Another thing, it makes you wonder where the head space is of all the massive vehicle corporations of the world, with their billions of dollar budgets, can't do what a few guys in their home garrage can do.

I think the fact is that they CAN do it, but there is so much more money to be made in the mean time with petrol and hybrid vehicles.

i.e. If there is $X trillion dollars left in the ground to be made, why waste the opportunity eh? (note a hint of sarcasm has been added).
