Food Fight touristpi... - 4,294,404 views - 1 year ago
An abridged history of American-centric warfare, from WWII to present day, told through the foods of the countries in conflict.

For a breakdown of the actual battles portrayed in the film, visit:
http://www.touristpictures.com /foodfight/index.htm

For the official cheat sheet (breakdown of the foodstuffs), visit:
http://www.touristpictures.com /foodfight/cheat.htm

Now, to answer some FAQs...
- The food in this film was consumed either by myself or my dog after shooting. None of the cast went to waste.
- The software used was photoshop and after effects.
- The film took me 3 months to do.
- Although it seems like stop motion, most of it was stop motion created within After effects, using keyframe animation. I am basically moving the food around within the the program, frame by frame, which is the same as traditional stop motion, only it's digital.

Dining Room Table Reviews - Fujitsu LifeBook U810 UMPC TheCanadi... - 13,103 views - 1 year ago
Review of the Fujitsu LifeBook U810 UMPC from my dining room table.

An update: I've dumped Windows Vista and installed Windows XP instead. The U810 does appear to work a little faster now, but not by much. The big difference however is the more than 5 GB of hard drive space I've managed to recover! On a 40 GB drive, that's a huge chunk of space!

The biggest issue when installing Windows XP will be the installation of the drivers. You must first install every Windows Update available including the .NET components BEFORE installing ANY of the Fujitsu drivers. Install the chipset and system extension drivers before installing the tablet and mouse drivers, otherwise you may end up with an inverted mouse.

LATEST NEWS: The full review of the 900HA, the successor of the 900, can be found at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v =ASi_LvtvPAM .

============================== ===========

Review of the Asus EEE PC 900 mini-notebook from my dining room table.

The Ubuntu-EEE screenshots you see in the video are actually from the Ubuntu-EEE Live CD. I did install and thoroughly test Ubuntu-EEE for my review, but had already installed Windows 2000 when I realized I had completely forgotten to record any screenshots of the Ubuntu installation.

I can be such a n00b sometimes... :)

To install Windows 2000, you'll have to create a new installation disc with the nLite utility available at http://www.nliteos.com . You'll need to include the latest Windows 2000 Service Pack and the drivers from the EEE PC 900's Windows XP driver disc, otherwise the Windows 2000 installation will fail to start.

One of the best tweaks you can perform under Windows is to move the swap file from the primary to the secondary solid-state drive. You'll have more room for your applications, and there will be fewer read/write accesses to the primary drive.

A correction. One of the sample clips was mistakenly credited as "The Next Great Canadian Prime Minister. The title is actually "Canada's Next Great Prime Minister", which you can find at http://www.cbc.ca/nextprimemin ister .

Camcorder Test - Riopelle Sculpture - Canon HF200 - Nighttime Tests TheCanadi... - 406 views - 2 weeks ago
Nighttime tests.

This isn't a torture test! This is a Guantanamo Waterboarding test!

Source format: 1920 x 1080 60i, 30p and 24p (no 3:2 reverse pull-down applied)
Project deinterlacing setting: Interpolated Fields
Rendering format: 1920 x 1080 29.97 Hz Progressive
Video codec: XviD Quantizer 4.00 HDTV profile

The Canon received a lot of complaints about its low light deficiencies in "P" mode. Not only is there a lot of noise in the image, the shutter speed drops below 1/30, causing the video to look like a slide show.

But if you take the time to experiment with the camcorder's settings, you WILL find at least one setting that will work in your darkened environment. It's all a matter of experimentation.

Try alternating between the 1/30 or 1/24 shutter speed in the Cinema mode while recording in 30p or 24p. That combination appears to deliver the most consistent results in low light, with the Cinema Mode's weak contrast and brightness levels easily adjustable in most non-linear editing (NLE) software packages.

The camcorder performed exceptionally well when photographing the fountain's flames, which is where the automatic controls of most camcorders become totally confused. On top of successfully maintaining the proper color balance, the camcorder's auto-focus managed to maintain proper focus on the dancing flames and shimmering water most of the time. Even when the camcorder did lose focus, it didn't lose it for very long.

The Sanyo is a complete disaster at night. That white blob at the intersection is from the camcorder, and is not a rendering error. And watch as the fountain's flames totally confuse the camcorder to the point of absurdity.
