videoconferencecall
VC3 is a project researching and developing the structural and technical requirements needed to create a large-scale piece of participative choreography created via the Internet web cam network and WAP phones and incorporating it with two test days of live dance events held at Lanternhouse International.
For the research, choreographer Jeanie McCaghren, working in collaboration with digital artists Folly will hold two test events.
We want to ask for people who are confident with their computers and who have web cams to be part of our research. The requirement is for you to download free the web cam video conferencing software on www.ooVoo.com and also on www.skype.com on to your computer and send both of your user names to vccc3@live.com. Then choose one of three times on the test event days that you could participate with us using your web cam. You will be invited into both an ooVoo chat room and a skype chat room, you will mute the microphone on your ooVoo account so we can have clear audio on skype. Your web cam image will then be projected onto a screen with other web cam users (think Brady Bunch opening credits) which will be shown to a group of live participants. Another camera will be recording all of the webcams and projecting them onto a screen so you can view your projected web cam image amongst the live participants.
If you decide to be part of our research you will be asked to participate in a very simple online dance created by the choreographer who then plays the part of a dance caller.
She will invite the web cam participants and the live participants to interact with each other in a combination of fun dance moves, and challenging and clever improvisation movement games.
VC3
VC3 for live participants works in three ways.
1. Participating in a free dance workshop then dancing and interacting with web cam users.
2. Friends3 Invite a live friend and a virtual friend to our event and have fun dancing and sharing a unique memory with both of them.
3. A private web cam dance booth. This is for people who like the idea of being part of the event and who do not own a web cam. Costumes and various disguises will be on hand for you to BUST THAT MOVE incognito!!!
VC3
VC3 for WAP phone users
This part of the Research and Development will take part on the second test event.
We will be looking for people who have phones in which they can receive and send video. An invitational video will be sent to your phone that will give you some moves to inspire. You then create a mobile video of yourself dancing in a unique location and then send it to us and as many friends as possible.
You can also come to the January test events and use your phone to make a one of a kind dance film.
There are other options we will want to explore with WAP phone users including trying to upload live video WAP phones calls onto the projection screen.
Supported by Arts Council England
During all of the test events we will be discovering new solutions to live web cam video conferencing and making interesting connections with people from all walks of life. This project is not geared towards dancers but they are welcome to participate.
