  • Whatever! Up to tempo marches make my day!

  • Marched to this as a Freshman, and also a first time flute. I play oboe as my concert horn, but oboes don't march and it's military so I took on flute.

Actually, we should be on here so if ya wanna check us out try Ennis High School 2010-2011 UIL contest. We did rotating boxes, I have yet to understand how we didn't advance but all well. :)

  • I have to play this this year should be fun... T-Bone for the win.

  • I love this march. @wranglersport - This is the Eastman Wind Ensemble . Of course they're going to play it crazy fast. Tthey do that because they can.

It's still an awesome march at a slower, more marchable tempo. It's also so memorable that I went look for it even though I have not played it in 25+ years.

Also @wranglersport, I decided today to name my Unlimited Rubicon "Invictus". How awesome is that?

  • When we played this we did it at 146 bpm in cut time... 192 bpm on the quarter note.

  • San benito should totally play this.... GO GRAYHOUNDS!!!!

  • my 2A band marched to this and we got straight ones

  • This is a CIRCUS march. The Tempo is correct

  • karl king can only make one song beat why wont he change it?

  • @lego2815

Maybe because he died 40 years ago?

This march was written in 1956...

  • My band director told us in a couple of years we will be playing this for a Concert Contest. The whole band was like yeah right. We are a AA school out in the middle of no where. Got sweepstakes last year.

  • We had to make up and lead a drill at Drum Major camp to this march. I play clarinet and I played this for my final chair test last year. Got first chair. =]

  • i was a high school band march to this at this speed and they did amazing... outta texas i believe, so great....

  • Future U.I.L. March... About this tempo. Kind of nervous...

  • @ZackCochran holy crap dude good luck man that will be a very fun and challenging march

  • the clarinets in this march are so awesome!! very well articulated

  • @dataro93 of course, Eastman wouldnt have it any different...

  • Euphonium killed my chops after this haha

  • Jus like a spanish passo doble

  • We were going to play this for Midwest, but we were told this week that he have too many difficult pieces compared to our easier selections. DX So now we're playing The Klaxon...but I love this one sooo much more! Absolutely amazing.

  • I love this March!=D

  • wery good....

  • My great grandparents knew him :) I live in FD

  • Karl King wrote that song for my high school. Henderson High School in East Texas. We march to it every year.

  • I remember playing it at Carthage High in East Texas.

  • @wyldemannx My band director (T. Moore) went to Carthage and graduate from there

  • @ls15236 I'm from Henderson and I am in the high school band this year. Im a freshman this year. Are you still here in Henderson or have you graduated?

  • @ls15236 I'm from Henderson and I am in the high school band this year. Im a freshman this year. Are you still here in Henderson or have you graduated? I was just wondering if you were still here lol

  • i noticed that there aren't videos playing karl king's henderson field go to my channel to see it

  • I played this on clarinet in high school it was a lot of fun, we received superior ratings in concert contest

  • OMG We are playing this at our Music Festival! ^^ it's so fun to play =D Bass Euphonium Oh Yeah! :D

  • @footballtubadude Euphonium, 6th one out of 6 =P me and 5ht chair had to play a octave lower and we were labled bass euphoniums =P

  • these were recorded of the eastman school of music on an album entitled screamers back in the early 60's..i was in college at the time and had the album..we use to put the record on slow to see if the trombones were getting all the notes..THEY WERE!!!!

  • Preformed on field by The Camden High School Band, Camden, Arkansas in 1975. Superior Rating. Ron Allen Director.

  • Rolling Thunder is superior to this song. xD

  • @PR3ST0N333

Rolling Thunder was written by Fillmore....you can't compare the two. This is my favorite King march, while Rolling Thunder is my favorite Fillmore march.

  • Our College performed this song, and on the last refrain of the melody....we basically went as fast as we can....it was AWESOME

  • omg were playing this song for contest and i love it !!!!! its soo fun!!!!!!!

  • omg we're playing this in band. i LOVE it! it's fun to march! of course, we aren't at this tempo, haha, but it's an awesome song to play and march. i'm on first saxophone as a freshman ^_~

  • God, this march is so awesome. Playing it for this year's march, as well as Chimes of Liberty. That combo is like a fatality to a baritone like me. Lips almost explode after running Invictus a few times.

  • This piece is fun......especially the obligato with the Clarinets.....those intervals....like a little etude in a march.....

  • i would hate to march to this tempo

  • @wranglersport11 But that would be fun though =P if you were not a clarinet or flute =P

  • @wranglersport11

You wouldn't march to this tempo. The word "march" has been applied to this genre of music because it originated from an actual march, but these particular types of march were just written to get circus audiences riled.

  • @wranglersport11 This is about 120. 120 is marching tempo.

  • @wranglersport11 Its just 120. It only sounds fast cause King writes everything in cut time.

  • @TheFlamingSparrow

2/4 time to be exact. Sousa writes in 2/2.

  • Yeah, but most of it is so fast that it's conducted and played as if it were in cut time.

  • @TMNoob3 I have a copy of the score, it's definitely cut common time. Not 2/4.

  • @oldhornyman

    bah!

memory is a little fuzzy about it

    cut time is correct

  • @TheFlamingSparrow no thats way faster than 120

  • I played this in my band my 11th grade year, this is the best I ever heard this song played

  • We played this last year in my high school band. That trio is crazy fast for a clarinet..(I was a 2nd clarinet).

  • Obligato- blah! Its so hard, but a ton of fun once you get it down.

  • yeaaaahhh we totally played this for contest when i was in high school!! STRAIGHT ONES BABY! ^_^ lol im such a band nerd.

  • i play this song
