About Me:

Since its establishment as a nonprofit organization in 1993, Soli Deo Gloria, Inc., has sought to support the creation and performance of sacred classical music at the highest level, to the glory of God. Commissions for new sacred music from the world's leading composers are at the heart of Soli Deo Gloria's mission. In addition, the organization sponsors sacred music concerts and recordings around the world. American composer Paul Schoenfield was the first to receive a commission from Soli Deo Gloria. The commission resulted in an oratorio titled D'vorah, which is based on the Old Testament story of Deborah, judge and prophet of Israel. Soli Deo Gloria has since commissioned Guggenheim Fellowship winner George Arasimowicz, Chicago Symphony Orchestra Composer-in-Residence Augusta Read Thomas and Pulitzer Prize winner Christopher Rouse, among others. The organization's commissioned works have been performed by such ensembles as the Saarbrucken Radio Symphony Orchestra, L'Ensemble orchestral de Paris, the National Symphony Orchestra, the Indianapolis Children's Choir, the Princeton Symphony Orchestra, the Morgan State University Choir and the American Boychoir. Soli Deo Gloria's worldwide sponsorship of sacred music concerts began in 1996 in cooperation with the General Motors Corporation and the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra and Philharmonic Chorus for two performances of Brahms' Ein Deutsches Requiem. Translated into Chinese by composer Bright Sheng and presented in the Shanghai Center Theater, Brahms' Requiem was thus performed in China for the first time in the nation's history. Subsequent sponsorships have assisted concerts in Ukraine, Russia, Armenia, Costa Rica and America. Sacred music recordings sponsored by Soli Deo Gloria include Henryk Górecki's Miserere (1994 Elektra Nonesuch), Hector Berlioz' Te Deum (2001 EMI/Virgin Classics) and Johann Sebastian Bach's Mass in B Minor (2006 EMI/Virgin Classics).

Soli Deo Gloria takes its name from a Latin phrase that Bach inscribed on many of his compositions—to God alone be the glory.
