The Roemans : Tommy Roe's backing band in the mid 60's

What other Florida Garage Band of the 1960's can match their experience of having toured America from Florida through the Dakotas, of having thrilled audiences throughout England, Scotland, and Wales, of having shared the spotlight and the applause with such stars as Tommy Roe, the Beach Boys, Cilla Black, Peter and Gordon, the Animals, the Rolling Stones, P.J. Provy, Roy Orbison, Tom Jones, Manfred Mann, Brenda Lee, Dell Shannon, Jay and the Americans, the Fourmost, the Remo 4, Tommy Quickly, Sounds Incorporated, and more?

The Roemans band memebers included: Bertie Higgins, Bo Glover, Ronnie Swartzkopf,
Lanny Langford, and Joe Pappalardo. In 1966, Berry Oakley replaced Joe Pappalardo when Joe was drafted.

The band split in 1968 and Barry played with a few other Florida bands before joining The Allman Brothers Band.

Bertie Higgins went home, put down his drum sticks, picked up a guitar, and a pencil to write several songs. Bertie Higgins is best known for his hit song Key Largo.

Thanks for the videos. Does anyone have one of their cover of Goldfinger? Everytime I saw them they started off with the instrumental version of Goldfinger, it was killer with Berry on bass.

Thanks for a great site. I was a fan of the Roemans and I'm from Dublin, Georgia, where they played often at the national guard armory. I spent many happy hours learing the music craft by trying to emulate the best, i.e., the Roemans, the Bushmen and the Candymen. I've already sent this valuable link to a couple of other aging musician friends of mine. A couple of us still play weekend gigs. Just can't seem to get it out of our system.
