Government of Sri Lanka knows that if a Democratic Referendum happens the Tamils will form a new country and this is why they do not allow such a Referendum to take place.

Tigers respond on pluralism and democracy

Responding on Democracy the Tigers said they were "more committed to the democratic principles" than the GoSL and challenged the GoSL to repeal the sixth amendment to the SL constitution as a token of its commitment to democracy and pluralism. The LTTE also challenged the GoSL to remove its armed forces from the Tamil homeland and allow the holding of a referendum under international supervision to ascertain the aspirations of the people in the homeland.

* Sixth amendment - No political party shall have as one of its aims or objects the establishment of a separate State within the territory of Sri Lanka ( IT WAS BECAUSE OF THIS LAW AND SRI LANKAN STATE TERRORISM THAT THE TAMILS TOOK UP ARMS TO FIGHT FOR FREEDOM)

Å respondering på Demokrati Tiger sa at de «mer ble forpliktet til de demokratiske prinsippne» enn Gosl og utfordret Gosl til å kalle tilbake sjette endringen til SL konstitusjon som et tegn av dets forpliktelse til demokrati og pluralism. LTTE utfordret også Gosl til å fjerne detse bevæpnte krefter fra Tamil hjemland og til å tillate det holder av en referendum under internasjonalt overoppsyn til å konstatere aspirasjonene av folket i hjemlandet.
