  • Speak your age. No need to be mature. You're better off being heard for being in couple years time.. Who wrote this horrible script? Your daddy who thought he'd get more views if his words came out the mouth of a child.

  • not to meantion that about a quater of a million children just under the age of 5 die in 10 days and by the sounds of it most of them are going to hell because the idea is that we are made a certian religion by the surroundings we are raised in so say theres people in india who get fixed with the wronge god at no fault of there own die. so first god createsmthe isolation of other religions and then creates the punishment for that isolation any god that lets that happen is either impetent or evil

  • sceince isnt always needed to disprove religion. logic of morals for me usually make many christians stop to think. if theres two people ones a murder who on deaths wro who then prays for jesus to save him. now theres a man who didnt believe in god who devoted his life to his family and kids. which one gets into heaven?

  • It isn't really scientific studies that cast that much doubt on the belief in holy books. Literary studies cast doubt on those beliefs. Just a cursory glance at how holy books are put together casts serious doubt on their validity.

  • So you're an atheist who knows how to say thank you. No need to be calling anybody a genius. She is no Carl Sagan or Professor Hawking.

  • They have jobs to do just like the rest of America. We don't get paid to think, just to do it.

  • @Haukenslush Sheep.

  • I'm so surprised that after all this time there are so few views. I thought this video had gone viral... it's too bad it hasn't. I liked it in 2010 and I still like in 2012. After all this time, still a great video, Autumn.

  • Girl u are a smart and pretty girl...why dont u smile? it's so easy...why don't u look happy or intrested in life? u just look soo sad and serious....just SMILE and experiance HAPPYNESS don't be so serious u have a whole lifeime to be serious.U know u dont have to be so serious to look smart right? u can smile, look happy and be smart! it's really easy and it'll make u fell great just SMILE! This is how u look ;/ .... This is how u should look :D...SMILE;D

  • AutumnLauber for some reason thinks that naturalism = reason. Funny enough that she (nor any scientist) can provide and logical or reasonable evidence for naturalism to be true...

  • Beyond love this video and what you stand for .. love that you are open minded when it comes to understanding but please dont think all forms of religion are just mind control powers .. they they just have answers for everything .. please do not be open minded about no religion and closed about religion.. im not saying that you must be religious .. i am just saying to look into it and not only christianity but also islam and buddism because they are open to self interpretation and understanding.

  • thanks Autumn! I appreciate you too. keep it up!

  • This is an excellent video, Autumn.

  • Only time can tell what is and what is not but let not you eyes be chut and you mind be ignorant of what may be true

  • How funny it is that people think science give the truth about things...hmm,what truth did they find besides looking at a small fraction of mechanics? They can explain "how it works" but not the "whata heck is the idea of this entire machine".Science is a mission with no end, since the mechanism of the world is endless, you can always look and see within the gears more gears and so on.Religion fills the gap with bullshit, while Science is just CaveMan messing with fire,in order to utilize it somehow

  • youre an intelligent retional kid please dont let anybody discredit your ideas just because you are young!

  • Hey Autumn, you might like to see "Blind Men and Elephants: Religion, Science, and Understanding Big Complicated Things" (google it with the quotes) on Greta Christina's blog. She's an atheist who adapts the story of the blind men & elephant (a classic that's explained on her blog if you're not familiar with it) to contrast religion and science and upon seeing it I remembered your vid here.

  • Tedious delivery..

  • Science can teach anatomy and how to shape steel to a razor's edge; but it is impartial as to whether such knowledge is used to more efficiently murder, or to save life through surgery.

  • @weseeinpart Agree, science eventually does nothing but make humans mutate their world even further and just grow better and faster and stronger under those mutation.Just the only problem is...there is a limit to how much stuff you can use,and to how much you can twist everything before it just becomes deformed enough to collapse.True wisdom come in knowing where to stop and ask "haven't we done enough?"and start to apply Evolution Control-without it,humans will grow too big for their tiny home.

  • Some Kids are much smarter and more rational than adults. I love you, little beautiful Autumn

  • Hey Autumn, dont worry too much about not fitting in right now. Hopefully you will be going on to study at Uni and meet lots of intelligent people. And please try to find some time to travel the world. You mind will be opened and expanded even more. Many people dont do this and remain insular, dull, small minded, without perspective, without imagination, bigotted, self righteous

  • I would vote the fuck out of you for President. <3

  • "To know things perfectly, we should know them in detail; but as this is almost infinite, our knowledge is always superficial and imperfect." ~ LaRochefoucauld

"Only God is wise." ~ Socrates

  • ahhh, you're too young to be an atheist. That's like an 8 year old telling us why we shouldn't believe in Santa.

  • @ASKaPHYSICIST That's rather the opposite, every one's born atehist, it's later that this belief is implanted. She never was brainwashed and as such see the importance of being openly atheist in these times, the last stand of dying religions...

  • I am an artist when I create a work of art it takes energy and is a process over a period of time ∆E ∆t ≥ h/2π. There is always uncertainty of how the art work will turn out ∆×∆p×≥h/4π the position of the lines and curves π on the canvas. Every movement I make will have to start at the quantum level and will have an uncertainty of momentum and position. Is this not Heisenberg’s Uncertainty Principle?

    All is uncertainty!

  • Awesome Video. Subscribed.

  • Whatever religion you were taught was jacked up

  • Look up what the Buddha said about believing thing people tell you ...

  • if you want to nake a science teacher happy, go ask him a tough question after class, which goes beyond what he just explained. this shows him that you are really interested in what he is teaching and not just in it for good grades. and it either gives him a opportunity to shine or something to improve his own education further.

  • Great language. clear thinking. Have you ever thought of writing a poem or two?

  • I wish more young people were like you. Thanks for the videos.

  • You are a hope for the establishment of a society where human values, logical reasoning & most of all common sense will have a place higher than any idiotic social dogma.Social dogma, most of which preaching peace, love & mercy in disguise, have a history filled with violence, hatred and murder. You are really very brave to express your views in a world blinded by religion. All The Best.

  • I am so proud of you Autumn! Keep on keeping on. -From the mother of a home schooling atheist family (so my children dont have to go through what she does and we can teach science and reason and questioning all the live long day ((and night)).)

  • hi, autumn, I teach Latin. You would make a great teacher. And once you get out of the hell-hole you currently live in, you can find yourself a nice liberal community where you can be yourself openly and teach what you know. Think about it. Things get so much better in college, SO MUCH BETTER.

  • Cute kid

  • Religion is like a lifelong scratch off ticket. Dopamine induced false hope. Look it up.

  • I was a teacher for 30 years and this question was always rattling around in my head. I think that is why, from an early age, I decided to teach only what I could be certain of. Not spiritually "certain" as with religious people, but intellectually confident. Many times I have said, "I'm not completely sure of this," or "This is a view which does have its honest detractors," or the like.

I think you have a bright future in whatever you choose.

  • Autumn gives me hope for america's future generations.

I wish every 15 year old in our country was this smart.

  • @stiimuli Being an Atheist doesn't make you "smart", it just makes you an Atheist.

  • @Autumn6 you're right, it doesn't....and I never implied that it did. Being an atheist is often a simple byproduct of intelligence.

  • @stiimuli So basically, anybody whose smart is an Atheist, huh? So I guess only 10% of the American population is smart???

  • hot danm 21k views , that's twice as much as my highest viewed video that (along with all my other videos) lost all it's statues when it was deleted :l ......

eh well , not very interesting , i liek thebarkingathiest's video vlogs much better than these kinds , really the biggest reason to spark my interest here was just my other young teenaged female friend on yt i have who i thought you should maybe check out and be friends with , though she is also a christian i think......

  • I wish I learned this when I was 15, could have saved a lot of wasted time.

  • Thumbs up to you smart kid

  • It's so sad that bright minds get suppressed by the ignorant and sheep. Keep up the good work and stay strong. Don't let the bullies get to you. You'll find plenty of atheist communities where you'll fit right in.

  • Hey, you're pretty good at making videos! Don't let the creationists get you down!

And by the way... Congratulations, you've earned yourself a new subscriber.

  • Your speaking skills are terrible!!

  • i was right your potential to be smokin' hot is starting to rear its head

  • I greatly appreciate you're pointing out the fundamental differences between science and religion, which are very stark, to the point where, truly, science and religion are exact opposites of each other. And it really gets on my nerve when some people come up with this idea that science and religion can work together; a ridddiculous idea. Favorited, liked, and subscribed and thanks for making the great point, again. Thank you!! : )

  • Beautiful and smart. I love it.

  • Its really hard to find people of your age with the same level of thinking. Subscribed :)

  • wow so young but so fucking smart xD great vid

  • I can't imagine any of your teachers feeling they had to 'put up with you', I can only imagine them considering you as gold dust.

  • STFU and WALKonWATER NOW!! or...jest Trust SCIENCE NOW!!

    (tellyerdaddiethatyewareVirginandPreggiesNow!!

  • @warwithangels No problem trusting real Science, that's the same as any truth. It's just the lies and spin that liars attach To IT that give me a problem.

  • @NYAthiest, I've been to Christian churches, not catholic. Catholic schools don't do it. And I never said they did. And I'm using the dead sea scrolls as an example to her saying that the Bible has no proof to being older then the late 1800's. My point is that if you don't know very much about the subject your talking about, DON'T TALK ABOUT IT.

  • Ok first of all, maybe you should actually learn about something before you start talking about it, in a regular Christian church, you are asked not to talk during the service (much like your not suppost to talk during class) all of the churches I have gone to have had some form of a Q.&.A.

Second, your saying that religion has no proof? No "truth"..... Ever heard of the dead sea scrolls? Or maybe the fact that the Holy Bible has been the most translated book in history? If this book isn't the

  • @Padreblue11 Wow, interesting. When I went to Catholic church, there was never a Q&A. It's always just : Knell,Stand,Kneel,Stand, Here comes the donation basket,Kneel,Stand,Kneel,Stand. The dead sea scrolls prove what exactly? That the bible god exists? By that logic you have to believe in every religion that has ancient writings. If it was written down a long time ago,it must be true, right? And translating a book has something to do with its truth? Most bibles are given away by churches.

  • WARNING, Epic Douche posting below!

  • You're brain-washed if you think Bible Believers are anything like how you describe "Religion" > Real Christians - NOT Catholics of just - "Christians", Are more than happy to be up-front and discuss or answer any questions put to them by anyone, Scientific or otherwise. Don't let them fool you kid, You Need GOD, and so does everyone, And the only WAY to him is through His Son Jesus Christ.

  • @blackaboe I don't need any god, and if you ever see average Christians quizzed on their own religion or science, the results are cringeworthy. I recent poll had the nonreligious tending to know the most about religion. The sooner we can all be just human without artificial divisions or religion, the better. You might mean well, but the reality is religion causes lots of hate that often can't be resolved.

  • @NYatheist It's easy to think you don't need God when everything is hunkydory, But YOU wait, You Will Need GOD. The Bible says to "seek Him early while He may be found".

  • @blackaboe You have no idea what my life is like, good or bad, and the same for all atheists. You think we are all rich and don't have problems? Every human has to deal with pain, so your ''hunkydory'' argument is stupid. You think I just became an atheist? I have been for years. We atheists sometimes talk about how we, as humans, can still be vunerable to hoping for magical solutions. But we recognize it's just a foolish impulse, and we know people have to work to solve their problems.

  • @NYatheist Yes, Work is part of what the curse is all about. It happened back in Genesis 3 - And it will be lifted when Christ returns and sets up His Millanial Kingdom. Get on board, Get Saved, and there'll be better things ahead.

  • I must double your age but... I became your fan! =) Keep it on!

  • you are amazing :3

  • Thank you for restoring my faith in humanity.

  • Well said. Thank you for reminding me why I'm studying to become a science teacher.

  • like you said, "understanding is the best thing you can do you for yourself".

  • The reason religion has "a warm fuzzy feeling to it" is that, in a sociological point of view" religion is a way of keeping people together, as well as a way of setting morality within a population. Although a large amount of immorality - child abuse, corruption, etc. - occur within religion ("Power tends to corrupt" - Lord acton) religion helps people, be it accepting the worst and turning them around, or knowing that if all goes wrong, a church can help you *non-financial*

  • @jmanleafvill How do you feel about the fact that people comforted by religion are relying on an imaginary friend and fantasies about a fairytale afterlife?

And do the good things you see in religion cancel out the horrors of teaching a little kid that their thoughts are being spied on by a superbeing who will torture them forever if they think certain things? That's child abuse, and it causes lifelong horrible fears of hell punishment. Psychological terror worse than any comfort found in it. :(

  • @jmanleafvill

You can't forget that a lot of the immorality taught in churches is fine by biblical standards, like patriarchal sexism, homophobia etc

One of my favourite quotes by S. Weinburg: "With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion."

  • interesting. I agree alot with what you say, but I think some of the things you say about religion are incorrect. For starters, I am an atheist that believes in what religion can do for someone *if that makes any sense* Being in a family that is Roman Catholic *apparently one of the more "strict" christian branches* I was never taught to not ask questions. In fact I was taught opposite. Take sociology and you might understand religion in a more accepting way.

  • When I watched this video I thought of how I went an all boys Catholic high school, and therefore I didn't get to meet any smart and beautiful girls like you. It made me realize how badly I was robbed of what could have been. But I'm not trying to be depressing, just saying I hope the guys of your generation really appreciate a girl like you.

  • autumnlauber, this is a great video! Many of us much prefer actual knowledge and understanding about the world around us, rather than the fear, hate, false hopes, and ignorance offered by religions. Thanks for your clear and inspirational thoughts.

  • i just kinda wanna say, i respect you alot.

alot of people cant bring themselves to admit some of the things you referred to,

    myself included.

    you're cool.

  • I really hope my daughter grows up to be as awesome as you.

  • Have you read Carl Sagan's work? Things like The Demon Haunted World, Cosmos, The Dragons of Eden, Billions & Billions, etc. If so, great! If not, I really think you would enjoy it.

  • “To be nobody but yourself in a world that's doing its best to make you somebody else, is to fight the hardest battle you are ever going to fight. Never stop fighting.” E. E. Cummings

Go girl! Don't let them get you! :D

  • Great video, if only you were a few years older! What a catch!

  • You seem like a very intelligent young lady. I hope your teachers appreciate you. I sure would like to have someone like you in my class!

  • I wish I had been half as smart as you at your age! (Or now, come to think of it!)

  • Quality, although I doubt teachers need to Put Up with you, you seem a rational student who 'gets it'. Keep it up :)

  • Bravo!

  • Lovely to see a young person with some reason and common sense!! You Go Girl!!!

  • You are the most beautiful person to ever walk the face of the earth, in appearance and intelligence. I love you :D

  • I go to a new york public high school. Growing up knowing that, religion with all its attractions and happy illusions was a farce. Being appalled at our government. Finding it futile to try to change anyone's opinion. To have to grit your teeth when people say that there should be more god in the classroom. All this brings with it an almost unbearable feeling of isolation from your peers, under the surface. I wish I believed in god. I wish you didn't realize this at such a young age.

  • most believe in religion due to being told to.. or because the bible says to believe in it .. a stupid reason to believe in a book. Religions are myths and superstitions left over from ancient times. Evolution is real, the bible is not. read Deut 22:11-12 ... does this make sense? or Exodus 35:2-3. what nonsense!

This young lady is a precious gem!

  • Great video Autumn. Your teachers are lucky to have a student like you!

  • I agree with this, but I don't know why everyone is praising this girl as if what she was saying was some sort of breakthrough in science. It's fucking obvious, only people who are blind followers of the religion they were practically born into have never had such thoughts. It's funny how christianity all of a sudden 'became' compatible with the scientific explanation of the creation of our planet for example. Religion is for those who need a simple way of explaining the currently inexplicable.

  • I could only hope that younger generations such as yourself can share your belief rather than those who believe its right to force them into religion

  • Thank you for articulating this, autumnlauber. In the future, don't be swayed into becoming 'more respectful' towards those you are disagreeing with: they will attempt any method to dilute your clear thinking.

  • I am from the Internets and I approve of this message.

  • you go, girl!

  • i love this girl

  • Her is your choice to represent the future, this young lady, Palin, Sharon Angle, or C. O Donnell.

  • Thank you Autumn!

  • Autumn for president 2030

  • When you grow up, please become a teacher. Or president.

  • Beautiful person, beautiful mind.

  • GJ =)

  • Thanks A LOT for this video!

  • Smart kid.

  • @autumnlauber - Yeap, pretty much you summed up the contrast between religion and science. You're spot on!

  • You are awesome.

  • I'm very excited to know that our youth of America aren't all going to grow up waisting their time and I hope their are more out there like yourself, good job and good luck. Don't ever stop learning.

  • you fucking go, girl.

  • Holy sh*t, effing AWESOME. I think I know exactly where she's coming from…

  • Scepticism, experience and reason are the foundations of science. They're the best tools to discover lies and the best tools to discover truth. Happy searching.

  • I hope you'll keep searching for truths and using the reasoning skills in your grasp to discover the shape of the world. There's still so many questions about our universe left unanswered that /can/ be answered. I'm thankful to know that you and others will continue to ask and seek and raise lanterns against the darkness of not only ignorance but of willful disinterest in increasing our knowledge of our world.

  • Good work Autumn, this automatically makes you more mature and self-aware then probably 75% of America :) Seriously though, rock on and don't back down!

  • @primusfeces This isn't specifically true. By recreating the conditions we believe led to the formation of the first life in laboratories, we're getting very close to creating life from primordial soup. We can, in fact, observe the origins of life because all the components that originally led to the creation of life are still avaliable to us.

  • Go get 'em kid. We're all proud of you and I am stunned by your bravery.

  • That's right, kid! You tell them, and keep doing well in school!

  • Outstanding.

  • I commend your bravery...Keep it up

  • Smart, smart, smart young adult. Nice to hear some reason for a change. Thanks for posting!

  • I love you!

  • "Thank you for watching."

    You are very welcome.

  • Religious people do not apply reason or logic when dealing with their faith, even if they do apply it in all other areas of their life. Unfortunately nothing will change that.

  • VERY well said! Young lady you are wise beyond your years! KUDOS! And keep that little nose in the science books! Critical thinking is very important. Ask questions, never stop!

  • This young girl is inspirational in ways I can hardly express. She has given me a ray of hope that perhaps the next generations of kids will begin the long torturous journey away from the insanity of indoctrinated religious belief and replace it with reason and rational inquiry into the natural world. THANK YOU young lady for the video, and also a hearty thank you to all the science teachers everywhere!

  • Too bad she's the minority in the USA!

  • A+, kiddo. A+

  • Keep on posting! It's so nice to see young people thinking for themselves. If you have a good teacher like you mentioned, S/he would feel like their hard work was rewarded watching this video. My partner is Math's teacher and the only thing that motivates her to actually do the job is conquering the attitude that has been instilled in students that they are not intelligent young adults who can do anything they want if they put their unpolluted mind to it. your video was posted on reddit.BTW

  • 2 people so far who think skepticism and open mindedness is a bad thing.

  • Hey !

I was subscribed to your "Atheist the Dirty Word" Account. And then you dispersed ?

I found you again thanks to PZ :)

  • @nekedemus I sent a pm to all my subs because I made a techno mistake and managed to get only about 300 of the 500 back. I’m so glad you returned :D

  • Girl, I so envy you. I mean I REALLY REALLY envy you. It took me decades to reach the enlightenment that you now have. What you can reach is beyond my imagination. Go girl go!!!

  • Little girl, don't let them know you are using your mind to critically examine the world around you! You are going to get yourself ostracized from the community and find yourself with a lifetime banning from the young conservatives club!

I sure hope, for your sake, you don't live in the midwest; your parents could get in a lot of trouble if they find out you've been trying to learn and rejecting religion (yeah, I know those are really the same thing).

  • @jimbrown257 my parents support my views :3

  • Clever girl.

  • Thanks for posting this. I thought the teachers nowadays didn't care. It's great that you do have one that loves to teach.

  • I hope you continue this intellectual independence for the rest of your life.

  • Spoken beautifully. I wish I could have come to this at your age. Keep doing exactly what you're doing!

  • I know it's annoying to get this kind of advice from all the old wise-ass people, but I will say this: If you want to be a rationalist, thinker, sceptic, atheist, scientist - be one who can smile and laugh. Don't throw away your humanity: be aware of your brain's limitations, of your intuitive grasp of things. Don't try being a robot claiming to accept facts only through evidence - you're just a human like everybody else. Be a happy one - it will advertise your ideology better than logic.

  • Very nice. Stay strong no matter what.

  • You are awesome Autumn. Like someone else said I think we still have hope. That is, as long as we have people like you who stand up and think about the establishments around them for themselves. We really should be taught to think about things ourselves and come to a conclusion. Not be given a conclusion and think about it.

  • You are my hero

  • Nicely spoken. Clearly, you are mature beyond your years. Also, I agree with you entirely and am pleased to see that you have not only embraced reason, but are willing to speak out in it's favor. I applaud you, Autumn.

  • You have spoken well, and you have spoken wisely.

  • Suddenly reddit invasion.

  • Autumn... you've been pharyngulated. :)

  • Wonderful! Make sure you watch Carl Sagan's "A Universe Not Made for Us" video. I'm happy to see there are students like you. Keep it up!

  • im realized everything she is talking about just recently and im now 20.

  • Thank you for existing.

  • You've learned well young padawan

  • You've learned well young padawan

  • I think you're awesome little lady.

  • So smart!.. and only 14? You must have had excellent teachers.

  • Stay brave.

  • Autumn, every science teacher in America is beaming proudly at you with a tear in their eye at this very instant. Thank you.

  • Thank you.
