  • These guy aren't Jamaican.;)

  • If you all enjoyed yourselves, that's the important thing. It is also encouraging to others who are really, really awful but enjoy making 'music'.

  • I have my own version to the lyrics, I am so poor I have to buy my bread day old.

  • @toogawnjawn lol

  • Oh god I miss Jamaica right now... :')

  • how the fuck is this weak cover trash gonna be one of the first to pop up when searching traditional jamaican music..i wanna hear the original version live.

  • Thank you for singing it and the information about the song. Best Wishes and keep up the good work.

  • @nisocire You're welcome. Thanks for your support.

  • COME MISTAH TALLY MAN, TALLY ME BANANA!

  • When I read the time of 2:30 am and this song, I start to look for bottles of hooch in the clip. Great song! :D

  • They were well hidden. Thanks for your comment.

  • por favor publiquen la letra, muchas gracias

  • Lyrics and chords of all my songs are on my website: raymondcrookeDOTcom

Click on "My Folk Songs" and then "American Songs" and you'll find this one.

  • As you sing, I see Harry Belafonte as if it were yesterday. You are both great.

  • Thanks for watching. Glad you enjoyed it.

  • As much as I like to harass my Jamaican brothers about our various styles of music, this song is indeed Jamaican. Edric Connor (from my home, Trinidad) was certainly the first person to record the song, but it was around before he recorded it.

In fact, if you take a look at the album it came from... it is named Songs From Jamaica.

None-the-less, it is a very happy version that you've put up here, Crooke. Tip top. Keep it up!

  • Thanks for that information. I'll change the information accordingly.

  • lol

  • sehr ok das video wie in den 60er toll

  • its a good song, good performance grandpa!! regards from colombia

  • Great singining. This is called the joy of singing. It's the spirit of fun thats important. Keep it up.

  • You guys are a "bunch" of fun!!!!!....Dan

  • Thanks, Dan. Excellent video response!

  • you're wrong in your notes. This song was oringinally JAMAICAN. Sang by Harry Belafonte.

  • He wasn't the first to sing it. Trinidadian singer, Edric Connor, recorded it four years earlier.

  • This is penalty.

  • I suggest you all get the correct tune and the words for the song.. that would make things much better.

  • At 2:30 am after several drinks it sounded fine to us!

  • and it's "daylight come and me waan go home" not "wanna"

  • good job

  • whhen you get home your gonna find your momma raped and nailed to the c eiling xxxxxxxx

  • guys lay off the poor guy! they're mates , they're hanging out , they're singing. bugger off if you dont like it

  • no offence but this reallllly sucks, in the vid your saying day-o, i know harry is supposed to say day-o, but its sounds more like hes saying dayyyy

    it makes a huge difference

  • We did this in the early hours of the morning after several hours of drinking. That probably makes a huge difference too!

  • jamaica not trinidad

  • hey i think you guys are great - don't listen to these hating tools

  • Thanks. Negative comments won't stop us singing!

  • cool....! ;D

  • I guess you guys enjoyed yourselves, but why record it for Pete's sake.

  • There are plenty of comments here that show other people enjoyed it too. No one's forcing you to watch it.

  • Actually, I'm sitting here tied to a chair. I was kidnapped a few weeks ago, and my captors decided that forcing me to watch this video was more effective than water boarding.

  • You'd better give them whatever it is they want. You won't survive this much longer!

  • I know, tell me about it. Anyway, the song isn't that bad. Although, part of me thinks this is really footage from inside the Branch Davidian compound before it was torched...

  • i sang this in my assembly bout st lucia in year 4

  • I'm sure it was a big hit, Izzy.

  • come mr tally man, tally me banana

  • I was drinking metholated spirits mixed with absinth and even tho my sight was gone (and still is ) they were still out of tune !! lol

  • LOOOL!! xD

  • lol

  • Raymond...

Here you are singing a song made popular by the Tarriers. They are even mentioned in your information sidebar.

You are a fan and you don't know it. The Tarriers also did No Hiding Place. These were prized 78RPM's when I was a teenager. The Tarriers delivery was much more enthusiastic than many of the other folk groups which is why they had special appeal to me.

  • I learnt this from listening to Belafonte.

I have recordings of all sorts of obscure folk groups and singers of the sixties, but somehow I never got hold of a Tarriers recording. I'll have a listen to the videos you sent. I'm sure any group recommended by you is worth getting to know.

  • Great duet (or a trio)!

  • There were several more of us off camera.

  • good job!!!

  • What are the Chords for this song???

  • Well the neighbours are a bit further away in Woodend!

  • Your neighbours - or mine?

  • Both, if necessary.

  • So...neighbours are necessary...is that what you are telling me?

  • Not when they say "daylight come so please go home."
