Two English idioms I never understood, and still don't really, when I first began learning English were:
1. "It's like comparing apples and oranges" - why wouldn't you compare apples and oranges? They're two different things! Ones red, the others orange, etc.
2. "He wants his cake and to eat it to" - why shouldn't he eat his cake? It's his cake! Let him eat his cake!
I can understand the idioms that at least make logical sense, but some mean the opposite of their literal meaning :(
You will also hear am skint mate, no dough, no cash, no wonga, no spondoolies or no bee's and honey. Sick and tired means bored of hearing, seeing or doing something. not hate hun

Your videos have been very important for me and my students!!!! They are awesome. We have learned a lot. thanks a lot. Go ahead ; they are really useful.
Hi Valen, biggest problem I face after your watching your lessons is that I forget it whe it comes to writing or speaking. What tips do you suggest for remembering your lesson and utilizing them in our daily conversatin. My question is about how to remember and memorize. Thanks!
Splendid tutorial! I've got a question concerning 'in ages'? Is it the same to say 'for ages'? Like for example, "I haven't seen him for ages"? Which is more correct? Greetings from Greece.
Hi, you are the one who I love to learn English with. I can be sure Valen is able to make learning more enjoyable but I just worry about the problem of focusing.
Even though I am naturally an English-speaker, I never really realized how strange our language's expressions can be until I randomly came across this video. Keep up with the good work of teaching English-learners. C:
I remember trying to ask a tired friend who came to my house from gym., "do you want to stay for the night?" but I asked "do you want to sleep "WITH" me". BAD! in fact, he still laughs & jokingly accuses me of rapping him in my house!. That is when I discovered the best way to master English is to study verb phrases not words or grammar. I realized children don't learn grammar rules or big words, yet they speak fluent English than I do. Why? because they grasp verb phrases. Thank YOU sister
You're a great teacher. I wish I had had a teacher like you back when I learnt English. I bet I wouldn't have so much trouble trying to find the right words and expressions when speaking English.
What you're teaching here are idioms. Teaching idioms is a waste of students time. They will be learned naturally through common usage as students levels increase. You could spend your students time much more effectively.
You've "got the ball rolling" with videos on line. I work "24/7" too. I haven taken a vacation "in ages". At first I wasn't sure of posting a comment. I needed to "sleep on it" before posting it. It's 5th day on the month and "I'm broke". I need to attend a meeting at 2 in the afternoon "sharp!". I know the road map to my office "like the back of my hand". Do you wanna "give me a hand" in learning more expressions? I'm "sick and tired" of managing a resource. I need to "Take it easy" though.
hey i don't know in what state of mind your are but she is our teacher and if you want to satisfy your own filthy, sick mind go some where else. she is our teacher and we love and respect her. go to hell and as she taught us we are "SICK AND TIRED OF YOU"

I like this lesson.
Good one.
But...
I think that the most difficult thing in these ESL EngVid lessons is fluency of the language of the teachers.
Students who will listen to their explanations won't be able to get their words properly all the time.
I would be good if they taught fluency as well.
