The Los Angeles November The 15Th No On 8 Rally, A Day Of Unity

Dear Readers,

This last Saturday, November the 15th, 2008, at the downtown Los Angeles Civic Center Complex was a kick off for massive protests organized and coordinated from one end of the United States to the other, and indeed spilling over into Nine international countries as well. It was estimated, by the organizers that these rally's involved over three hundred cities and nine countries. It was also estimated, by unconfirmed sources, that the Los Angeles Rally was attended by over 12,000 supporters, however from my footage, I think that estimate may have been conservative to say the least. For as far as the eye could see, in all directions, was a mass of people, signs, chants, outfits, families, friends, gays and gay supporters, going off into the horizon beyond view.

It was magical, it was priceless, to see so many brave persons stand up for the civil liberties of an oppressed, and often mis understood minority. It made me PROUD, very PROUD, to be an American, and to be a Los Angelino.

Many people spoke, among them, Mayor Antonio Villiargosa, Esteemed Lesbian Organizer, Torrie Osborne, and many, many others. There words were inspiring, their presence, love, and support so very much needed and appreciated.

Normally, I write a very detailed analysis of these kinds of things, this time I will refrain from that. This time, I have tried to record, from a birds eye view, what it was actually like to be there, on this very special day. We start out in the subway, packed with protestors, then leaving the subway up the stairs, the teeming masses marching off to defend their liberties. I wander around a bit, focousing on this group, or person, or another one, to show the diversity of the crowd. I end with some short clips of some of the speeches. I will make no commentary, I will let you decide for yourselves, if the footage speaks for itself.

I have added in some light background music, low volume, so it will not obscure the speeches and sounds of the crowd. It is a Celtic bagpipe rendition of "Scotland The Brave", quite old, and copyright expired. I violate no copyrights by including this piece as background music to this production.
