Okay time to put my two cents into this. Frankly I am so sick of all other MMO's just being a rip off of WOW. The interfaces are essentially the same. Final Fantasy is the only MMO that sets itself apart. EVERYTHING negative that was mentioned in this video is exactly why I love Final Fantasy: because it's challenging. In real life you don't have way points or glowing orbs or question marks floating above characters, NPC's. I hate the button mashing of all other MMO's, it just kills a game.

the game is potentially good but square enix rushed the release of it, personally im gonna wait a couple years for them to fix problems and introduce those greatly needed updates then i might consider playing it. i think SE should never have made the game in the first place and just focused on FFXI which in my opinion is still a good game.

@neroflame13 I'm not sure about Duel Wielding. My main class for the time being is an Archer. I know there are huge swords and huge bows. I can only assume that the ninja class and gladiator classes will have duel wielding now or in future updates. One great thing about FFXIV is that you can switch your class simply by changin your weapon and equipping the appropriate armor. The game consists of very large maps full of beautiful scenery. In it's current form it is quite impressive

FFXIV is still very bad, it's not improving... Patch 1.20 is just another fail.
Still no auction house, there is a new acheivement system that just recycles the game and expects everyone to do all the crafting and gathering jobs all over again.

And since you mention it I've been playing games since about 12 years before WoW came out, I've had max level characters in 8 MMOs including WoW and I have some idea what I'm talking about when I say that having to click twice to open your inv is a majorly awful piece of game design.
i happen to play Atlantica online and it's one of grindest games i've ever played but compared to FF14 it's much more accessible.
I can spend time ingame but to make me spending it on useless things like trying to find a sward in the market or browsing thorough my inventory...not cool at all.

it's a real shame that FF14 is actually poorer in just about every aspect than it's predecessor (FF11). Obviosly the graphics are better, and it's a little better for the soloing crowd, but just about everything else fails atrociously. Why not keep what was working in FF11 and import it ? Why spend time developping a WORSE interface ? Add to that, No Auction House, No auto-attacks, and plain obvios cut'n'paste mazes instead of the open-ended zones of FF11.

I'v heard that they got pushed to launch the game to early so they didn't have time to finish it. That's why the PS3 version still isn't released as they don't get pushed to release it there.
I'm still waiting for the PS3 version and hope they fixed most of the important stuff when it gets released.

I just have to say, they have made a lot of changes with launch. The new dev team is very dedicated to overhauling some major aspects of this game. Another really great patch is due this week on July 21st.
@ 1:47 seconds he ask a very important question. The same question i asked when i first played World of Warcraft. I no longer play that game as i got confused. My first online game was FFXI, guess that's why this game came a bit easy for me. And I knew what i was getting into when i bought the game, I knew it wasn't gonna be polished to the way people expect. But, neither was WoW when it first came out. Give it time, and maybe, you'll be playing this game too.

@FreewheelinLibertine The interface is a lot faster and responsive now. Some in game tutorials now appear after dialogue with NPC's. An item search (i.e. auction house) system has been put in place to see what retainer sells what. Parts of the map are now labeled. That's about it.
@FreewheelinLibertine Not 100% but close enough. I suggest you wait until PS3 version comes out because it's new and there isn't much stuff to do yet.

I would rather have clarity over confusement anyday, thats the problem with Square Enix, they think they can have pretty graphics and that will sell the game, they are wrong. Plus they need to stop blaming "Western gamers" because they were liked before they tried to Westernise their games, its ridiculous. Westernise has no meaning, except for covering up development mistakes.

@PrkchpsNaplsaws Uhh, the review listed about 50 other reasons besides having to click twice to open your inv, most of which are pretty significant and add up to a really frustrating and dull game experience.
And since you mention it I've been playing games since about 12 years before WoW came out, I've had max level characters in 8 MMOs including WoW and I have some idea what I'm talking about when I say that having to click twice to open your inv is a majorly awful piece of game design.

i happen to play Atlantica online and it's one of grindest games i've ever played but compared to FF14 it's much more accessible.
I can spend time ingame but to make me spending it on useless things like trying to find a sward in the market or browsing thorough my inventory...not cool at all.

His point is propably that after 2003 they just started to make crap games. X and X-2 were the last two good games they made in my opinion. X-2 was not really the greatest either.. But since X was insanely good i enjoyed X-2 aswell ;)

They had to pay me to play this game, I havent even played it yet and im already bored.
There were only 2 Action RPG I never got bored , SACRED 1 and SACRED 2.
The only problem they had were the servers. Still hope tht some company buy its rights and create Sacred MMO.
And I cant wait for DIABLO 3

Lol i love it when people rag on something new, tell me, was Ragnarok any good when it stared, NO, it was boring EVERYTHING starts somewhere, they need input from players and other people in order to grow the game, i am currently building a new computer for the exact purpose of playing this game AND look forward to it IMMENSELY!!
Everything starts out slowly, its a huge game with HUGE potential and will in time grow into something im sure this "reviewer" will FAWN over

I'm sorry, but this isn't a Final Fantasy game.
Where on Earth is the story? The emotions of the characters? The amazing classical scores? The "personalized" feeling you get when playing a Final Fantasy game?
SquareSoft has gone down hill at such a rapid rate and its a real darn shame :( The really need to go back to the basics and the classic ideas that made the games so amazing in the first 9-10 games.

The games pretty much got shit after X-2. (X-2 wasnt the best but it wasnt bad either. But X was amazing)
And all the games before X are great but to old for me to enjoy now.. I grew up with FFX and FFX will always be the greatest one in my opinion :D
This game is a online game tho, so i dont think its supposed to have story and emotions.

it's a real shame that FF14 is actually poorer in just about every aspect than it's predecessor (FF11). Obviosly the graphics are better, and it's a little better for the soloing crowd, but just about everything else fails atrociously. Why not keep what was working in FF11 and import it ? Why spend time developping a WORSE interface ? Add to that, No Auction House, No auto-attacks, and plain obvios cut'n'paste mazes instead of the open-ended zones of FF11.
Tried to love, failed :-(

GameSpot and IGN have always been part of the racist, introspection-free FPS & PK (Diablo, WC, SC, WoW) community
They hate RPGs, even overtly complaining about having to review RPGs, & consistently rate any RPG lower than they do the shootemups
FFXIV may actually have had or even continue to have flaws after its release, but you won't find out here; what you should be concerned with is the quality of the criticism. To paraphrase the critic, "this is not the review you should be watching"

The criticisms here boil down to two things. "I want EZ now" and "I hate everything that RPGs have always done"
Wikipedia includes this review in the criticisms of the game's interface, including the "step backward" quote
Now I KNOW that is flying bull crap, because the interface is the reason I quit FFXI, and the standard I used to compare the 11 interface with was Anarchy Online and Dark Age of Camelot, which both used a similar number-key quickbar interface to the one that 14 uses now

I'v heard that they got pushed to launch the game to early so they didn't have time to finish it. That's why the PS3 version still isn't released as they don't get pushed to release it there.
I'm still waiting for the PS3 version and hope they fixed most of the important stuff when it gets released.

@theseakker the mythology to me wasnt that creative, games like ff9 had great mythology, its just the fact that the graphics covered up the games lack of creativity. I can still go back to game like zelda who dint have great graphics but had a great strory and great creativity especially with there characters. with this game and me being a ff fan it just didnt hit home for me

@xbox360nerd123123 the most current one is Final fantasy XIII type zero for PSP, japan only, FF14 is pay to play and you have to buy a copy but square turned the game free to play until the game gets his first content pack and ps3 launch.

@alef321 i tried rift after ffxiv that game was so boring just another carbon copy of wow like most other new mmos right now i cam back to eq2 and play xiv on the side both are much better than wow in a mask, yes its launch was terrible but its had some patches that made it much better + what is your definition of dead plenty of people still play it (my server anyways)

warcraft really set the standard for mmorpgs. i find it ironic because they (blizzard) are rts makers who made the best mmorpg and yet the best rpg makers (well last century anyway) cant make a decent one

I just have to say, they have made a lot of changes with launch. The new dev team is very dedicated to overhauling some major aspects of this game. Another really great patch is due this week on July 21st.

@ 1:47 seconds he ask a very important question. The same question i asked when i first played World of Warcraft. I no longer play that game as i got confused. My first online game was FFXI, guess that's why this game came a bit easy for me. And I knew what i was getting into when i bought the game, I knew it wasn't gonna be polished to the way people expect. But, neither was WoW when it first came out. Give it time, and maybe, you'll be playing this game too.

I'm guessing Gamespot asked Enix to pay for a good review. Enix refused and Gamespot went on a rampage making a giant bash-fest for their review.
I obviously haven't played the game but its pretty obvious this guy has a motive to make this game sound as bad as possible.

@FreewheelinLibertine The interface is a lot faster and responsive now. Some in game tutorials now appear after dialogue with NPC's. An item search (i.e. auction house) system has been put in place to see what retainer sells what. Parts of the map are now labeled. That's about it.
