Wall Street Blues -- from 4/8/08
Last week, the Labor Department announced that the nation's unemployment rate had risen for the third month in a row. And by most accounts, the credit crisis on Wall Street won't be over anytime soon. What does this mean for New York City? And as the economy sours, why do real estate prices in Manhattan continue to climb?
Rafael Pi Roman interviews Greg David, the editor of Crain's New York Business, about how the latest job numbers and the credit crisis are affecting the city's economy. We'll also hear what New Yorkers have to say about the city's real estate market.

On March 31st, the New York City Council voted in favor of congestion pricing, a plan that would mean that some drivers will have to pay $8 dollars to drive into midtown and lower Manhattan. The plan now goes on to the New York State legislature for final approval. We look at the council vote, the details of the plan, and show host Rafael Pi Roman sits down with Gail Robinson, editor in chief of Gotham Gazette, who has been reporting on the issue.

CARRIER, Premiering Sunday-Thursday, April 27-May 1, 9-11 p.m. ET on Thirteen/WNET New York http://www.thirteen.org/carrier
CARRIER is an edge-of-your-seat, reality drama and a once-in-a-lifetime total immersion in the high-stakes world of a nuclear aircraft carrier. CARRIER follows a core group of film participants aboard the USS Nimitz, from the admiral of the strike group to the fighter pilots to the youngest sailors, as they navigate personal conflicts around their jobs, families, faith, patriotism, love, the rites of passage and the war on terror.
The USS Nimitz is 24 stories high, three football fields long and carries more than 5,000 Navy personnel and 85 military aircraft. Filmed from May to November 2005, nearly 2,000 hours of high-definition video were captured aboard the ship during a full six-month deployment to the Persian Gulf, of which three months were spent in combat in support of the ground troops. For the first time, a television series takes a raw and personal look at the Navy's role in this controversial war.

WLIW New York's VISIONS series embarks on an aerial pilgrimage to the world's only Jewish state -- home to approximately 7.2 million and the Holy Land of Christianity, Islam and Judaism. Set to regional music and informative narration, stunning aerial and ground HD footage showcases Israel in all its diverse glory in honor of the State's 60th anniversary. From bustling Tel Aviv to the somber Dead Sea, VISIONS flies over where Jewish pioneers made the desert bloom; where Egyptians, Greeks and Romans built outposts to their empires; and where Jesus Christ performed miracles. Witness the religious life and landmarks of Old Jerusalem including the Temple Mount, Via Dolorosa and moving Holocaust Memorial at Yad Vashem, plus secular delights like the resort city of Eilat on the Red Sea, the marvelous beaches of the Mediterranean Coast, and Israel's only ski resort atop Mount Hermon.

NEW YORK VOICES Original Airdate 5/6/2008
Parking on the street is one of the least pleasant aspects of living in New York, and it's not even a fair sport: 142,000 drivers with special permits can occupy parking spaces where most of us would get a ticket. Depending on who you ask, these permits are either necessary for city government to function efficiently, or a scourge on our neighborhoods clogging up the streets and making it difficult to do business.
