Hayling Island, Mmmmm been here 45 years now. Think its time to move. Not what it used to be, think most of Leigh Park moved in. Sorry to say this but its not a nice place to live anymore. dam shame.
I lived on hayling for 2 years, i agree its shit. Shit shops, shit false pebble beach, shit pubs, lots of smashed windows ans generally very dowdy scruffy inhabitants
As a current resident and pub user, I would agree with only one of those comments. However, each to their own taste! Presumably you've found somewhere much more agreeable to live? Do share it with us!
I went to Hayling in 1983 when I was 12 years old on a school trip, and I can quite clearly remember Mr Dunston Smith saying to the driver, what a complete shit hole Hayling island is and i think he felt quite embarrassed about taking us there.
I also returned to Hayling Island on a Regeneration Lanfill site course in 2006, and yes Hayling Island is still very shit. Just like this video clip.
Great video- and how great to see a video of a community event. Hayling Island has a huge amount of history and heritage and miles of beautiful coastline, SSSIs and lots to offer the DISCERNING traveller. Thanks for taking the time to post the video- it looked like a fun event!
Where's the video of the wonderful smashed windows by the local disgruntled youths who've got nothing to do on the Island. Or the hospitality offered at the local knocking shop = Lilly Sugars. Or the traffic jams of fed up holiday makers trying to leave the Island.
This video is totally and utterly PATHETIC...just like the Island itself - cheap and desperate for some kind of identity.
And just what have you yourself contributed to the life of a community, either on Hayling Island or elsewhere? Perhaps you have a less PATHETIC example to offer from your own life?
Very good quality picture - on full screen! Not been there yet/recently. I belive they had a struggle getting started. All is needed now is a 'prpoper' steam engine - what's wrong with Peter Pan? Good Luck to all.

We know all the pubs - in desperation to find a nice one we've been to them all, here's the best!!
> Lilly Sugars (enc. 'gentlemen' visitors)
> Lifeboat (enc. late night drunken street racing along Seafront, all the Creek Road pubs have all closed)
> Inn OT Beach (crying out for MONEY, but like other buildings on the island it's decrepid)
> Ferry Inn (used to do ace food but gone down hill)
> Royal Oak (no comment needed!)
