  • Ninchick40 thank you so much for the translation, I have been wondering about it since I first saw this movie when it was first released, Baryshnikov is my idol, he's the best.

  • is like he were on ice.

  • @kjsh987 Yeah it was like he was ice skating wtf?? he's amazing!!! perfect!!!

  • You are never late arriving if you visit the Almighty,

Why, then, are the angels singing with their voices, vexed and frightful?

Or, perhaps, it is the harness bells so deep in sobbing drown,

Or, perhaps, it’s me who’s begging flying horses to slow down?

Don’t you fly so fast, my horses, slow - to a trot not so brisk!

Don’t concede to the whip, to the thong!

But my horses are so wayward, being so hard to please,

Leaving me no time for a life, for a song...

  • Don’t you fly so fast, my horses, slow - to a trot not so brisk!

Don’t concede to the whip, to the thong!

But my horses are so wayward, being so hard to please,

Leaving me no time for a life, for a song...

I will let horses drink, I will die in a wink,

So before I might sink Let me sing On the brink...

  • I will let horses drink, I will die in a wink,

So before I might sink Let me sing On the brink...

I will perish: like a feather off the hand I will be blown,

In the sleigh my steeds will drag me on a bleak and cold morning...

Don’t you run so fast, my horses, slow down, make it slow!

To my last resort don’t hurry, please, prolong the final journey!

  • Wayward horses There’s a precipice beside me. On the brink of it I’m driving In a sleigh that’s pulled by horses - I am whipping, I am lashing; I drink mist and gulp the currents - hard against the wind I’m striving And enjoy a nasty feeling: “There’s my end where I am dashing!” Don’t you fly so fast, my horses, slow - to a trot not so brisk! Don’t concede to the whip, to the thong! But my horses are so wayward, being so hard to please, Leaving me no time for a life, for a song...
  • I have seen the movie and keep on watching it from time to time. This is one of the parts that is beyond amazing!

  • why the heck is it showing Helen crying, when i watched this for the first time i was like "WHAT ARE YOU DOING!! WE"RE MISSING THE DANCE!!!"

  • @loulie1997

She knew the dance, knew what he was doing, knew how good he was. So good,

  • Baryshnikov stole these moves from me, this is how I dance like in my bed, every time I wake up in the morning

  • прекрасный танец, а Высоцкий гинеален

  • He is tge main reason I stick to dancing

  • yeah!! go Mishka!!

  • Does anyone know what the turning jump at 1:30 is called

  • @Maher890 i think its called divine...

  • просто глаз не оторвать от этого танца... совершенно неподражаемо!

  • Гениально!!!

  • Esta canción es de VISOSKI.

    ¿Verdad?

    Dasdivania.

  • Rhythmic gymnastics and Vysotsky.

    Ритмическая гимнастика и Высоцкий.

  • GENIE!!!!!!!!!! Vulkan emozij!!!!!!!

  • Beautiful!!!! Schöne Komposition!!!! Perfekt!!!!! Stark!!!! Очень сильно, выразительно!!!!!! Прекрасно!!!!!!

  • Jeez, really? So many here do not know how to watch a movie that sparks their interest. At the end are credits which list every person, music, choreographer, etc. I think of the song in this vid as the horse song because I am American and cannot fully appreciate it because I am not fluent in Russian. But it hits me in so many ways, much like opera that I also am not fluent in but garner the general idea.

  • He's wonderful!!

  • is it Ghaoosho da fronteira who sings nice song?

  • @guimbadriver

No, it is the Russian protestsinger Vladimir Vyssotski (dead a long time)

  • When I was little, my grandmother always used to have my brothers and I watch this video about the Trans-Siberian Railroad, and this guy's music was the background of a few scenes. His voice used to scare the hell out of me.

  • hello everybody, well i love this song, but i can't find it, does anybody know from where can i download it, i just wanna the song as an mp3, not the video thanks

and sorry if my english is not very good, i'm mexican

Saludos.

  • @juanitoye do a youtube search for ´Высоцкий - Кони привередливые мехико¨ and you can see this song in better quality sound with spanish subtitles.

  • Bet you didn't know that Helen Mirren was Russian, did you? She is!

  • Weeping with joy is the only appropriate emotional response to witnessing Baryshnikov dance.

  • He dances with feeling!A great truth!

  • vladimir Vysostsky, fue a tu pais y tu mama se lo dejo caer?

  • OOOh! that hurts when he dances on the tops of his toes.

  • I LOVE THIS<.. I AM HE WHO WROTE THE SCORE < WHO BEGGED FOR MORE< FROM A gOD with little love,.. i M he who shook with rage and love,.. begging for his life,.. the love is forever,.. my horses now run free !

  • Fucking impressive. <3

  • beast.

  • great feeling in the dance!

  • vladimir Vysostsky es mi papá

  • Meaning to say, Mikhail Baryshnikov is sexy and hot - a ladies point of view

  • Hot, hot, hot!!! A woman's point of view. Sexy and hot!

  • @scyballet Well, both Baryshnikov and Vysotsky were alpha-males.

  • Does anyone know where to find this particular recording of the song? I know it's Capricious Horses by Vladimir Vysotskii

  • DRAMATICO...DOLOROSO...IMPACTANTE A LA VEZ INCREIBLE

  • Даже не просто талант, а поэтический гений уровня Шекспира!

  • "We are on time, it is not the custom to be late when visiting God..." Only this single line shows Vysotski`s brilliance in poetry! He was a talent born once in a thousand years!

  • love, love

  • albertw666

Yeah, i agree. It was the whole situation in his life, that run out of control. The government was against him, and didn't let him sing his songs and play in movies. Visotskiy had his wife living in another country, and he couldn't see her for long periods. His health was ruined by drugs and alchohol. He also loved fast racing, and got more than into 10 serious car crashes, in which he didn't die by miracle. In fact he played with death... and may be this song is also about that

  • @TheHATECORE yup, I think so too. Vlad was really an amazing musician. This amazing song with the virtuosism of Baryshnikov was a big shot to the heart....

  • Невероятно. Incredibly !

  • обалдеть как много людей со всего мира его любят!

  • M.Baryshnikov he is the best dancer in the world!, instensely graceful and still so ingredibly maskuline.

    Very nice video.

  • hes only the best because g.hines is deceased.

  • I've always loved this dance. Does anyone know who choreographed this?

  • @Jayjen35 As far as i know (or as far as a russian newspaper i read, knows it) the piece was choreographed by US choreographer Twyla Tharp. They collaborated quite a lot in 70s and 80s.

  • OMG I love the song. I don't understand the words but to me sounds like what the singer is saying comes from the heart. Its a beautiful song. IMO

  • And this is why he's (if not the best) one of the best dancers ever!

  • @albertw666 thats not dancing thats...you cant put it into words. That is god like!!!

  • @mhks68 You're right! MIkhail Baryshinikov = THE BEST!

  • What a great combination! Barishnikov's dancing, Vysotsky's voice and Mirren's smoldering beauty. Vysotsky is part of the reason I studied Russian language and history in school. I wanted to know what he was singing about with so much passion.

  • @ErasmusBDraghin Is the name of this song Horses? And what is this song about? Is it about wanting to be like a wild horse who can run free and fast?

  • @JuicyNuggets I was trying to post the translation, but it's too long so it won't let me - you can find the translation if you type in google "vysotsky fastidious horses translation"

  • @mayaboldyrlol Thank you., for years now trying to get the translation for this song specially, I feel it strongley even with out understanding what's it about.

  • @nivoelnivo01 capricious horses by anulgilax has engl sub

  • @JuicyNuggets Actually, no. It's about a man, riding in a carriage on the cliffs. On one hand, he is charging them, on the other, pleading them to slow down. Contains exceptionally powerful symbolism of a man facing death. Vysotsky was unquestionably Russia's most popular poet of the 20th century. Baryshnikov was a big fan of his.

  • Formidável! Dança e música! Explendido!

  • He looks like Michelangelo's David come to life.

  • i'm 33. hope i'm not late to learn this :(

  • that shit is beautiful no matter what anyone else thinks hes amazing.

  • wauw thats what i call dancing

  • i wish my husband could do this stuff......but i digress....

  • Vysotsky had lots of songs about freedom, but pretty sure this one is not about it at all. Its too poetic to be just about freedom. The text is more about the feeling of closing death, or about man's place in this world, or maybe about the relations with God. It's really too poetic to understand the whole meaning, but it's definitely not only about the freedom. Far not all songs of Soviet period were about freedom)

  • @TheHATECORE I think that this song talks about the alcoholism on his life. The horses are the alcoholism he had and how he wasn't able to control them and he felt like death was nearby.

  • @TheHATECORE and I think he also used drugs, right?

  • Как же потрясающе танцует Михаил Николаевич !

  • Turn the music off and it look like the man is having a seizure XD

  • The man is hoping across the stage in sneakers...Sneakers! Can you do that? Also, ahhh...no knee pads. He's sliding everywhere and breaking down, and leaping back up...God this sequence is defying gravity, and expressing the meaning of true freedom through dance, music, lyrics, art, --- expression. You go Mr. B!

  • обожаю! ;)

  • He's the best dancer ever...

  • Ja, er ist nicht umsonst weltberümt

  • Magnificent!!

  • below is the translation into english,.. i hope it is correct and complete,..enjoy

  • @MrMentalflossed

Thanks for the translation! Who made it?

  • On a rugged cliff, the very edge, above the endless chasm

I keep lashing at my horses with my whip clenched in a spasm

But the air is growing thinner, I am gasping, drowning, crying

I can sense with horrid wonder, I am vanishing, I'm dying chorus: Slow your gallop, oh my horses! Slow your gallop I say! Don't you listen to my stinging whip! But the horses I was given, stubborn and so unforgiving, Can't complete the life I'm living, cant conclude the verse I'm singing

  • I will stop for a blink, I will let horses drink

For a brief second more, I will stand on the brink...

I will perish, as a feather that the hurricane has swallowed,

In a chariot they'll pull me through the snow in blinding gallop

All I ask of you my horses, slow your pace but for a moment

To prolong the final seconds of approach to my last comfort.

  • chorus

We have made it. Right on time, God has left us with few choices

But the why are angels singing with such fiendish scolding voices,

Or it that the horse bell ringing in a frenzy drenched with tears,

Or is it I the one who's screaming for my horses to shift gears?

  • final chorus: Slow your gallop, oh my horses! Slow your gallop I say! Don't you listen to my stinging whip! But the horses I was given, stubborn and so unforgiving, Can't complete the life I'm living, at least let me finish singing

  • @Snipesteal That is so dumb. You are really dumb, for real.

  • did ya'll know his latvian?

  • @waliitc false. russian ballerina.

  • The depth of artistry and passion Baryshnikov dances with and Vysotsky sings is so amazing (and sad in it's powerful beauty)...Truly one of the greatest dance pieces ever captured on film.

  • @DamianJeanPerkins Yes, yes, YES!

  • Blimey, it's "The Queen"!

  • @aharz1 Man, fuck you.

  • @GreatSageGenesis I don't mean Baryshnikov, I'm referring to Helen Mirren, but hey, thanks anyway, it's good to have a "Fuck You" at least once a day.

  • @aharz1 Oh, my bad.

  • I LOVE IT!!

  • good music!! and ... dancer?? it's ok :/

  • @MARIXITA1 HOW DARE YOU!?!?!?! you're talking about the best dancer in the world!

  • @MARIXITA1 it's "ok"???????!!!!!!!!!!!

    WTH??!!!!

  • @MARIXITA1 watch some of the other things he's been in. You can see in them why he's called (and rightfully so) one of the best dancers ever.

  • para mi no nada mas que una persona haciendo gimnasia combinada con aerobics en el esceario con un intento de cancion de fonda

  • If someone can send me link of this song?

  • @Jochna113 youtube.com/watch?v=shi_TBr_TbI

  • @ankolov Thanks:)

  • the song name fastidious horses (Koni Priveredlivye ) its famous song for vladimir vysotsky Russian singer

  • the best dancer....im in shock....XD

  • QUE HERMOSO!!!! QUE BELLEZA!!!!! SIENTO QUE BARYSHNIKOV ES LO MEJOR DE LO MEJOR .. EN ESTA ESCENA....... ASI SE SIENTE LA LIBERTAD....... CON ESAS GARRAS!!!!! DESDE COLOMBIA CON AMOR......

BEATIFUL...!!!!! I FELL BARYSHINKOV ITS THE BEST IN SCENE... I FEELL THE FREDOM.... THIS MESS .. FROM COLOMBIA ..........LOVE!!!!

  • I love the dancing in this film, but it is one of the worst movies EVER.

  • @KarenJMoore1 I wouldn't say it was the worst movie ever..... its wasnt that bad but I agree with u though.... the only reason I watch White Nights is because of the dancing in the film... Im basically in awe of the dancing between Gregory Hines and Mikhail Baryshnikov

  • Genialllllll!!!!!

  • This is the most amazing scene/dance I have ever seen- I feel no one will ever outdance Mikhail Baryshnikov- he is pure talent and genius,

To BBOY2020: Even if you are a true b-boy-break/hip hop- you should appreciate the art and genius of this dance and how it is the passion that comes thru in a performance that gives it feeling and makes what we are seeing beautiful. Maybe u should quit that class if you think "what sounds good to some" is the only basis for talent- ur not going to make it

  • PERFECT!

  • Capricious Horses

  • The dance is amazing, but the song is just awful

  • @BBoy2020 You probably don't understand a single word of this song, do you?

  • @TheBishopSSR No I do not. I understand that the song is about freedom, which is great and all, but we watched this movie in dance class a few weeks ago, and everyone was cringing at this part because of how its sung. When you show this scene to ordinary Americans, they're not going to want to know what the lyrics mean, they just care about if it sounds good, which it doesn't

  • Comment removed

  • @BBoy2020 We had a visit to God there are no delays but there angels sing these evil voices slightly slower horses you tight Do not listen to the whip but that the horses I have got my fastidious I live does not have time to finish singing so khotyaby

  • @BBoy2020 What this "if it sounds good which it doesn´t" is supposed to mean?! Some people like techno, others don´t ( and for me it is just irratating electronic sounds). Some people adore opera, others simply can´t stand it. Some people like Metallica, others don´t. Some people like pop ect. And yes, some people like Vysotsky s singing, others don´t really. If it doesn't sound good to you and some other people it doesn't give you the right for a general statement like this one.

  • @BBoy2020 The "ordinary Americans" to whom this doesn't "sound good" have no soul. They're the plastic, hi-tech generation. I don't understand a word of this song, but I can feel the soul in it. And most people outside of plastic, fast-'food' America can feel it, too. (And I'm American, by the way.) Middle America has sold its soul to mass-marketed TV and music.

  • @davehshs Or you could just stop acting so high and take my comment as one from a pretentious, ignorant asshole.

  • This is one of the most beautiful dances to an incrediblly strong song. I love this. !!

  • I love this and he is just feeling it! i love it!

  • What can be said about this performance? The routine speaks for itself.
