hi! i have also a 6 year old son.i've teaching him table tennis for 3-4 months now.he has a good skills and he learned very fast. but the problem is he is not so serious in playing. sometimes when he's playing table tennis, he hit the ball very hard imagining a baseball game, and laughing. what shall i do to make him serious in playing?i want him to become a champion. thanks!
@yangyang45 It is difficult to make someone serious if they aren't. One thing that used to keep Fred going was incorporating little games into the practices. eg He would score a point if he got the ball on 10 times and I would score if he didn't. I also used to have targets on the table like sweets which he could eat if he hit them.
Fred is great for his age. I coach a very good 6 year old called Anish Padalkar. However he cannot rally for as long as Fred. I would like to see how they compare at topspinning vs backspin though. Could you post a video of Fred playing vs chop or has he not done that yet? Regards, Rory Scott (Horsham TTC Coach)
There is a bit of him hitting against LP on a previous vid, probably his 6th birthday one? It is something we look at from time to time, in particular his opening shot against backspin, but in junior play he won't be facing too many choppers. When he does start to meet them more in the league then we will look more at how to tackle them.
I can't claim all of the credit this time as Fred now gets quite a lot of coaching input from elsewhere. I like to think that the backhand is probably 90% my doing though.

I'm sure he will make good progress if he can maintain his interest in table tennis. How far he can get, who knows. Only time will tell.
