For me, this tune by Charles Mingus is defined by it's distinctive chord progressions. There is a somwhat jumpy, discontinuous structure embedded in the chord changes that gives the song its signature sound. I thought this post was a fairly good demonstration how minor changes in the chord structure can give a song a very different feel. Most of the chords have not been changed, just re-voiced to give a more continuous flow between the chord changes with a slightly modal orientation.
It's easiest to learn this tune's chord changes in six groups of four chords each. The original chords can be found in The Real Book Vol I.
I used a simple quantized bass and a one measure drum loop in GarageBand to serve as a metronome. It's a minimal backtrack. I think I was too loose with the time, and would do that part of it differently if I record it again.
Lot2Learn did the digital keys for me. Thanks Lot2Learn! http://www.youtube.com/user/Lot2learn If you haven't visited his channel, check out what you're missing!

Hello Everyone. I received a number of questions about the Misty video I recently put up. I used a few voicings and chords that were different than what is normally found on the chart. In this video, I try to share my approach to this tune in an understandable way. If you find something in this video worth incorporating into your own playing, it's free for the taking and I would consider it a compliment. I hope you find it helpful.
Special thanks to Lot2Learn for adding the digital keys to this video. His master level jazz chops are not to be missed. Check out his YT channel at http://www.youtube.com/user/lot2learn

'Spain' (Chick Corea) - jazz piano lesson. I did this about 7 years ago, and it has been kicking around the web since then. I recorded the bass and drum tracks first, and improvised the piano part later. I tried another method of annotating, using a 'spotlight' effect to highlight the section of music being referred to in the text. Again, the audio on this video has been spoilt - on the first solo section, there is severe 'clipping' that causes distortion at the loudest levels. And when the bass and drums enter there is a curious loud / soft 'pumping' in the volume levels. It is worse when using the 'High quality' option http://youtube.com/watch?v=EsBsq0Qeeu... and you need this to see the notes and annotations clearly. The solution is to go to my web site http://www.bushgrafts.com and download an excellent quality video from there - and the 'backing track' I did - bass and drums - to play along with (they are free!)
