arguing about Joan and Bette are stupid, they are both one of the best actresses hollywood ever had, both icons. But i prefer Bette because she was such a unique and original and even though it should be all about the art,i like Bette Davis more as a person as well.
it funny because the acters actually apparently hated eachother! so in the scenes where janes going mental she actually enjoyed it LOL!! but it was joan crawford who was the mean one.
@poetinelkridge Nah. More like grossed out at the sight of a woman of mature years in heavy pancake makeup dressed as a five year old singing a twee children's song in an artless and corny manner.
@PaulDeLaWare I agree. I always loved Bette Davis but she went way up in my estimation as a person when I found out she was the only white member of an all-black, all star, entertainment tour group who entertained the black soldiers during the World War 2 I believe. The Army was segregated then. MUCH respect.
