John Lydon is a right prick. Wasn't he on the one show recently trying to pass himself off as all jesus like and Anarchist. Some people will do anything for publicity and money won't they, how pathetic.
@kil93 steve jones recorded the bass tracks for never mind the bollocks when sid was in hospital suffering from hepatitis. never mind the bollocks was released well after glen "left the band or was sacked, whatever way you want to look at it" glen was invited to the studio as a session musician when they were making the album but funnily enough he never turned up. f.y.i :).
I have never found one. If you watch videos of them live now he still uses some similar runs especially in the chorus so you can see roughly what he does and work out a few bits from there
To be honest I dont think I ever heard him play this song the same twice throughout all the demos and live recordings I have of them
Best thing to do is probably find a decent guitar teacher and just hire them for 2 lessons or something and ask them to tab this for you and teach u how to play it.
@Column111 Or to listen carefully and try to find the rights strings by yourself, even if you can't really tell what note it is, you can still play a song by ear ; that's even easier with an instrumental song like this ^^
@50sAllTheWay it's pretty easy to figure out, just by goofing around for a little bit im pretty sure i got about 90% of it note for note, matlock was a great bassist.
They were more fun with Glen. And they were a proper band. This is how they should of stayed. Yeah sid looked great - but it all got nasty and pointless from there on after.
you can clearly hear glens bass he could and still can really play.its true sid did not play a single note on there records. but glen had the last laugh. plus they still tour today and are still fucking great
you kidding me? steve was only on guitar for three months when the pistols started gigging....he was and is one of rock n rolls tightest guitarist and has a very 50's style about his playing...paul cook is amazing drummer, his drumming is impecable and his rolls are fantastic...listen to people cover their songs...no body can do it like them...id say that makes them musicily inclined
The B side of the original 'God Save The Queen' on A&M records is 'No Feeling' it has the original bass lines of Glen Matlock. There are a lot of bootleg & so called reissues about of the A&M record, but the majority of these have the NMTB version with Steve playing bass. Sid didn't play on any of the Pistols stuff which was one album and four singles.
Original? Actually everything about Sid's bass style was stolen from DeeDee Ramone. And Dee Dee played his bass with a pick loooong before Sid. Just watch any Ramones vid on YouTube.
The bass playing in this video of No Feelings is INCREDIBLE!!!!
In John Lydon's book "Rotten: No Irish, No Blacks, No Dogs" he talks about how McCartney used to try to get autographs and interviews with him and such until Lydon eventually blew him off.
Bass players have used picks since the electric bass was invented
Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys did (early 60's!)
Paul McCartney of the Beatles did (early 60's!)
Not to mention about a thousand others.
Sidney may have been the epitome of the punk image but his bass playing abilities were extremely basic and he was limited to following very simple note patterns - something anyone can do really.
To be a GOOD bass player you need to progress beyond simply following the basic rhythm.
The moment Sid joined was the moment the Sex Pistols started to really become a circus rather than a band that actually played and did something for real. They didn't need the bad boy image Sid gave, they were already doing fine on that front and had got into enough punch ups/incidents/Grundy show to claim that bad boy tag.
It annoys me how the Pistols that is most remember is when Sid was in the band and the band had turned into a fucking joke.
@Neuschaefer Sid was undoubtedly 'rock & roll' though, he was awesome, a total nihilist, outrageous and obscene, i don't even care that he was awful musically, almost makes him more cool haha
When Matlock was in the band there was no other band (and IMO still isn't) that could compete with the Pistols. They had absolutely everything. I have yet to hear another band playing in small venues like the Pistols did with the same musicianship, intensity and originality.
This is why I post these videos on here. Hopefully it will stop the idiots who claim the 'Pistols didn't even play' - What a load of bollocks.
This is absolutely superb, how much better could the pistols have been with the inclusion of Matlock. Still the greatest band in the world but if only, thanks for posting this, never heard before.
Glen`s bass is really aggresive and melodic too, love it !! Definately a Rickenbacker as oppose to the Precision bass he often played.

@50sAllTheWay The chords are F, G, Bb, C, then F. During verse it's F, Bb, G, F, C. Chorus is Bb C. I think. Just walk bass to chords.

Someday747 3 years ago 3
you are kidding right?
Sid did one thing on bass that no one else ever did prior..
Yeah he got laughed at and made fun of for it and people asked what kind of bass player was he
He played the electric bass with a guitar pic. now it's pretty normal to do.
But sid created that.. It wasn't he was a bad bass player he was actually an excellent bass player.. The problem was his heroin addiction!
He'd get so blasted on the sh__ and then couldn't play right because he was stoned of his arse.
