This is a training and employment program at the Youth UpRising community center in East Oakland, CA.

This program is designed to teach young people how to develop a critical eye towards the media they consume on a daily basis and learn how to use new technologies to produce their own media, with their own voice, their own messages, through diverse forms of creative self-expression.

Students learn professional photography, audio/video production and web content creation in order to become youth multimedia producers.

YU Media-LP is also offering the YU Cypher FREE class taught at Youth UpRising every semester.

This program was created by Yoram Savion and Kash Gaines. Yoram is a graduate of UC Berkeley in "New Media, Art and Social Change". He is currently working full time at Youth UpRising as a media arts instructor leading the YU Media-LP program and teaching the YU Cypher class. Yoram is a journalist, artist and educator. Current projects include producing youth-led multimedia stories for the Oakland Tribune and Alameda County Behavioral Health Services website.

Kash Gaines is a student at CSU East Bay. Kash was a student in the YU Media-LP program Summer 2007. Due to his amazing talent and commitment to the work, he was hired to work part time at Youth UpRising as a media arts assistant instructor. He is now moving on to teach at other schools and organizations. Kash is a dancer, poet and multimedia producer. Current projects include photography collage experiments, music videos and TURF dancing videos.

Yoram and Kash led a team of youth media producers and dancers to create the "RAW TURF" photo/video mural about TURF dancing currently on display at the Oakland Museum of California as part of the Cool Remixed exhibit May 17th - August 17th 2008.
