  • Btw, this is about a friend of theirs that died because of a drunk driver. She donated her organs and saved a 10 month old baby.

  • Recorded in the studio's of Brussels!!

  • what is that keyboard???!!

  • I love how the dong "dips" as it enters the chorus at 4:16 - hard to explain it just sounds great

  • You gotta love it when the dong dips....there's nothing better than a dipping dong....I'm sorry but that's one of the funniest typos I've encountered.

Glad you're still enjoying it. :-)

  • @vodkaa1

I had this version on a cd a friend burnt for me years ago. What live performance is this? I've tried most of the versions on limewire, but i've had no luck...

  • love this song man

  • i have heard this song many times but never realized the name of the band is called live. i have never heard of the name of this band before. what is this song about. i can tell its about some1 dying but who??

  • The song was written about a woman who had a baby and because of her age, she died and the baby lived. The lyrics are really touching.

  • Believe me I know wikipedia ain't gospel, but this is their story and I guess they're stickin to it:

The band dedicated the song to Barbara Lewis, a 19 year-old friend of the band who was killed in 1993 by a drunk driver who was fleeing from the police after a robbery in York, Pennsylvania. Barbara had many of her organs donated including a liver to a 10 month old baby, and the song lyrics reflect how her death enabled others to continue living.

  • they gave a few of these details at a show several years ago. so it's pretty accurate. this version is incredible!

  • no, its more about the cycle of life, and as a new baby is born, an old woman passes away.

  • that's what it's about, but the background of the song lies in the comment above.

  • This song has to be about about reincarnation. Fits so perfectly.

  • nice glasses

  • best version of this song i have heard so far.

  • this song makes me sadd i cant belive its based ona true story, and about the death :(.. but i still love this song!!!

  • No. This is the band "Live" & their album is called "Throwing Copper".

Look things up before you start trying to sound clever man.

    Incredible song/band.

    Peace x.

  • A long time ago when they 1st did the "mtv unplugged", Ed K. admitted that he was a bit leery of the whole "unplugged" setup. He never envisioned them selves as an acoustic-type band. It's nice to see that after all these years that they developed a kickin' "unplugged" sound.

  • OMG.. I have been looking on Youtube for the MTV Unplugged version. I had it on VHS... (back in the 90's)and lost it of course. loved that performance.. but I cant seem to find it again. Anyone have it,please post it.. :)

  • I've had the unplugged version up, but unfortunately MTV seems to remove most versions that is uploaded. Bummer, I know.

  • MTV Unplugged and VH1 Storytellers both yielded a fantastic archive of music - but sadly, much of it doesn't seem to be available on YouTube. Both were favorite archives of music for me. They included some great bands, pared down to the basics. Every band, no matter what style they were, was appealing to a broad range of fans. I hope these broadcasts will return!

  • Hey guys hope you enjoy my acoustic version of this song!

  • can any1 help me? i first heard this song on a cd and live were playing in front of an audience. Its the version that i fell in love with if any1 knows were i can get it or any info would be much appreciated!!!

  • LIVE <3

Imho one of the best ever written.

  • i agree, easily.

  • Does anybody know about a recording they made in Australia, I guess the cd is called The Accoustic Sessions (it has 6 songs) Could anyone confirm that, tnks!

  • Do you mean the bonus disk that was included with 'the Distance' cd?

It's called 'the Acoustic Sessions', has 5 songs on it.

It was recorded at Jet Studio's in Brussels, Belgium in April 2000.

The songs are: I Alone, The Dolphine's Cry, The Distance, Run to the Water, They stood up for love.

  • Yes, it´s that one. I have to get hold of it. I love the versions they made on those five songs in that cd. Thanks for the info!!!

  • This song makes me cry

  • this is a kick ass song

  • Great video, great song

  • This was on the radio when, in 1995, my wife and I were racing to the hospital to have our first child. It did not frighten us, but was considered a good omen. To this day, when I hear it I get chills. Our baby was born with the cord around her neck. The doctor looked up at me with concern, and I held my wife's hand tighter, saying "Honey, there's a problem." The doc actually pushed Claire back inside a little and slipped the cord from around her neck! She popped out, and I cut the cord.

  • LOVE THIS SONG!!!

  • im so excited about seeing them on July 3rd, its going to be awesome

  • Railo is homo!!!!!!!!!

  • what are the cords that the guitarist is playing (not the singer)

  • is : eb tuning, F C G G THAT'S IT

  • same chords, different frets, with riffs as well

  • I love this band, especially this song. I wonder why they never took off in Britain?

  • Hmmm, good question! not much call for a band from York Pennsylvania in the UK I guess.

  • I hate to say it but the US knows good rock. There are few British bands that have really made an impact on me like Live.

  • that's kewl but...Live...is NOT a British band...they are from York, Pennsylvania..in the U.S. They are Americans.

  • I know, what I was saying was the British don't have the same impact when it comes to rock. In fact Rock music is the ONLY thing the americans have got right in the last 60 years.

  • Oh I see,you are 28 years old and that makes you an expert on Americans.I wish all 20 somethings would grow the fuck up and quit TRYING to be fucking hippies.IF IT WAS NOT FOR AMERICANS YOUR ASSES WOULD HAVE BEEN OWNED BY HITLER.Think about it.

  • I was very angry @ queenbeccis comment about Americans.I certainly did not mean ALL 20 somethings.Just the ones who are trying to re live the no job, let's protest, assholes trying to revive the 60s bullshit.

  • I also know that not everyone can be judged on their government. I am just angry that people I know & love are being killed because Bush is chasing the ghosts he calls terrorists just to protect his family's money. Your leader doesn't care about you and your soldiers, and neither does mine.

  • Hey,I dont totally 100% agree with you but you do sound like a smart person.I know everyone is entitled to their own beliefs.I apologize.Cheers to you!

  • Fair enough, I didn't mean to insult you, I am just angry at all the world leaders. Anyway, good taste in music!!

  • You are right about being angry.I think a lot of people are and some people, A.K.A. my dumbass, don't know how or where to vent it.I sure did not mean to insult you either.Have a great day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I lived in The US for a year & was insulted by the propaganda your schools are teaching you about WW2.The US only got involved because your harbour got bombed.I am not dissing the Americans for the sake of it I HAVE LIVED IT.Tony Blair is the worst thing to happen to Britain he had his head so far up Bushs ass he couldnt see that he was leading his men in to a battle that would never be won in Iraq.

I am insulted that you call me a hippy I have a job and know protesting achieves nothing.

  • Roosevelt gave a speech encouraging alliance in case of world war in 37, began selling arms to Britain in 39, provided naval assistance in 40 and signed the Lend Lease Act in early 41. Pearl Harbor served as a catalyst for arousing public opinion to war, much as 9/11. I learned all this in American schools. Blair is gone, and so will be Bush, and terrorists will still be around. They certainly aren't ghosts and you are a fool to believe otherwise.

  • I know terrorists aren't ghosts but since 9/11 Bush has got the American public in to such a state of fear, yet they are the least likely to be affected by terrorist attacks. I am impressed that your school has given you a good education on the war. When schooled in the US I was forced to sit & listen to a tirade about how the US saved our asses and there was little mention of Pearl Harbour as the cause of the US involvement.

  • By the way.I will miss Tony Blair.I think, just my opinion,he was a good leader.

  • Your country did not get terrorized.Ours did,we would protect you if the same thing happend to Canada. You are not a fool, you are a dumbass liberal.

  • They're incredible. I saw them performing live and they played so flawlessly, it sounded like I was listening to a CD.

  • this song is the fuckin best love it

  • great lyrics. great band

  • Awsome band. Awsome song.

  • Live is a great band of 90`s . I`m 32 now and remerber wen I bought this album in 94 when I was 19 .LIVE RULES

  • i saw him call down lightning last night with this song no lie :O

  • this man has a gifted voice

  • I think the MTV unplugged version is better, but this is ace too. Viva La LIVE!

  • I am going to see them tonight. YAY!

  • I agree, one of my all time favourites by my all time favourite band...and how hot is Ed?! wow... :) thankyou so much for posting.

  • by far the best version i've seen!!

  • damn i love this song thank-you

  • agreed, he sounds like what michael stipe would sound like, you know.. if michael stipe could actually sing..

  • ruuuuleeeeeees

  • This was already my favorite song but i like to watch the video......whered you get his?

  • lol kowalczyk transformed to moby!

sick song by the way. peace

  • é o cazé cantando?

  • this song kinda like the movie called "The Fountain"..except its not about a mother and a child...

  • if tou like this then you should buy awake the best of live. Its seriously the best album ever. It also has a bonus cd with videos and an interview with ed.

  • this would be one of the top 10 songs of all time if he didn't talk about placenta falling on the floor. great song, but that part really puts gross images in my head.

  • why does that part bother you?

  • i second that...lol

  • Why does that bother you...it happens, it's the imagery that the song creates that give it meaning, in this case I saw a young mother giving birth before the doctor could get to her.

  • Live rule!

  • I grew up hearing this song on the radio.. just heard it today and haddddd to watch a vid. very good song

  • An amazingly beautiful song!
