Two Star Spark is a San Francisco-based rock band. Hesitant to define the sound they fit into, but forced to when asked, members describe it as garage rock with an electro-pop edge to it.

History

Two Star Spark formed after the dissolution of iY, a cover band. Charlie Kaupp, the then bassist and half-time singer for iY, started a side project with iYs backup drummer, Elliot Jordan in order to explore the possibility of writing original music. Because a duo with just bass and drums was not to their liking, Charlie started playing guitar instead of bass. Once the two had established the beginnings of a sound and wrote a few solid songs, they started looking to fill the lineup. After a few trials with guitarists, keyboardists, and bassists, they finally found a match with Cathy Lenz on the bass. Cathy joined, and the three-piece began practicing as a band and playing occasional shows.

The three-piece played together at a few local shows and recorded some demo material, but as they reached their stride, Cathy ended up leaving to pursue other interests. So, the group was back to just Charlie and Elliot, left to search for a third again. After some craigslist searching, they met with Philippe Bergeron in June of 2008. After a couple of practices, it was clear that Phil was a great fit, so the group was complete again, and ready to bring their sound to San Francisco and beyond.

Members

Charlie Kaupp has played bass for a number of musical outfits, including Santa Cruz pop punk band Statutory Dan and San Francisco cover band iY. He only started singing on a few songs with iY, but after finding that to be the role he enjoyed the most, he began singing lead and playing rhythm guitar for Two Star Spark. He comes from a classical and blues piano background during childhood, and is self-taught on the bass and guitar. He considers himself a guitar owner, not a guitar player.

Elliot Jordan started playing the piano as a wee lad, but later decided banging on the drums was more to his liking. Now he does both, and blends a little bit of computer wizardry into the mix for good measure. After his membership in several bands of varying virtuosity, hes pushing Two Star Spark into the SF music scene with renewed vigor.

Phil Bergeron is the most recent addition to the band. He started playing bass as a kid in the Great White North. He then moved back to the Bay Area where he played in a few bands, ever expanding his range of musical influences. He eventually met Charlie and Elliot, and they're keeping the rockin' alive since.
