All right. My philosophy is, partly, that there is no right and wrong. Interpret that however you wish. What it means, partly, is that i won't claim you're wrong. Meanwhile, i'm not an idiot. My head is not up my arse. Whatever you want to call it - global warming, climate change, climate destabilization, - it is a scientific matter. Not a political one. To me, that explicitly means our opinions are precisely worthless. It's not up to us to decide if it's happening.
@2hlwf8 Now we're talking. Climate change is an inevitable natural fact - a cycle of nature, if you like. Politicians and some 'scientists' are trying to turn profit by making out that we could have any control over it , which we can not.
So, it's a bit of a superfluous science at best because we still cannot predict the weather patterns with any degree of accuracy.
@Wobbinwood: Who are we to decide what science is superfluous? I think the LHC is superfluous but on it goes. So what? There's Science and pseudo-science. Groups of tens of thousands of PhDs are SCIENCE. When those groups make statements, (see NAS and AAAS) it's a pretty safe bet that they know what they're talking about. When you type 'scientists' (in quotes like that) you imply pseudo-science which is meaningless to this debate.
@Wobbinwood Those groups, NAS and AAAS, among many others of the most credible organizations on Earth, say that it is most likely that we can and are having a dramatic effect on Earth's climate. Those are not political organizations. They're collectively the smartest people alive. I'd rather trust them than any politically influenced group anywhere, nevermind the opinions of regular individual people such as ourselves.
@Wobbinwood Politically, i'm all for low taxes and small government. Before cutting defense and research... i'd cut corn subsidies and corporate tax benefits. Don't even get me started on the banks.
Oh and predict the weather? Can we predict the outcome of a single coin toss? Even odds, right, more or less? Predicting climate is more like predicting 1,000,000 coin flips. Even odds for individual events, but safe to predict an even split between heads and tails, +/- a few percent.
So you're using data provided you by the government to prove the government is lying about the data they're bringing you?
Meanwhile, are you a climate scientist? Maybe you have a PhD in some area of atmospheric science. Or maybe you're a conspiracy theorist who says that the government that couldn't run a coffee shop can somehow carry out a mass deception complex enough to fool the most prestigious scientific associations on Earth. I bet you're somewhere in between but certainly no expert.
Actually, you have to be an idiot to still believe in the global warming hoax for a few simple reasons. The earth is actually cooling so the fraudsters had to change the name to climate change. The "scientists" who got it started have been caught falsifying and destroying data. And the final proof it is a fraud is that the proposed solution is high taxes.
Answer these questions for me. How much would the proposed taxes on carbon emissions amount to in $US? How much is the current national debt? ... national deficit? what does the federal gov't do for us? how is all that paid for? what spending programs would you cut to balance the budget? dissolution of the federal gov't? What does all that have to do with the laws of physics? Why does taking climate change seriously make anyone an idiot? What are your qualifications?
@2hlwf8 Thanks for taking the time to watch the video and comment. You are right; I am not a climate expert. I teach school. A few years back, I decided to see if there was a place I could go to see if the planet was really warming.
@2hlwf8 Also, looking at the raw data, it is difficult for me to get terrified of a single degree change over 120 years when the average temperature in the U.S. dropped by over a full degree in the last 2 years. (Quite often when I watch the Phoenix weather, it will show up to a 5 degree change from one part of the greater Phoenix area to another at the exact same time. I think I would be hard pressed to actually notice a 1 degree change up or down in the room I am in right now.)
You're clearly a reasonable man. Political ideologies aside, the climate change debate is important and as i noted, it is a scientific issue. If you are so inclined, i'd point you to the account of wonderingmind42. He's a regular guy like us who went over the edge producing a very well designed, if crudely produced, argument for taking action on climate change. In total, it's several hours of vids that address about every legit criticism of taking action.
@2hlwf8 It just seems very possible that global warming / climate change caused by greenhouse gasses may not be the scary monster it has been portrayed to be. The big scare is especially suspect when those portraying it stand to make enormous sums of money if everyone believes it.
Positively, it's possible that the climate is not changing or that it's changing but not because of people. However, and i have researched this at length, the vast majority of truly credible scientific research on this purely scientific issue, indicates that it is much - that is, Much - more likely that it is changing,, that we're responsible, the results will be very bad for us, and we can mitigate the effects if we act soon.
This is a GREAT vid. I presumed it was true, but I never paid too much mind to the Global Warming issue until I one of my college courses had us watch Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth" in class. That movie really freaked me out, so I started doing a lot of research on the issue only to begin concluding that Global Warming was somewhat of a hoax. The more I researched, the more I disbelieved the "Global Warming Scare". This is a simple, yet very truth-telling vid. Hard to dispute the raw data.
@DeadCenter007 Yes it's a GLOBAL money-making scheme perpetrated by the biggest governments in the world for financial and political gain - nothing else

@2hlwf8 P.S. Without the hype of global warming and doomsday prophets this 'science' would have had no funding at all

The mainstay of the "science' of global warming is based on ASSUMPTIONS!!!! and not facts

@Wobbinwood
What is the basis of your assertion? What assumptions are those, exactly?

@2hlwf8 I used to be curious as to what governments had to gain by trying to scare everyone. Cap N Trade has answered that curiosity for me.
Please understand, I am not in favor of dirty air, or dirty water, or trash everywhere.
