  • Aww the lucky ten-eleven ! R.I.P Tristar, love you !

  • It was Thai aircraft, Orient Thai Airlines, operated for Kampuchea Airlines and was shut down in 2004.

  • stupid khmer, china will eat you live

  • Awesome plane, awesome landing, awesome airport

  • Perfect landing. Must be a former CX pilot.

  • Good old kai tak... I miss you very much

  • Just an ex-Calthay bird flying back to its old nest! Both the L1011 and the DC10 are beautiful tri-jets.

  • yay not a crosswind

  • nice landing

  • The L-1011 is such a beautiful aircraft. Watching them flare before touchdown is always a treat, so soft and gentle. They are such graceful machines.

  • @phillyslasher You are so correct!!!!

  • もっと低く!!

  • Now that was greased :)

  • A Lockheed in her element. "Lockheed rides the airwaves with a thrust of bright propellers and the flash of gleaming wings and behind this Lockheed lies aviation history"

  • long ago but the vid loooks like you just took it a year ago!!

  • This video is more than 10 years old.

  • An interesting fact is that altough Kampuchea Airlines is an airline from Cambodia, the aircraft were based in BKK, due to the unstable political situation it's own country.

The tail of their L1011 reminds One- Two-Go Airlines, from Thailand.

  • @eh777 your are correct thai people called combodia kam-pu-cha and the tail has colour of the one to gos md-80s and the colours are from the thai flag

  • This bird was only coming home. Sold from Cathay to Kampuchea.

  • The L1011's flight control system had 'direct lift control' or DLC. When full flaps were selected for landing, the wing spoilers on the top of the wings would extend up. When the pilot pushed the control yoke forward to go down the spoilers would extend even more, or the reverse if he pulled up. The spoilers would retract. The result was pretty much a constant nose up attitude throughout the approach until late in the flare. Sweet!

  • @arkiedarkie thanks for the info, i didn´t know that convenience in it´s wings( for L-1011), was the best airliner ever made....

  • my grandmother cand land that.....i love kai tak....bring on the harsh weather.....!!!!!

  • Hmm. How about that.

  • Ahh yes but only the best of the best pilots allowed to land there, or the ones the airlines wanted killed off, and no Aeroflot allowed to land there, think ppl got sick of bits falling of em and ending up somewhere in the city.

  • It wasn't an very difficult airport if I look to the video's. I think I landed on airports who were even worse ;)

  • I hate Kai Tak. As a Hong Konger, I am ashamed of ever having had such a subpar facility for our otherwise excellent city. Chek Lap Kok is an immeasurably worthier gateway for our beloved HK.

  • @trent8002003 but it was interesting. No wonder people watch it so much on youtube and surly gives your city good exposure.

  • Thanks. Do visit HK is you haven't already done so. HK has lots to offer tourists!

  • @trent8002003 yeah, but kai-tak was the fun way lol

  • One of the most beautiful landings ever at Kai Tak!

  • It looks like a Thai plane to me. The tail of the plane has the Thai flag stripes.

  • its not thai plane its Kampuchea Airlines thai doesn't have l1011

  • How come the plane has Thai colors on it?

  • perfect!

  • What year was this video? The 1970s when Cambodia was Kampuchea and ruled by the infamous Khmer Rouge?

  • Love the L-1011 Tristar, prettiest bird in the sky. Was like the pretty sister of the MD-10.

Also love the old visual Kai Tak landing.

  • planes. too awesome for my genius mind.

  • The L-1011's Number 2 engine is set lower in behind the vertical stabilizer. There is no center main gear, and an MD-11 has winglets. Theres more to it, but kinda basics from external parts of the aircraft. Oh, and L-1011s have RR engines...prettier sound!

  • Hell ya the roar of the lion only rolls!

  • honestly how do u tell the diff between that, md-11 and dc-10

  • main difference is that you can see the whole engine on an MD-11 or DC-10. The L1011 has the #2 intake, but the engine itself is down at fuselage height. DC-10's don't all have center gear, only the DC-10-30's. Different nose too.

  • It's been years since I flew on an L-1011. I believe it was a Delta bird. What a effing great landing. Smooth as glass. Nice vid. 5*

  • A 380

  • yes thi is an A380

  • dude, you're a shit troll. give up

  • xD if i was your dad i wouldnt alow you to use the internet. its not good for you.

  • No, it's NOT an A-380.

  • Oh man this is Thai Airbus not from Cambodia. I'm sure cos i'm Cambodian. We used to have Royal Air Cambodge but it died many years ago. Now we have a new born airbus called Angkor Air started with local flights first before being flow across nations.

    :)

  • Nice capture. You can actually see the rapid movement of the horizontal stabilizer during the flare.

  • love tristars, used to watch them at manchester airport uk, british airtours livery...

  • 0:05

-Capt: hey dude gimme full flaps, btw check out this landing, it's gonna be awesome.

-FO: OK full flaps, let's see.

    1:05:

    Capt: Told ya.

    FO: Yup, pretty good landing.

  • Wow a tristar?

  • 現地の人 ベラベラベラベラ(何言ってるか わかんねが・・・)うるさい。

    飛行機のエンジン音が聞こえない。

    黙ってろ!!!

  • Good old time, the aircraft and airport were just perfect for us to remember the 80's Hong Kong movies.

  • Took him a while to touchdown there. Kudos to the pilots that were able to complete this landing.

  • This is an A380

  • Are you in crack? That is an L-1011. (HKG) Kai-Tak closed in 1999, and the A380 came out last year.

  • This is a hoot ...LOL

  • LOOOOOOL!!! its not a fucking A380 you stupid piece of fuck!! and its 1998! A380 is a new plane!!

  • LOL!!!!!!!

  • Indeed it is! And I'm Santa Claus, I ride a pink elephant, and I live in the magical faery land at the end of the rainbow!!!

  • lol wow man you dont know anything about airplanes. The L-1011 has 3 engines not 4 like the A-380. GOOGLE IT! lol >.> next thing you know you'll be calling 737's 747s!

  • It was a Government Airline operated by the CIA. It stopped operations in 1976 (I think), so I don't see how you flew SFO-HNL on it then.

  • NIce LAnding

  • Cambodia!!! woo lol

  • how are you sure that is an asian pilot, because the plane flew into a hong kong airport? would that mean that only black pilots fly planes to africa? just trying to understand your point....

  • umm... here are some facts for you: Kampuchea Airlines was a government run airline. Back then Cambodia was run by an oppressive regime. It was one of the poorest countries in the region. So why would a western pilot, live in a country worse off than (present)zimbabwe at the time, and fly for their national airline. The Khmer Government would probably not even hire u unless you were a national of Kampuchea. (A lot like what SQ pulls today)

  • Wow....very good landing

  • FedEx actually uses a lot of MD-11's and MD-10's (DC-10 with avionics upgrade). Similar to the L-1011 in the general design, but much different. All 3 of those planes I just mentioned have the 3 engine design as seen in this video.

  • and fed ex use to fly the 727

  • great landing really smooth....

  • how is that safe

  • The 1011 is an OLD bird. Lockheed stopped manufacturing planes at LEAST a generation ago. These three-engine planes nearly are extinct! They are fuel consumers.

  • they look like md 11s or dc 10s

  • That was a truly beautiful piece of work in a truly beautiful bird. Take notes, folks: that's how you spank a landing at Kai Tak.

  • L10-11 you don't see much of those at all

  • where in the tri star is the tail engine located because the exhaust duct is a gd 6-7ft below the intake i havent looked at the tri star bt i think that the tail engine is inline with the body and the intake above it the air is then ducted down to the compressers does any1 no if this is right?????

  • it's not good when birds are flying that close to the airport...bird+engine=big trouble

  • I heard that Delta Airlines was the only airline in the world that had the most L-1011's.

  • ATA also had a lot

  • Former Delta birds

  • this is a old airplane ,

what year u taken this video ?

  • Is the L1011 still in commercial service? I have'nt seen any at the airports.

  • My favourite passenger plane. Pity more weren't made; so much better than the crappy DC-10.

  • maybe you are the retard brainwashed

did you saw some video of 9/11 on the news?

do you think the media can create a false huge hole on the side of a building with tons of fake smoke getting out of it?

not to mention four planes disappeard and all the people inside dead in the same day

  • ok, the WTC were hit by planes, but were they ones they claimed them to be?

Also, the Pentagon, that situation has more crap in it, than a cow's ass.

Mutually frank is the same, for Flight 93, nothing at those two sites, resembles a plane crash, they find more airplane looking pieces at the WTC, and that situation is far more hostile in terms of what happened to the planes, than was the pentagon or shanksville.

  • not only that but they would have to bring the towers down! Don't listen to these people, they are obviously in need of mental help.

  • You are out of your mind dude.

  • nice

  • super skill

  • what is that on the tail? looks like an engine/.? weird. great vdeio t

  • Yes it is the #2 engine. Search wikipedia for L-1011.

  • thats incredible, never seen that before thanx

  • the MD 11 and DC 10 have the same thing

  • Well they're all trijets (DC-10, MD-11, L-1011) but that's like saying that the 737 and a320 are the same because they are twinjets. They are very different aircraft, as the MD-11 and DC-10 are.

  • I know i was just saying those two planes both are tri jets, because he said he has never seen that before

  • ok youmust not understand what im trying to say here. Im not stupid, I know that, i was merely giving him more examples of planes that happen to be Tri jets, i was not saying they are the same I said the HAVE the same thing going on. you know?

  • oh, sorry, I didn't realiz that you were replying to someone. Sorry :)

  • lol its cool

  • 摁安垮鬼

  • that's a nice greaser landing! 10 stars!

  • God, that's pretty. Nice landing too :-)

  • damn that plane was nice. I miss my baby

  • Excelent, landing, It looks hard to land there.

  • nice plane, hard to land in flight sim.
