Section 23 The IT King

HM is devoted to the deep and serious study of information technology as it pertains to many different aspect of the Thai culture and society. He is a firm advocate of researching and developing IT hardware and software to apply computer technology to benefit the Thai people in every venue possible.

HM has studied computer technology to the extent that he has created a data base for personal use. He successfully designed several unique Thai fonts for presentation and printing.

He installed an IT communication support network to record and organize many and intricate functions of his royal duties.

On a lighter note the people of Thailand have been overjoyed to be the recipients of His Majestys personally illustrated New Year e-card utilizing his personally created Thai fonts to wish everyone a Happy New Year.

His Majesty also uses the computer in composing music to optimize the melding of notes and lyrics as well as fine tuning the completed works for debut.

His Majesty has set himself to the challenging task of designing fonts of other alphabets such as Sanskrit. He has been studying various methods of screen presentation for the Devanagari alphabets which descended from the Bhrami alphabet of the Hindu culture and religion. He is also extremely interested in developing new software and programs to further this idea.

His Majestys interest in IT and determination to develop his country by keeping pace with the constantly advancing world symbolically opens a vista of information knowledge for the benefit and happiness of the Thai people as a whole.

Section 22 Dam, Levee and Tributaries of Life

His Majesty is extremely concerned and interested in the conservation and management of the Kingdoms water resources. This has been demonstrated on multiple occasions as His

Majesty has visited the various regions of Thailand. In each region, with their varying terrain,

he has observed the land, the water resources and the interactions of the people living there and the fundamental resources. He then advises the authorities concerned of the best methods of managing the areas resources as well as advising the local residents how best to integrate their basic life style into the available environment. As a result of His Majestys concern for the wellbeing of his people there is now a profusion of dams, levees, dykes, the tributaries of life for the Thai people.

Some of the dams have been named after His Majestys titles such as Bhumibol Dam. Some are names bestowed upon them by His Majesty, such as Ratchaprapa meaning the Brilliance of the Reign. The Khun Dan Prakarnchol Dam memorializing the heroes of Thailand past. Some of the dams come from His Majestys own support projects. Two of them being the Mae Ngud Sombunchol Dam and the Pa-sak Cholsit Dam.

Among the many benefits derived from these royal water management projects, apart from the hydroelectric power production, are providing reservoirs above the dams that allow the availability of adequate water for agricultural purposes during the dry portion of the year. During the rainy season they act as repositories for excess water that could cause flooding. The large bodies of water also sustain the local fishery industry.

As an added bonus these areas have become very popular with both and foreign and local tourists which has resulted in an economic stimulus for these regions. The Thai people have been blessed by these many benefits because of His Majestys foresight in developing these water management and conservation support projects.

19 His Majestys Support for the Tsunami Survivors

On the 26th December 2547 a Tsunami took peoples lives and property in six provinces along the coast of the Andaman Sea.

While the flood from the ocean left tear marks on the Thai peoples cheeks, the torrent of support provided by the members of the royal familys help wash away those tears. His Majesty was a pillar of strength foe his shaken and frightened subjects.

His Majestys personal funds and donations in his name flowed immediately to those experiencing the devastation and horror brought by the Tsunami. Children orphaned in the catastrophe were immediately accepted into His Majestys patronage and protection under the Raj Pracha Nukul Foundation where they will be cared for and educated to the highest level possible.

Unfortunately, even in times of this natural disaster, conflicts occurred. His Majesty graciously gave a speech for the Thai people encouraging them to work in unity and solve problems together. Love in harmony was that new years message to his subjects.

In a reign of over sixty years the Thai people known in their hearts that His Majesty the King watching over them with love and care. Whenever they were in trouble his kindness flows like drops of magic water extinguishing the fire in the heart of their suffering.

Section 18 The Monkey Cheeks Project (Kaem Ling)

His Majesty is an extremely perceptive observer of nature and he is highly skilled in adapting his observation to developing new ideas that solve many problems.

On the 14th of November, during the heavy floods throughout the country, His Majesty advised those concerned in solving the problem that the Monkey Cheeks Project provides the solution to the flooding problem in the Bangkok Metropolis.

His Majesty elaborated that If we hand a banana to a monkey it will quickly peel the banana and eat it. It then stores the banana in its cheeks which has the capacity to hold a whole hand of bananas. The monkey will slowly chew and swallow the bits of banana when it wants to. The example of storing the bananas in the cheeks is an example of how we should drain the stagnant flooded waters on the east and west of the Chao Phraya river.

The Monkey Cheeks project is a water organization system for the flooding season to prevent as well as reduce flooding in the lower Chao Phraya river by draining the water ways such as ditches and canals (or klongs) into small reservoirs. This is similar to the monkey holding the banana bits in its cheeks. Water is drained into the sea when the sea water level reduces.

The Monkey Cheeks project is one that relies on nature to solve problem in the flood prone areas. It demonstrates His Majesty the Kings acute awareness of how nature works.

National Sports Day, December 16th, is an important day for the Thai people as it was the day Thailand was honoured to host the 4th Laem Thong Games in 2510. On the very same day the Thai people were proudly cheering His Majesty the King as a member of the Thai national sailing team.

Throughout the race His Majesty the King performed his duties in the same manner as any other sportsmen. To the nations extreme pleasure and pride on the 16th of December 2510 the Thai peoples Sporting Monarch stood on the winners podium to receive the gold medal. This is the first time in sporting history where a monarch entered an international sporting event and won a gold medal.

His Majestys sporting skills are not limited to sailing. He is interested in many other sports in which he studies and practices until he becomes a model for the following generations.
