I have seen all of the great bands of the last 50 years! and nobody can compete with Genesis! they are the only band that I know that can take a great studio song and make it even better live! most bands sound good on vinyl but suck live!!!
stop tell this stuff, we listen Living forever, maybe one of the best song of the after gabriel, and the fantastic groove of this song i very delight it, apart the meaning of lyrics, very very true!!!!
Cette chanson garde l'âme de leurs passé, un bon groove rythmique par phil et une bonne suprise après 3 minutes. Banks en solo sur les riffs de mike puis quelques bon breaks et pleins d'energie. joyeux!
@SPeacock Fading Lights is a good (not great) song for Genesis to say goodbye forever. "Way of the Wiorld" is so-so IMHO - I prefer "Driving the last Spike" because it is epic and has some "old Genesis" moments. All in all this last studio album with Phil could have been soooo much better. O.K. do half a dozen commercial songs - but please - where is the genuine prog rock stuff, so many Genesis fans were waiting for? It isn't like any of the band members were in financial trouble at the time.
Genesis and Phil will always be on the radio at some point. I know I can't get tired of listening. He has such a clean voice, Peter had a wierd tone to his, but with that era it was good. Phil made them a little cleaner and more personal, Peter just dressed up and took front stage, Phil has fun and lets everyone have a turn.
@Mktryk great idea. Perhaps the background, the world/civs rising and falling could be sketched in the same style of art as the cover of we can't dance. Same sort of colours. I can really see it in my mind, the sketches bouncing to the jagged rhythm of the song. But the band members in the middle of it all, should be real. Like green screen stuff. Ahhh it would be awesome.
Thank you so much for uploading this! This reminds me of taking a road trip with my Dad to St Louis Mo. We went to visit a family friend diagnosed with a brain tumor. It was a long, life changing trip.. Riding shotgun in that old two door Crown Vic. I played this "new" cd repeatedly with my b-day present. A Sony D-101 perched on my leg as we cruised on..Thought I was some kind of big shot! lol.. I still remember that silver arch gleaming in the sun..Hard to believe that was almost 20 yrs ago!!
The instrumental bridges off of Fading Lights, Living Forever and Dreaming While You Sleep were some of the best masterpieces for Phil in his career. That wasn't even close to the half of it.
@happyhoman Don't forget Driving the Last Spike. This was Phil's last studio album with the band and he sure went out with a bang! They went back to their progressive roots with this album.
@maxjensen9 I would reduce that perception even further to the ten secs between 4:56 and 5:06 which convey a combination of the Old Genesis and the Duke Genesis
You know, if Gabriel would have POSTPONED his own tour in 2007 , they could have had A CLASSIC LINEUP TOUR instead of the TURN IT ON AGAIN TOUR BEFORE TO PHIL HURTING HIS NECK AND BACK AFFECTING HIS LEFT HAND. Hackett was ready to join in if Peter was willing. There may never be another 'classic line-up' tour. :...-(
This song was originally rehearsed for the 1992 Way We Walk tour, but it was dropped in favour of Jesus He Knows Me. Both were considered for the 2007 Turn It On Again tour, but neither were performed.
