Remembering the splendour of Moha Nokor.
Like a rock the Khamer race is eternal.
Let us trust in the fate of Campuchea,
The empire which challenges the ages.

Songs rise up from the pagodas
To the glory of holy buddhistic faith.
Let us be faithful to our ancestors' belief.
Thus heaven will lavish its bounty
Towards the ancient Khmer country, the Moha Nokor.

No matter how you succeed
in pushing back time and oblivion

No matter what new knowledge
you may find circulating about the universe

No matter what exquisite perfections
the architecture of your civilizations may obtain

The jungle lush and green stealing carbon
pumping oxygen comes back for Angkor Wat's splendor

Until the sun in her omnivorous beneficence and warmth,
in her perpetual greed for growth, for incineration swallows up the earth.


THE ANGKOR A POEM

angkor wat, angkor thom, bayon
all these thousand year old temples
leave me breathless
the sweat of their builders
that melted down mighty stones
into voluptuous apsaras,
mysterious ramayana bas reliefs
some of which hide faces of builders
upright lions that would trounce
the chinese version in a match,
mystical giant statues that carry smile
more puzzling than mona lisa
and those steep smart flight of stairs
made for courageous khmer kings
to sanctuaries of gods and goddesses
sweep us off our feet
with their ingratiating originality
untainted by today's disturbances
except the power of art and kings
time and tide have brought the
visions of the ancient builders
clearer into sight, stamped the veracity
of their skills onto our soul
Lol, these ancient builders have craved
an angkor onto my heart!
