Anaphora members Alicia Poot, Cory Tiffin, Aurelien Pederzoli, Maria Ritzenthaler, Jocelyn Butler and Darren Bartolo give the World Premiere of Olivia Blocks "Stupid Afternoon" in Chicago on April 27, 2009. The performance was held at the Chopin Theatre.

Block is a prominent local sound artist and an up-and-comer on the experimental music scene. Typically an improviser, Stupid Afternoon is one of few of Ms. Block's notated works. The piece is a sound experiment and as yet a work in progress.

This is a short clip from the new 2008 documentary by Igor Mayboroda titled "Rerberg and Tarkovsky: The Reverse Side of 'Stalker'". The 140 mins. documentary focuses not only on "talking heads" (very interesting ones, incidentally) but tries to show the inner world and the artistic background of Georgi Rerberg, the cameraman that photographed Tarkovsky's "Mirror" and the first version of "Stalker".

This documentary has been criticised for being "anti-Tarkovsky" but I disagree: in my opinion it merely tries to show how important Rerberg's contributions were. This in no way takes anything away from Tarkovsky. Nobody - for example - would say praising Nykvist diminished Bergman in any way.

In this clip we are shown Isfara where the original "Stalker" was to be shot. An earthquake in the area prevented the crew from working there.

This is an attempt at reconstructing the scene Orson Welles cut from "The Trial" (" Le procès") the day before its Paris premiere. It seems only the image element still exists, with one bit of the dialogue surviving in the film's trailer. You'll hear it in the clip beginning at 2:07. The full text of the dialogue can be found in Welles' original script. I'm using the Annotations feature for subtitling the dialogue, so make sure it's turned on.

What I did here is combine the three sources:

The actual dialogue _as filmed_ is not available anywhere to my knowledge.

Fortunately, the filmed scene follows the original screenplay closely and in several cases it's possible to lip-read enough to get one's bearings quite accurately.

The scene follows Joseph K's meeting his cousin Irmie (we can hear her in the first scene of the clip which is included in the finished film), and it precedes K's return visit to the Advocate during which he meets Bloch for the first time.

Finally, the video taken from the Studio Canal DVD is superb and my compression of it looks superb but the upload looks crappy. I used H.264 2-pass. Some of the videos on YouTube look great, even in the non-high-quality mode. How is it done? Is Sorenson 3 any better? Any ideas?
