I haven't seen this since I was around 9, just watched it again last week and now I love it again. I was home from school this weekend and I started singing this song. Then my sister Emily came in and said "Jeez Nell, you're not gonna make me Blanche are you? Seriously, that is scary good." Then I ran into my room, came out and told her to close her eyes and hold out her hand. I said "I don't have any rats but I do have this, enjoy." I read she gained weight for this film because her character needed to be heavier than she was in real life but she knew she had to dance in the film and she wouldn't be able to do it well if she was padded so she gained weight. The weight went to her waist not her legs. Look up her "This is your Life" episode which was done a few years after this and she is definitely thinner.

It's amazing what she did with a little make-up! Bette was actually quite a beautiful woman! This is obvious in her early work, before she started using the "crazy lady" make-up!
