Dawn Wells (Mary Ann) was reportedly touring with stage plays so she couldn't take part. Tina Louise (Ginger) was already trying to distance herself from the sitcom.

After the disappointing Brady Kids series, Gilligan creator Sherwood Schwartz insisted on being heavily involved with the series.
