Ed has an amazing voice- aside from the album version this is the best version i have ever heard of this song- Im having a nostalgic day and this song has been the cherry on the cake!

i have heard this song many times but never realized the name of the band is called live. i have never heard of the name of this band before. what is this song about. i can tell its about some1 dying but who??
Believe me I know wikipedia ain't gospel, but this is their story and I guess they're stickin to it:
The band dedicated the song to Barbara Lewis, a 19 year-old friend of the band who was killed in 1993 by a drunk driver who was fleeing from the police after a robbery in York, Pennsylvania. Barbara had many of her organs donated including a liver to a 10 month old baby, and the song lyrics reflect how her death enabled others to continue living.
A long time ago when they 1st did the "mtv unplugged", Ed K. admitted that he was a bit leery of the whole "unplugged" setup. He never envisioned them selves as an acoustic-type band. It's nice to see that after all these years that they developed a kickin' "unplugged" sound.
OMG.. I have been looking on Youtube for the MTV Unplugged version. I had it on VHS... (back in the 90's)and lost it of course. loved that performance.. but I cant seem to find it again. Anyone have it,please post it.. :)
MTV Unplugged and VH1 Storytellers both yielded a fantastic archive of music - but sadly, much of it doesn't seem to be available on YouTube. Both were favorite archives of music for me. They included some great bands, pared down to the basics. Every band, no matter what style they were, was appealing to a broad range of fans. I hope these broadcasts will return!

I was so disappointed when they came to Maine at Orono university,I had a serious operation and couldnt make it.... bummer!..
Some people have said they don't like this version but I have to say there's some things about it that I love, just the way some parts are sung differently. Love their songs so much, I wanna make a video clip to this song if I get the chance.
Does anybody know about a recording they made in Australia, I guess the cd is called The Accoustic Sessions (it has 6 songs) Could anyone confirm that, tnks!
This was on the radio when, in 1995, my wife and I were racing to the hospital to have our first child. It did not frighten us, but was considered a good omen. To this day, when I hear it I get chills. Our baby was born with the cord around her neck. The doctor looked up at me with concern, and I held my wife's hand tighter, saying "Honey, there's a problem." I lived in The US for a year & was insulted by the propaganda your schools are teaching you about WW2.The US only got involved because your harbour got bombed.I am not dissing the Americans for the sake of it I HAVE LIVED IT.Tony Blair is the worst thing to happen to Britain he had his head so far up Bushs ass he couldnt see that he was leading his men in to a battle that would never be won in Iraq.
I am insulted that you call me a hippy I have a job and know protesting achieves nothing.
Roosevelt gave a speech encouraging alliance in case of world war in 37, began selling arms to Britain in 39, provided naval assistance in 40 and signed the Lend Lease Act in early 41. Pearl Harbor served as a catalyst for arousing public opinion to war, much as 9/11. I learned all this in American schools. Blair is gone, and so will be Bush, and terrorists will still be around. They certainly aren't ghosts and you are a fool to believe otherwise.
I know terrorists aren't ghosts but since 9/11 Bush has got the American public in to such a state of fear, yet they are the least likely to be affected by terrorist attacks. I am impressed that your school has given you a good education on the war. When schooled in the US I was forced to sit & listen to a tirade about how the US saved our asses and there was little mention of Pearl Harbour as the cause of the US involvement.
I watch the US from Canada and my interest in world history, political/economic theory confirm what the world now knows; fools led to believe a stateless band of poorly armed religious kooks posed a greater threat to your life than when 1000's of Cold War nukes placed you, your entire nation, it's flag, borders..all but it's memory only 1/2 hr. from death. But /now/ you NEED to torture, deny habeas, etc. That's Insane!
Big Building fall down go boom! Grown men piss pants like little girls, give away freedom, reputation, devastate own economy including that of their childrens while screaming "Please Mr. President! It used to over 3 times, but the "War on Terror" has increased the likelihood of another attack. Yet I'm the fool? ROFL
if tou like this then you should buy awake the best of live. Its seriously the best album ever. It also has a bonus cd with videos and an interview with ed.
this would be one of the top 10 songs of all time if he didn't talk about placenta falling on the floor. great song, but that part really puts gross images in my head.
Why does that bother you...it happens, it's the imagery that the song creates that give it meaning, in this case I saw a young mother giving birth before the doctor could get to her.
hey check my music out on my channel

this would be one of the top 10 songs of all time if he didn't talk about placenta falling on the floor. great song, but that part really puts gross images in my head.

i second that...lol

Why does that bother you...it happens, it's the imagery that the song creates that give it meaning, in this case I saw a young mother giving birth before the doctor could get to her.
