About Me:
As of September 30th, 2009 I will be serving a two year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Manchester New Hampshire Mission. As such, for obvious reasons, during my mission I will not be able to respond to personal messages, friend invites, etc.
At first I was going to leave up my videos and allow people to comment while I was gone, but after some thinking and advice from others I have decided that because I can't moderate the comments on my videos I will take that function off of my videos while I am on my mission. I don't want things to get out of hand while I am gone. But you will still be able to see the videos. When I get back I will once again allow people to comment.
*** End Note ***
Steve Smoot's the name; history and religious studies is the game.
I like researching Mormonism specifically and religion in general. I also like studying history, especially ancient Near Eastern and Mesoamerican history. I plan on pursuing a degree in Ancient Near Eastern Studies from BYU when I return from my mission to New Hampshire.
I love reading both fiction and non-fiction, although I prefer the latter. When I am not reading or writing, I like to hike, watch and/or make movies, and scuba dive whenever I have the chance.
Jesus Christ and Joseph Smith are the two greatest heros in my life. Hugh Nibley is another hero of mine.

"Our missionaries are going forth to different nations . . . the Standard of Truth has been erected; no unhallowed hand can stop the work from progressing; persecutions may rage, mobs may combine, armies may assemble, calumny may defame, but the truth of God will go forth boldly, nobly, and independent, till it has penetrated every continent, visited every clime, swept every country, and sounded in every ear, till the purposes of God shall be accomplished, and the Great Jehovah shall say the work is done." - Joseph Smith (History of the Church, 4:540)
