@7XxshadowxX7 actually you are completely wrong. the angle the ball are in relation to the cradle have nothing to do with the law. you can test this by holding a cradle in a precarious position and begin the cradle movement. I hate to expose your stupidity but this should be fairly obvious to anyone watching this video, or perhaps your a simpleton?.. either way, you fail(i hate that word) idiot
me and my friend were using this on a bus to a field trip and it started going relly fast and we couldnt stop laughing like we laught non stop the whole hour on the bus til we were there
For those who aren't interested in physics, just like a real Newton's Cradle it might seem completely pointless, but for for people looking for a demonstration of Conservation of Momentum and Energy it's a neat little combination of modern technology and classical experimentation. I wonder if the app's makers programmed external forces such as gravity into their hypothetical cradle, it's hard to tell from the video.
@Silverfire321 Gravity is not an external force in this situation..
however air resistance due to a drag coefficient acting on the respective moving balls would be. And from the looks of it, the programmer did not take such things into account. It is a good demonstration of the conservation of energy, but I think some would see it as pointless because it doesn't work for ever in reality and they may not understand that the hypothetical model assumes 100% efficiency of power.
@FiggleSmit In fact regarding my initial inquiry, of course a gravitational force has to be programmed into the cradle shown here or else there would be nothing to induce a ball to fall once it's been released from its apex! As for efficiency, if the programmer did not program air resistance into this model, then I suppose you can assume that the cradle is in a vacuum. If that's the case, however then we shouldn't be hearing a 'clicking' sound either.
@Silverfire321 Sorry, I didn't make myself clear; what I meant is that though it is programmed to represent gravity, it would not be programmed to respond intelligently to other conditions in the way a gravitational field strength would. It would more likely be a conditional statement to tell the ball at each end to follow the coordinates of a specific trajectory when the ball when the opposite ball has returned. Very true about the clicking thing =)
@FiggleSmit No, I don't think that's the case at all. You can actually see it make reference to the external force of gravity via the accelerometers in the phone. Look at the start you can see the balls leaning before they are even touched. But even if it didn't use the accelerometers I would still expect the model to be a lot more complicated than a solitary 'conditional statement', it needs to be to give any sort of realism. That's why all modern games contain a lot of real world physics.
