  • I always loved the Great War and its era because it meant an end of the old times, the gentlemen warfare and it is the true beginning of the modern age. All the new weapons of mass destruction and their effect on the humans souls who fought this war through 4 years in the mud,

    If 2014 comes and there'll be no WW1 game I'm gonna be very angry . . .

  • i would like to be in a ww1 reenactment like i love trench warfare!

  • Thoroughly engrossing subject.Truly ,the key to understanding the 20th century.

  • My grandfather was in the Spanish American war and WWI .

  • if anyone is looking for a ww1 game, theres one called Aggression: Reign over Europe. its 1914-1950

  • 1:56 they have lot of work to do this

  • Where is the course held? Does it cost money? Do you need to Download Books? Meet your teacher online? I am interested....but this video didn't tell me a damn thing. I know the war was brutal...HOW DO YOU TAKE THE CLASS!!??!!!

  • Ja ist mein Großvater für den u gestorben. s. ein und sie haben versucht, seinen Bruder in Gefängnis beuse er zu stellen, war deutsch

  • it is ww2

  • 1:50 For some reason he reminds me of Richthofen, The Red Baron

  • well it was kinda different.. Russia and French were part of the Entente, Austria-Hungry Germany and Italy were part of a tripod defensive alliance. when Serbia assassinated the prince Austria-Hungry invaded Serbia. Russia was guaranteeing the independence of Serbia. which then pulled France Germany and Italy into the war. only reason England really got involved was because Germany wanted a bigger front with France and invaded Belgium.

  • @1:58 thats a lot of tombstones

  • I just got past WWI in my college history class it was SO disappointing! In the very beginning the teacher said we would only be focusing on social economic and political aspects of the war. What about the eastern front where only 1/4 of the Russian soldiers were armed? What about how millions of men died in the western front yet the front line didn't shift over 5 miles within 4 years? WWI was hell on Earth and if you don't understand how bad it was, you won't understand why history happened.

  • @Dauntless07 I know how you feel. I was so thrilled that I recently did a Great War Course at University. It was actually what we all should learn. It was an indepth look into the developement of the war as a military study. It was British centric but a good and detailed study of doctrine, firepower and development and no damn poetry.

  • 9 million people? try 20 million.

  • 9 million dead. and another 11 million wounded

  • 9 million soldiers dead 4 million civilians 6 million missing. Wikipedia doesnt have all the answers you know.

  • its not a copy.. it takes some key ideas but it is original

  • Well yeah I kinda noticed that myself when I played Civ 3. Two civs went to war with one another, and in about two or three turns later I ended at war with about ten other civs. It's not like WW1 though, because you fast forward 500 years in the game and we're all still at war with one another. WW1 COULD NOT go on for that long.

  • who's music is this?

  • ya, then you will know what is the pain of loosing someone you love.

  • why was ww1 started anyways?

  • cause someone called someone a CHICKEN!!!

  • Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria was assasinated by a Serb named something Princep. Then through a system of alliances, Austria declared war on Serbia and a whole bunch of other countries joined in.

  • "a whole bunch of other countries joined in. " i could only imagine all the leaders sitting at a giant round table and just saying im in, ya me too. than the few who are like ill pass on this one. lol

  • I hope in the future there are aliens and all the countries agree to fight as the planet war, sounds kiddish but so fucking bad ass with cool music like this in the background hahha

  • Kiddish? Why does that sound kiddish? The human species finnaly unite agianst a common enemy, threatening our own existince? Instead of fighting over stupid things, like land or money. Ofcourse i doubt an alien race would ever make contact with us since we are such war bearing people, but hey, whats the point of life without war? War = FUN!! :D

  • aliens exist gods of the chariots make a lot of sense

  • serbia caused world war 1 because a citizen of that country mudered austria-hungary's archuduke franz ferdinand and his wife duchess sofie when they were in serbia. and yes i did google that,

  • @rawrloler WW1 started because Austria-Hungry, France, Russia, Germany, and even, to a degree England, all wanted to go to war. An unsettling answer isn't it? Your next question might now be, "Ok so why did these countries want to go to war?" The answer to that can take you deep down into the human psyche, but I advise reading some books by John Keegan and Barbara Tuchman on WW1. (The safe trivia question version of the answer is: because Gavrilo Princip assassinated Archduke Franz Ferdinand.)

  • @RewInMotion

did you ever hear of the youth-bulge-theory? it says that when there are many young males, there will be aggression and this leaded and leads to many wars ( for example 1618-48, i dont know hows the name in english)...

  • @chefkochcartman Hadn't ever heard of this theory but seems to hold some truth. A large young male population increases a nations leanings to violence and capacity for war. I find national philosophies, writings, and how people view themselves and their nations: these mindsets and world views are what really make wars happen. It's how people convince themselves, and others, to take up arms against others. I usually see desperation to fear, fear to hate, being the path to war (and the dark side).

  • @RewInMotion Remak's Origins of the World War 1 and Ferguson's Pity of War are good also. Keegan wrote and excellent book of the Fall of Bismarck's European order that should be read before hand. Tuchman's Guns of August is epic and her book on the Zimmerman telegram should also be read by those trying to understand how the U.S. became involved in the war.

  • @2vonranke Thanks for the recommends. Funnily enough I finished up Tuchman's Zimmerman Telegram about a month ago. It had some real 'truth is stranger than fiction' moments in it. Good stuff. Thanks again.

  • America also needs the economic boost.

  • bomb china? cut down about 3 billion.. haha

  • back then we had under 2 billion people in the world, where the fuck r these guys coming from!?!

  • Sadly there is not half as much documentaries or reading material on WWI as there is for the second WW. The great war was a pivotal event in world history, and for some reason I find it far more interesting than the second war.

  • WWI is most important for setting up WWII, and establishing America as a world power. It was also the last war people went off to thinking it would be fun and short. I agree, there should be more recognition of this war than there currently is, but you can still find some really good sites remembering the first world war.

  • @chomsky72 Totally agree. WWI set in motion what would be WWII. I don't understand why more focus is not given to the beginning, and what would be the major force to shape the 20th century. I think in a large part we choose to ignore the first chapters of this book because it is far harder and darker. WWII also is easy to focus on for my nation, America, as we see it as a huge high point for us and a very "righteous" conflict.

  • @chomsky72 it led to the 2nd one

  • yeah but the best tank the germans built in ww1 and 2 was the panzer and tiger tank for the russians the t34

  • whos better builder Russians or Germans?

  • Germans

  • Russians didn't even have guns, and if they had guns they didn't have bullets.

  • wait didnt a Russian tank sergeant make the AK-47 (best gun ever build)

  • I thought you were talking about WWI, since that's what this video is about. See, back then, Russia could only afford to arm 1/4 of the men they recruited. The rest were expected to pick up the guns of fallen comrades. Unarmed reinforcements were a common sight in WWI's eastern front.

I disagree about the AK47. I don't think it's a very good gun, but it makes up for this with two features; it's reliable and very cheap. Only countries with no funding for better weapons use the AK47.

  • Yea, too bad WWII ended before he invented it or else Russia would have been the most powerful nation in the world back then. Ah, but then you need bullets which they probably couldn't afford at the time.

  • The Sturmgewehr 44

  • @TheDeusexdave was from world war 2

  • No.

  • Russians have alot more people but ima have to say the germans

  • If ur talking quality, the Germans. If ur talking quantity, the Russians. The Tiger tank and the T-34 are great examples.

  • love that nazi tank no cannon on top but it is like a giant box thing lol

  • if this was a World War then y r the only people holding weapons either white or asian gasp OMG we livin in a white ruled world where the asians r the only true rebels..... fine wit me ?-l

  • at the treaty of versailles at the end of the war, wilson wanted to go easy on the germans. however, the french threw germany into a massive economic depression and the only reason france did this was to get back at germany for the franco-prussian war.

this economic depression put on germany basically allowed adolf hitler to take control in 1933, and then he invaded czechoslovakia, and remilitirzed the rhineland. the league of nations could have stopped him and prevented WW2, but they did not

  • world war one was an interesting war

  • Holy shit, this song is awesum.

  • 1:49

    HANS!

  • It's not impossible to make a WW1 game because there was more than trench warfare. There was urban warfare. Plus, (excluding July 1st, 1916 and many other occasions), it's not just get out of the trench and go forward. Many people had objectives to run to (not just the trenches), and etc.

  • @halfam True, but even WWII had more than a fair share of trench and urban warfare (and a lot of WWII shooters have levels taking place in the trenches or half-ruined cities, so no real big difference). Besides, you could make missions taking place during the more mobile events of the war (the opening battles of the

war and the later offensives). A tactical squad-based shooter or a stealth game would be the best possible genre choices for a WWI first person perspective action title, IMHO. ;-)

  • @halfam On the other hand, a video game that was an endless maze to only stay alive till the end would be very descriptive of trench warfare. no playing to win but rather to stay alive even though sooner or later you will get killed.

  • 88pie88, watch videos of how much German machine gun fire butchered British and French troops attempting that very idea... Germans died the same way aswell, a waste of good men if you ask me.

  • they should make a WWI game seriously Im getting tired of all of these WWII games. thank for te lesson btw

  • they are! It's a mod for red orchestra, go on red orchestra forums and look for a WW1 mod coming out

  • could you inform me on what red orchestra is? I've heard it from somewhere

  • a game

  • All they have is mods. I want a real game and not one made by history channel lol. WWI had some good infantry weapons. The Germans made a submachine gun and introduced flamethrowers, the Russians made the first semi-auto rifle, the Americans brought the shotgun, and all armies made bolt action rifles, HMGs, and LMGs. I just think it would be difficult making it even remotely historically acurate considering almost everyone used bolt action rifles and few of the exotic weapons were mass produced.

  • not to mention introducing chemical warfare

  • It is impossible to make a World War I video game that might show how pointless the slaughter was and how strategically fixed the Western Front was.

  • It's not impossible

  • A submachine gun towards the end of the war. If they base it in 1918, it would just be the Germans retreating. It would be no fun.

  • Brig. General thompson from america made the first smg at the very end of WWI. It would have to be a flight simulator of WWI before I would invest in it

  • really? the russians made a semi-auto rifle in WW1? that's cool. what's it called?

  • The Fedorov Avtomat was the first semi auto rifle I know of, correct me if I'm wrong. Between 1915 and 1924, however, Russia only built 3200 of these weapons. In a war where millions of men hurled themselves against each other, these 3200 rifles made almost no impact.

Yes, WWII could have been prevented, but we can't waste our time taking down every little dictator who comes along. You see that whenever the US does something about it today. Just look at Iraq.

  • But now we're doing nothing about a crazy dictator who's attempting to shoot ballistic missiles at the United States... tells you a lot about our politics, huh?

  • the only WW1 era semi-auto rifle i know of was one very unsuccessful one by the french.

and what is wrong with the US taking down Saddam? that guy who threw his shoes at Bush is still alive. if he had done that to Saddam they would've murdered him right there.

and besides, it's one less dictator this world doesn't need. the US has done good in Iraq by my book.

  • That's what I'm saying. We talk about how we could have stopped WWII by stoping Hitler before he built the military, yet we do NOTHING about the dictators throughout the world today. We just talk about how we should have done something, and then put the thought in the back of our minds as we watch modern genocide on the news. I think America has lost the willingness to fight for a better world for the next generation. If we don't win a war within a year, we want to give up.

  • you need to do the US a favor and run for president.

and aim to be like, the president who makes all the right decisions for his country, and who everybody loves.

be like Teddy Roosevelt. he's on Mount Rushmore for a good reason.

  • thanks, although true motives for the war are a bit clouded, many people do not see the positive out come of gettting rid of saddam

  • actually i dont know how much you know about our involvement in iraq, but the iraqis fucking love us in that country. they have the ability to stand up for themselves now. and one thing that they love more than a living american is a dead american, they love the guys who died for them because they actually appreciate the people who fell in iraq for their freedom. they think america is generous because we put fourth many lives and many dollars to better their country. so you're right, we did good

  • hooah

  • The group was called the Black Hand. FYI

  • ok guniess(srry if splet rong) world record book said that the number of deaths was equall to the population of the u.k. SUBSCRIBE ME. bye

  • 1:31 to 1:37 Guy in tank "hey! HEY! im drinkin coffee wait no wait!! OW!!!!! Your all asses shit that burns

  • xD lol!!!!!

  • DANG?1:56

  • they need to make a WW1 game srsly

  • that would be pimpin infact it should be a call of duty game

  • hell no

  • no.

  • I know. You'd think they would.

  • It would seem cool. But you would use non automatic weapons, some turrets, and you would drive tanks that are immobile and flip over on their sides.

  • It would be great. You would sit in a trench for 16 hours, and then get hit with mustard gas. You have to make rapid fire decisions, like do you want to stay in the trench or get up and get run away? What will you use to try to block the gas? Usually you die, but occasionally you survive.

    Awesome.

  • run like hell, run twards enemy trenches, they wouldent expect it. they would think that your boiling in your trench.

  • WW1 had the most soldiers killed, WW2 had the most Civilion death

  • gee its not like the germans were killing the jews =/.. and its not like the japanese attacked us first =/

  • dudes being sarcastic....

  • Jawohl, nein, you aryan scheisskopf

  • We had to get involved with world war 2 we fucking got bombed by the japs so we fought back

  • trench warfare rly limits the versatility cuz ur just in a trench

  • we?

  • W3 some crazy pplz

  • . I thout WW1 lost like 50.000.000 troops . or did I here comepletely rong?

  • you heard WRONG

  • Time forgets the blood of the innocent...

  • 50,000,000 men were wounded, killed, or missing in ww1.

  • Did that many people even fight in that war? Even if they did, that only sounds true if you count every one who even got a stubbed toe.

  • Alot of people fought in the war. Its called World War 1 for a reason. Also, being wounded means actually getting taken out of the battle front. I really mean that when someone gets wounded or missing.

  • More British, French and Belgians died in the First one than Two

  • no dude 50000000 men were killed in ww2 look it up its in my world record book the book acctually says 56.4 million or sumtin

  • WWII is actally the deadliest war in history, over 60,000,000 dead. Russia has the highest death toll, about 120,000,000 casualties, most of which were civilian.

  • * 12,000,000 russian civilians dead

  • Well it said it was ONE of the deadliest conflicts

  • LOL 60,000,000 in total and russians lost 120,000,000 russians.

  • fun fact:Hitler actually jacked off while giving speeches this aroused him

  • ROFLMFAO!!!!! Awesome fact lolol

  • trench warfare was bigger in WWII than WWI

  • your an idiot.

  • thaq

  • i was wondering if someone was going to say somthing! im not an idiot im just full of shit :P

  • i think ww2 was worst.

  • serbias terrorists invaded austria and killed archduke ferdinand. serbia didnt agree to austrias ultimatum, so they declaired war.

  • How could they, SERBIA didn't attack them, a terrorist group WITHIN Serbia did. When you are told to apoligize and give up land, How do you apologize when you didn't do it it. Unfortunately, Ausrtia took it as if Serbia did the assassinaton when really a small society did, and Serbia took the blame.

  • serbias falt eather way. serbian government should of tryed to stop terrorist activity in yugoslavia.

  • The Austrians hierarchy really didn't want anything to do with war. German propoganda got the civilian mood to be prowar and with germany being much more powerful they had no choice but to fight

  • @ChaseSpeer Are you sure about that? Franz Conrad (commander of all Austrian foces) strongly urged war to check Serbian expansion, and convincced Emperor Josef to follow through. Kaiser Whilhelm, however, was fearful of such a conflict, and actually proposed the "Stop in Belgrade" proposal, which encouraged a quick ninvasion, followed by peace, not a massive war. Furthermore, Germany's reluctance was caused it to be the last of the great powers (excliuding Britain) to Mobolize.

  • @DarthMercanto Positive. The Prussians wanted to great a unified germanic country. Thats also why they invaded france right before WWI. The Germans may have not have been the first to declare ware but they were armed long before it started. No one thought it would be a huge war but they got what they asked for

  • @ChaseSpeer While it is true that the Prussians fought a successful war agianst France in 1870, however, Whilhelm made it ver clear that he did not want a war in 1914, as it would require a dual war with Russia and France both of which had made it quite clear that they intended to make war with Germany in the near future (Russia, in fact, had recently published an article urging France to essentially join them in a dual invasion). The Kasier realized that it would be a disaster.

  • @ChaseSpeer I'd like to present more, stronger arguements but Youtube comment sections really don't leave room for them :P. However, if your interested, may I reccomend G.J. Meyer's, "A World Undone" it expalins what I am tring to say far better then I can currently articulate. On that note, I don't suppose you could reccomend an books that argue tyourn standpoint could you? I have a rather long reading "to do list" but I would be interested in reading more about your point of view. Thanks :)

  • @ChaseSpeer read The Great Controversy.

  • @ChaseSpeer You are so wrong. It was Austria that wanted war. It was the Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand who was assasinated in sarajevo. He was the heir to the throne and the bloodline of Austrian royalty died with him.

Serbia agreed to almost all demands made by Austria but Austria wanted to punish the serbs anyway. The Kaiser pledge support to Austria in a war if Russia mobilised against Austria. If Austria would have accepted serbia's efforts WW1 would not have happened.

  • @jims3666 so what if thats who franz ferdinand was. German Prussia was trying to become a world power since they united the Germanic nations. Hints the Prussian French war. That war had no reason other than unification of Germany. You think Karl Ludwig would start a war when a bunch of thugs killed his son? He said himself during the calm before the great war something along the lines of "this war is going to begin with a royal death and end with a field of blood"

  • @ChaseSpeer my friend, if austria would have accepted serbia's compliance, WW1 would not have happened. It is true germany's bombastic kaiser talked tough but as Winston Churchill said' "the kaiser wants napoleon's conquest without fighting napoleon's battles. willy and nicky both tried talk austria out of military reprisal. there are many others here who agree with me. germany did not want a war in 1914, Austrian hierarchy wanted and started the war.

  • @jims3666 and there are many that would agree with me. Ludwig was too smart to let the death of his son turn into the death of every son in austria but if you really need me to send you links to news paper articles the month of the archduke's death i'll email my professor from a bit back and send them to you

  • @ChaseSpeer sure, i love reading about WW1, thanks

  • @jims3666 everyone country that fought the war had it´s own reasons to fight ww1, the assasination of Franz Ferdinand was only the trigger that made all these reasons become the reason to start a war.

  • Fun Fact: Hitler actually LIKED being in the trenches of WW1. He viewed the war's end as a huge disappointment.

  • Fun Fact: Corporal Hitler lost his left testicle in the first World War, and later received the Iron Cross...

  • i think hilter leaves in my neightborhood. he's always throwing rocks at these little mexician kids.

  • probably reenactment pictures

  • They are renactment.

  • u stupid

  • I wish I could of been killed in ww1

  • so do i

I mean YOU killed NOT ME

  • WWI was the first war ever that tanks were used the first tank was invented by the Brits.

  • I would LOVE to fly those biplanes!

  • you got to think one dude fucked up the world and he is the cause for millions of deaths

  • WWI Pilots must have had some real guts to volunteer to fly those planes

  • I feel proud to have a great grandpa that lived through WW1, he was only a Private. But he was in WW1 he passed away quite a while go, before i was born.

  • Every male in my family that was born before 1922 (within reason) served in the second world war. My Grandfather is the only man on record to ever be injured by the enemy in a submarine during the second world war. he recieved the purple heart from Admiral Nimitz.

  • so how do you carry on your family name if all your males in your family were born before 1922?

  • Wait, wait, wait, did you even read his sentence?

He said the every male that was born before 1922. Not every male in his family were born before 1922
