Wie ein Schock traf die Nachricht vom Tod Michael Jacksons in der Nacht von Donnerstag auf Freitag viele Menschen. Der King of Pop war nach einem Herzinfarkt ins UCLA Medical Center Los Angeles eingeliefert worden und verstarb dort, nachdem die Ärzte über eine Stunde um sein Überleben gekämpft hatten (Michael Jackson tot nach Herzinfarkt).




In einem Atemzug mit dem Namen Michael Jackson fiel meist auch die Selbsttitulierung King of Pop. Der Einfluss von Michael Jackson auf die Hiphop Kultur ist ebenfalls unübersehbar. Zahllose Künstler nennen den King of Pop nach wie vor als eine ihrer größten Ikonen, Vorbilder oder Inspirationen. So ist es kaum verwunderlich, dass viele Rapper und Musiker schon wenige Stunden nach dem Tod von Michael Jackson ihrer Trauer und Anteilnahme Ausdruck verliehen - und erneut sind es die Social Networks wie Facebook oder der Microbloggingdienst Twitter über welchen die Statemtents zum Tod von Jacko in die Welt finden.
