  • The most ridiculous thing about this is the fact that Bekele almost would have lapped himself (ok...maybe only about 80m back or so) had he been running his previous world record pace.

  • Come on America. Let's do better at the 2012 London Olympics. ^_^

  • Actually Steve Cram was a 3:46 miler...but he's not at all a moron - he's a genius to the sport, he's just including a few words about Farah, not talking about him the entire time. This was a great race, Lagat and Bekele battling it down the straight! Lagat's form looks fantastic when he gets into his sprint, and same with Bekele - in my opinion they have the two best forms I've seen from distance runners. Amazing how Farah went from running like this to becoming world champion 2 years later!

  • thumbs up for ETHIOPIA

  • bekele can satisfy hundreds of women in 1 days

  • Haile has prettier stride, in my opinion.

  • This wasn't really a slow race it was a tactical race. The finish times for tactical championship races for the last 40 years haven't changed. Since the back of the pack has gotten faster, at times, they put pressure on the worlds best to the point that the 1999 2003 2008 championships were almost a time trial race.

  • @iMaDeMoN2012 they've used that "tactical" cliche for ages. A fast race is just as tactical as a slow one. Even with a slow pace, you need to be at or near the front by the bell lap.

For the best runner to accept a slow race is usually a poor tactic anyhow. Gives too many other runners a chance to win. The true champions run fast and eliminate all doubt. Like Auoita and Ngugi in the 80's olympics.

  • Outkicking Lagat in a slow race after *that* 10000m victory a couple of days before. Just phenomenal.

  • Winning a 5k by .3 isn't exactly running away with the gold as the title would suggest.

  • The second place runner was very good but you can't against Bekele...

  • The commentator believed Farah was going to take the lead and the victory, what a moron..

  • @mgljimcmgl ... yeah that moron is a 3:48 miler.... me thinks he knows a bit about the sport.

  • @4241600m Obviously, a moron, absolutely a moron, it´s ridiculous just talking about Farah all the race, only expecting he was going to get the vicotory without considering Bekele was unbeatable in that year. You can run a 3.48 in a mile and you can be a moron. It´s very important and fair to be honest about competitions and if there´s any competitor of your own country there´s no right to focus all the race in him. He is a moron.

  • Haha since when is his name "Ba-kee-lee"? If you don't learn all the tongue-twister African names at least learn the good ones

  • @Mripts5i While that is true, you never know what could happen. That simple slow down could result in the difference between finishing in the top 3, or even winning.

  • marilson é melhor

  • they were side by side Lagat gave up first...

  • He destroyed the Eritrean Tadese in the 10000m. but this was to close for comfort...

  • I'm sorry but "runs away with gold"??? Not even close Lagat made him give every bit of his strength if they would have been side by side this would've been Lagat, this was an amazing race

  • lamrof is gay

  • i hate how they slow down before they cross the line...

  • @thISxTHplacE run a 13min 5km and then you can critizice them

  • @jonhy0102 That's not the point. No matter what race it is you never slow down.

Add this to the end of your youtube url: /watch?v=qoBo6jskwEc&feature=related

  • Strength outlasts Speed. Love it.

  • STRENGTH OUTLAST SPEED!

  • african,african,african,african,african,african,african.....WHITE!!

  • Chris Solinsky just got left in the dust

  • When will Bekele run a marathon and try to set a new WR?

  • @FourSeasonRunner probably not for a few years he has the speed for the track so it's unlikely he'll move up untill he's in his 30s

  • @Winston408..thats true, I don't think he will just yet, because hes only 28 at the moment and has 2 Olympic medal at 10000m and if he runs in london 2010 he will became the first man to row 3 in a row

  • Look at Tegenkamp going moving into the BOX before last lap --> Good tactics :D:D:D

  • Last km in 2.24!!!

  • what does he see? the 1500 meter man!

  • Bekele is truly born to run. Nobody else moves at speed quite like that man.

  • Shoot! I love Lagat, but this race belongs to Bekele! Well DONE!!

  • Wonderful Quality

  • 0:02 - 0:04 lol @ the last guy.

  • El Guerrouj would have taken this one. Anything slower than 13 minutes will go to El Guerrouj everythime. Props to Bekele for holding off Lagat in this one though.

  • @jransub4 i really liked ur saying :

Anything slower than 13 minutes will go to El Guerrouj everythime. ;)

  • @jransub4 I don't really know about that one... it depends on how far out the kick starts really. if lagat had run the 5k in 2004, it would have been a completely different race, assuming he's at his prime 5k fitness level. guerrouj can't match lagat's footspeed, but he's way tougher. Bekele is about as tough as guerrouj, but not as fast. it would've been awesome to see those three in a race. (did they ever race?)

  • he did that because hes really tired

  • 5 stars for amazing quility of the video

  • Nobody can stop the Lion. Nobody.

  • Bkele you are the best !!

  • Please stop your griping.

  • Kenenisa has the prettiest stride form of all. flows like a stream

    clean like a whistle

    fast like a swallow.

  • @lamrof well said. He has turned it into an art form.

  • @lamrof The amazing thing is that both Bekele and Haile look like they were just jogging to me. And they aren't very tall guys. Yet, the speed is so much greater!

  • @Averagebum2 They are only about my height, and considering their cadences average about 180 for most part of the race, their stride lengths must be much larger than most people like me who can easily run 180 cadence but no where near their speed. Hence, I don't believe in the nonsense about shortening one's stride length.

  • @Averagebum2 The big difference is their flexibility compared to the average person their height, because since their hamstrings and hips are more flexible than most, they are able to have a much longer stride than their height would suggest. Hope that helps. lol

  • @MrFuckrudders Yes, it helps...are they really more flexible? I think they must be much more flexible in their hip flexors too. Thanks!

  • @Averagebum2 I'm merely basing this off of what I have heard and also, as a high school runner logging 70 miles a week I was running around 18:30 consistently and after hearing about this I focused much more on flexibility and less on mileage, only running 40 or so a week and in a year dropped to a 16:30, and I'm 5'7" so I would assume that is why, but here is a video link that does a great job of explaining it better than I am probably capable of doing. lol.

  • @Averagebum2 it wont let me submit a link to another website, but basically go to dailymotion or googlevideo and type in sub 2 hour marathon an american record

  • El Guerroj would have won this race, possibly, however, he would not have beaten Kenenisa last Olympics. Not when Kenenisa employed a blistering pace for 3000m in a 5000m race.

  • @lamrof el guerrouj would have to start kicking much earilier though

  • and the guy from quatar is like...oh man...im tired ha..its funny sweet

  • damn... lagat almost had it... oh well... teg did very well i thought he was going to sprint to the front and go all out... just a little more work... GO USA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...and bekele...cause his a beast

  • Bekele does it yet again!!!! amazing!

  • that was a fun finish to watch, and great to see Teg up in the mix. Many great things to come from the Wisconsin crew in the future!

  • Dude the difference is not dropping at all. This was a slow race and teg got dropped completely with 200m to go. Solinsky fell off at the back of the pack with 400m to go.

  • Why don't people teach these announcer how to pronounce names correctly. Bikili is not correct. Also address Ethiopian by first names or use both first and Father names.

  • Look at that speed. Incredible.

Bekele ran the last 1,600 in 3:58.3.

Crazy man, 53.XX for the last 400.

The difference between the Top American distance runners and the Top African distance runners are slowly dropping.

Teg finished within 2 seconds of Bekele, Solinsky was in there.

It's time for an American to do some damage on the world stage. Teg is going for sub-13:00 in his next race and we as a country need another sub 13:00 runner.

    Go Teg!!!!!

  • Well done!!!!

  • Lagat is the man. He's an incredible runner.

  • and your name says XCrunner, you are here to admire Lagat? Hahaha the irony is chocking.

  • Why are you so angry? I don't even know what we are talking about. What did I say? Do you have PMS or something? Take some water girl.

  • Y r u admiring Lagat, what has he won compared to kenenisa??? Just fuck off if u don't like Bekele!

  • The man with the best stamina has the most feared kick. Tell me what chance you have to beat him?

  • Anbesa

  • GREAT RACE!!

BEKELE DEMONSTRATED that he is a GREAT CHAMPION.

  • This is just like the lagat vs. el guerrouj final with 50m to go.

  • lagat is the best ever

  • Lagat is crap compared to kenenisa.

  • Slap that Spanish 1500m runner who pushed Gelete Bulka while you are in Spain please.

  • Kenenisa Rules !!!!!

  • the hard man

  • Bring back El'G and Bekele takes silver in this race.

  • Men versus the Machine. Bekele is half man half machine.

  • Im half ethiopian, and im so damn proud of being from ethiop when i see Bekele xD

  • What a great race ! You can't beat Kenenisa.

  • Comment removed

  • yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa., anbesa kenenisa simply the greatest event better that haile ., for me anyways

  • This is amazing to me. Bekele was daring them the way he left of tor the kickers. Come get the fruit if you dare I will lower the branch. Wow, bring it fast, bring slow, i will still beat you.

Good freaking God Kenenisa is GOAT.

  • Legend. Legend. Anbessa. Can't have enough of Kenenisa.
